Well I 'saw' it!!

Where shall I begin???? Well for starters I didnt think it was scary in the SLIGHTEST... seriously...where were the suspense and the jumps and the what not? The only time I jumped was when the black dude came up to one of the girls (cant remember which)

I wanted to stab the beefy dude in the neck from the word go!

Oh and I didnt understand WHY obi died so quickly.

I did NOT LIKE the needle scene...in fact there were way too many needles in the whole thing for my liking!! I also DID NOT LIKE the bit with the brunette woman and the wrist...eeep! It was the sound of the metal...eurgh!

I figured out most of it by about an hour in... (It was totally given away all the way through) and thought there still might be a chance I'd get away without seeing the pig head... but OH NO!! I wasnt pleased about that!

Oh and when did amanda get fit? whats that about?!

What about the guy that had to cut the key out from behind his eye?? EEWWWWWWW!!! The worst bit I think :(

VisualFallacy
21-04-2006, 08:14
I couldnt believe it when he pushed her in either!! Ross who was with me and Rache was all "I'd be able to do that easy peasy.... why are people scared of a needle pit?" me and rache went off on one and then remembered that he's a diabetic and injects himself every day!!

I didnt even think the eye bit was that bad... you didnt really see that much!! All the gory bits happened too quickly.

Well, I really really enjoyed it. As a huge "Silent Hill" fan : I think that they did the game(s) justice. You'll notice so many details from the first game!!

It starts off a little wonky but once it got going : I was riveted. Wouldn't change anything, apart from the music in some places. Akira Yamaoka's work is used throughout. :D They used the perfect song for the closing credits! It was bliss - hearing it blasting in the cinema.

Now I just need to try and get the boyfriend to come and see it with me. He doesn't like the sound of it : he thinks that it sounds too scary. The last twenty minutes were minging but that was about it...

I haven't seen it yet, but the ending (Which you've just ruined.....just kidding I was expecting that type of thing anyway)

In the games, at the end you are meant to make up your own mind as to whats happened (There are several different endings in each game)

but without seeing the film myself I can't really comment on it, just to say it'll be whatever you believe to be true. they were dead when they got to silent hill, or they all live happily ever after.............

I thought the same, there was no suspense... you didnt have time to bond with the police man cuz you didnt know anything about his background... or any of the characters backgrounds really...so you didnt care whether he died or not... I didnt even care if his son died! It was really poor... not scary in the slightest. I REALLY liked the first one, as a general movie it wasnt all that but it had things in it that scare the shit out of me so thats why I loved it... puppets... people creeping around wearing masks... ew! I cant believe it was such a let down! I shouldnt have hyped it up so much in my head.

Watched Ed Wood last night. I'd seen it before, but just bought the DVD in one of those 3 for £10 deals the shops do. Love it, especially Bela, Bunny, Cresswell, Vampira and Ed's other assorted friends. And I love when Sarah Jessica parker's character says ’Do I really have a face like a horse?‘

Some of the extras are good too - there's one, appropriately enough for the GMB, called ‘The Theremin’, 'cause they used one for a lot of the cool music soundtrack in the film. Their one was a bit less phallic than Alison's though!

I ask ya what's the point of a theremin if it's not phallic, and not attatched to our lovely Ms Goldfrapp???? now I have an image of Alison theremin in hand being slightly fruity....... no...... wait..... that's just the end of Yes Sir on Wonderful Electric DVD.......hehehehe :)

The Alibi - Steve Coogan and Rebecca Romijn Stamos, hmmmm odd film, but gets better, quite watchable......but not brilliant....so don't expect much! and it's quite predictable....but eh! what film isn't these days?

WAR OF THE WORLDS - Is there a scene in this film that doesn'thave Tom Cruise in? but it's O................K not amazing or anything, in parts quite boring, but I do like the new Tripods (Not as scary as I remember them being though!)

Almost Famous - I remember seeing this at the pictures, me and My mate went up to see something else, but it was delayed till the following week, so we both didn't want to leave without seeing a film, so the only one we hadn't seen was this......and I have to say we were pleasantly suprised, it's a great film, not in your face like so many other's, and Jason Lee (Mallrats, My Name Is Earl) is funny as well as the rest of the cast, plus Kate Hudson mmmmmmmmmm.....think it was on ITV3 or 4 the other night)

Going to the cinema tonight but me and my boyf cant decide between Slither and Silent Hill. Which one would go better after a curry? Hmmmmmm....

MaD dOctoR
01-05-2006, 17:13
Saw Silent Hill today finally, And I'm so glad I did

Well lets start off by saying that I was near to killing the people at the back of the cinema (The Chav Type of course) who just seem to go to the cinema to make other people angry......but after a swift turn and a "Shut The Fuck Up Or I'll Kill You" Look all was good......again.

:PLEASE DON'T READ: If You Haven't Seen It Yet....I'll try to not spoil it for you but just incase I say something. DON'T READ IT:

So to the Film, well all I can say is that they definately got the otherworld near to perfection, took me back to the first time I played SH on the PS1 and the first otherworld scene was great......if you played the first game you'll know what I mean! I do however feel that Alessa's speech could have been shorter (Or dare I say it, cut, as it wasn't needed....) as with the games, the film does not need to be explained in detail, it's your own feelings of what is going on, that counts! some people will get it.....others won't! And Pyramid Head was excellently brought to life on the Big Screen, I think Anna may need a new skin! that fucking Knife.....I'd love to see the size of the bread he butters with it. But I'm certain that there were things cut from the film, Plus all the way through I could see the orange cue dots (Or whatever they are called) probably a fault of the projector though!

Great Film! Go See it!

Saw the Criterion version of Alan Resnais' Night And Fog this past Saturday night.

I was first shown this film in High School (by Vela Gobel in her Media class, if memory serves). Saw it again in college. But seeing it again it amazed me just how brief the 'gory' bits were. Still this is one film that would be mandatory watching on my list of things to see. Not just because it makes an almost perfect brief on the Shoah; it is an almost perfectly formed bullet of fact, archive, and memoir (the writer, Jean Cayrol, was a survivour of the camps).

...and this you must know...

Heartlands

A british movie from 2002 that my mate got out of a bargin bin. I knew nothing about this film but it was really good.

It stars the excellent Michael Sheen (last playing Kenneth Williams and Tony Blair) and is the excellent Mark Addy (Full Monty). It's about a (sheltered) northen guy who runs newsagent and goes on a road trip (on a Honda 50cc :D) to Blackpool (The Las Vegas of the North) after his darts captain runs off with his wife! It's like Full Monty/Brassed off in some ways, i.e. funny and easy going, feel good, (er... some of same actors) ...BUT it's alot darker, has better Yorkshire accents (infact 'all rate' is proabably the catchphrase of the film) and a slightly more sureal atmosphere ...and it's better!! As a South Yorkshire bloke i'd think this film is a better than those other 2.

Has anyone else seen it???

You know what they did at Cinemasia? They had Bai serve dumplings before the movie (she and the movie were relatively unknown here). Actually Dumplings is my favorite :-)
The long version has more info on the husband, a VERY different ending, and more twists along the way that are not in the original. Honestly I prefer the ending of the short. But there is more character development in the 91 minute version.
I can make an MP4 version? It should be ready tomorrow.

That was in Amsterdam yeah. (I live there). Dumplings opened the festival so they flew Bai in. I actually met her, talked to her about her movies for well over 45 minutes (she took time for all her fans even though she was jetlagged and just flew in) and then she asked us out for a few drinks. Very nice woman! Very intelligent too. No really!

But dicks also fuck assholes: assholes that just want to shit on everything. Pussies may think they can deal with assholes their way. But the only thing that can fuck an asshole is a dick, with some balls. The problem with dicks is: they fuck too much or fuck when it isn't appropriate - and it takes a pussy to show them that. But sometimes, pussies can be so full of shit that they become assholes themselves... because pussies are an inch and half away from ass holes. It's got the kid from Third Rock From The Sun (Joseph Gordon Levitt) and the kid from Witness (Lukas Haas), both all grown up now in it, and Claire from Lost (Emilie De Ravin), and it's about a guy whose ex who he's still in love with goes missing and he tries to investigate why. It's really atmospheric, quite tragic in parts, but with a couple of really funny scenes too.

Land of the Dead - Zombies have a lot incommon with people fed up with their governments. I love a good zombie film. Especially imitating the sounds they make for days on end after seeing it. You should see the check-out girls stare when you do a grocery shopping zombie impersonation.

Hitchhikers Guide To The Galaxy - Stupendously funny.

I would say give it a miss. I had a friend down for the weekend and we went to the cinema because of the shit weather but I wish I'd stayed outside in the rain. I thought the story was absolute drivel and the acting is the standard of a low-budget soap. With trailers and everything it drags on for the best part of three hours and it was as if the cinema was a punishment cell.

And to our non-UK friends let me just say that despite what you see in this film, there are not really that many red telephone boxes and red pillar-boxes on the streets of London.

I wouldn't see that film because I instinctively pick holes in anything with a historical basis. I'd ruin it for everyone around to be honest so I'd be better off not seeing the end product. *rolls eyes*

Ryan Reynolds is superhardonalicious and wet and topless and in lovely pants in The Amityville Horror. A LOT. Not that good a movie but he is such eycandy in it that I honestly did not care about the rest of the movie in this case. On scene has him jump in the water topless and just in thin pyjama pants and then he comes out of the water and you want him to do you long and hard. Oops! Did I just type that out loud?

Last film I watched (on dvd just now) Wallace & Gromit and the curse of the where rabbit. Fun. I love 'em.

There's a scene where we get introduced to Ian McKellen's character and he's there with this china tea-pot and tea-cups, OK I know we like our tea but we have to have this bloody thing that because he's an Englishman he's got to be having a tea-party. Then he says to Tom Hanks knowingly, "Lemon?"

Lol I feel a bit guilty putting people off this movie, perhaps we need a bit of balance. If anyone did like it, please feel free to post, I'd be fascinated to hear from anyone who thinks it's good.

"The Da Vinci Code". I was dragged to it by my lovely mother...it was the biggest ordeal of my life...I thought that it would never end...
I went straight out of the screenroom : bought a ticket for "Silent Hill" and made it all better again...and yes, I was really the only person there. It was perfection. :)

Wow I haven't read one single positive review of DaVinci. Silent Hill was good? I was too scared playing the original game back in the PS1 days so I never finished it beyond one hour of play. Brrrrrrr! (I generally hate game-to-film stuff like Resident Evil, which sucks).

It would be amazing to have loads of featurettes and documentaries. Especially some of the rare stuff - "Lost Memories..." and whatnot.

an interview with the guy who plays PH, a new interview with Alira, loads and loads of stuff that was cut from the film (Could be on disc 2) and the DVD would be packaged in Leather (kinda like the Book of The Dead DVD)

"X-Men 3" and I don't exactly know how I feel about it. It just seemed to go by so quickly - as if they were rushing to get from bit to bit.

For some reason the show before us was running late. So, five minutes before ours was due to start : we went in and grabbed our seats - even though the credits were still rolling. Glad we did now since we got to see the thirty-odd seconds of film at the very end.

Apparently it's seven minutes worth of credits to wait through. :|

Went to see The Omen when it came out on the 6th and was really pleasantly surprised its actually quite a good remake. Being a big fan of the original I was prepared to go in there and sit through two hours of utter drivel as is the norm with this recent surge of horror rehashes. However the style of the film is very true to the 70s horror genre which i liked and the acting was spot on too. The one sullen expression the little boy who played Damien kept on his face through the entire movie did start to grate toward the end though.

Went to a preview of the new Pedro Almodóvar movie, Volver. Really good - a bit of a return to hsi older, more female-centred films, and it has Carmen Maura, who he hasn't worked with for years, in it. I was surprised how old she looks now though. Penélope Cruz is the lead, and I thought she was great. It's weird, I don't like her in Hollywood films, but in Spanish films I really like her. I guess it's easier to give a good performance in ytour first language.

Saw X-Men 3 the other day too - disappointing.

Gretchen Mol, the lead, does a good job playing Bettie, who retained her sunny and wholesome southern attitude amongst all the fetish photography and some of the traumas she went through, and it really evokes the 50s well - parts of it are in noir-ish black and white, and others in kitschy 50s technicolour. The recreations of the shoots are really funny.

I thought so, yeah. Quite indie in its cast and general feel, but likeably so and stylish. Gretchen Mol, the lead actress, is good. It's quite short (only 91 minutes), and although some of it seems to be a little shorthanded (she has a marriage that lasts all of two scenes), it's very watchable.

The original Solaris (bloody hell, that's a long film!!)

Not sure. It's beautiful to look at. Some of it was really good. It has more story than the new version, but i think that is also a bad thing. It's gets a bit confusing - it's no co-incidence it was called Russia's 2001.

The Soderbergh version is a much more concise film and gets your brain working faster and the Jeremy Davies character is a brilliant addition to the original.

With The Ring, I think the Solaris is a case where a re-make is justified (and better).

Went to see 'Thankyou For Smoking' last night. Enjoyed it.

Also noticed that nobody smoked once in the entire film, which was interesting.

That's odd; I had a similar experience when I went to see Bring Me The Head Of Alfredo Garcia

"Lost in Translation" (again)

Such a wonderfully subtle and restrained film.

A ships-that-pass-in-another-country story, yet handled with grace, flair and a wonderful patience that sits so well again the pace of the country where they are. Heartbraking through humour, yet still warm and fuzzy.
Bill Murray is bloody excellent and Scarlett Johanssen is remarkably assured at 18. The scene where they pass going to/from the pool is the entirety of awkward human emotion in about 90 seconds.

You won't see two people have an affair (yet not have one) with such an undercurrent of pain and guilt so well handled anywhere else. There's a moment where the two are lying on the bed fully clothed talking about where they are in their lives and Murray's hand moves about an inch or so and starts stroking her foot - it's the tiniest movement yet in the scheme of the scene feels almost like an act of unfaithfulness. Astonishingly beautiful.

If you've seen it, watch it again a second time (or more) - it's way better. When the two of them kiss and the Jesus and Mary Chain cuts in......phew, I'm so close to crying every time.

Very. Good. Film.

(It's launch night on the now free FilmFour - few ads, good picture quality and no DOG. Very promising.)

This has got to be one of my all time favorite films. Quite the cerebral flick. Everything is sooo wonderfully restrained, subtle, emotive without being cheesy and just beautiful. The cinematography is absolutely gorgeous. I love Scarlett, she's brilliant in this film. I can see a lot of myself in her character and most guys I talk too say the same about the Bill Murray character.

And a great soundtrack too!

Interstella 5555

For anyone who hasn't even heard of this i really reccomend it! It's the most original thing you've ever seen, combing fine anime by leiji matsumoto with the music from the discovery album by daft punk. It's all over the place on bittorrent sites...not that i am condoning it ...but you probably wouldn't buy it anyway.

Interstella 5555 is indeed love.

Last film I watched was Loaded Weapon 1, with a stupid grin on my face the whole time.

That's one I've been meaning to watch for a while, it's one of the "slip my mind whenever I'm looking for something to buy" kinda films, I have that with a lot of CD's too :D

I watched Hedwig and the Angry Inch yesterday, how I love that film. They played a song from it at a club the other night and everyone was singing along to it all but my friends had never ever heard of it so they wanted to know what it was.
