It tore my insides out the first time I watched it...I'll admit it : I was in tears at the end. That's probably why it's taken nearly two years for me to watch it again! :(
The only other film that had that sort of effect - maybe not having me in tears by the end - but definitely put me off seeing it for a while, would be "Audition". My friend gave it to me : telling me that it was a Japanese romantic film...so okay, I put it on and well...it pretty much left me traumatized. It was just a straight main-movie copy...if I'd seen the cover art, then I wouldn't have touched it. *whimpers*
haha that audition trick is a classic!!
romantic movie huh!?
i gotta try that on someone!! hehe

Heh heh. 'Audition' is pretty intense.
Not as bad as 'Requiem for a Dream' though. Crikey, that's like watching a nightmare.
Flight of the Phoenix the new one
i think i might watch requiem for a dream after that recommendation... ive had it on dvd for about a year and still havent got around to watching it..
...i feel like watching something fucked up

im not even sure, but tons of people say its great...
the back describes it as 4 people and their lifes when everything starts going wrong for them
should cheer me up!! lol
Watched Donnie Darko the other night.
I never get nightmares but i had this really lucid disturbing dream the night after I watched it. I dreamt that I was about to die and I knew as soon as I lay down i'd die and there would be no afterlife.
I felt really unsettled all the next day. The film didn't scare me at the time, but it made me think, and freaked out my subconscious, obviously.
No film has ever done that to me before. Even the exorcist didn't bother me that much.
I've still not seen that film yet. I remember the first time I watched The Blair Witch, I felt really freaked out afterwards. Only because I'd heard so much about it and couldn't work out whether the kids really were freaked out or whether they were putting it on. The scene right at the end when they get to that creepy house still gives me the eebie jeebies, think it's the unsteady camera, the screaming and shouting and not knowing what the hell is going on that does it to me.
I remember after I watched it for the first time, I felt a bit spooked walking past trees and thick foliage and swore never to go camping. Now when I watch it, it doesn't bother me at all.

Hear me out! It's actually quite good. I went into it expecting to hate it because I hated Snatch and this film looked like it had been cast by a 14 year old boy.
There are some dreadful moments but some incredible moments as well.
There's a lot more to it than your usual Brit gangster film. You won't come out of the film with all the answers but if you like that sort of thing you'll enjoy it.
On the other hand if you absolutely hate it I will certainly understand why! :p
I'm not sure it's my type of film to be honest. I haven't seen Snatch and I didn't enjoy Lock, Stock......although I thought Vinnie was quite good.
The critics have been so over the top with their slagging of the film (revolver) that more people will want to see it just to see what all the fuss is about. How bad can a film be?
I want to see it just because im curious.

I don't want to see it, Its sounds Shite!
A good film if you like British Crime Movies Is Layer Cake Directored by the same Bloke who Produced Lock Stock and Snatch. Layer Cake is so Much better. Plus its got Sienna Miller in it with Stocking Suspenders on even Better :D

Yeah ok it does sound shite, but i would go and see it just for the craic, so I could have my own opinion and not just regurgitate someone elses, and if I had nothing better to do.
Layer cake is good, saw it a while ago, don't remember the ins and outs of the plot but I thought it was impressive.

Hi the Best way is get a Teacher or if you know somebody who is very very good and won't teach you any bad habits. Just Learn Basic Cords and just play them over and over again you will find when you begin your fingers will become sore very quickly but you will overcome this with practice and your fingers become exercised. Practice everyday for about 30minutes or until you become Bored.
I never had any books but the best way is Just get a teacher to get hand on Lessons.
Hope that helps :)

Did you think exaactly the same thing I did when it finished:
"That was amazing. I never, ever want to watch that again"
The film has what I can only describe as a rhythm which gets faster and faster and each beat is like being hit over the head with a paving slab.
Also, how good is Marlon Wayans in it? Why doesn't he stick to proper acting instead of trite and tawdry comedies?
i really want to see it again actually...just not right away...
the ending is stunning, when it all starts falling apart and the cuts between characters become shorter and shorter...i was watching it just thinking wowww, so clever...
i loved ellen burstyn in it, his mum...broke my heart!! and i never realised but jennifer connellys stunning
im struggling through the dvd extras now, but my hearts not in it...

If you do watch it again do so with the commentary on it. Aranofsky points out loads of clever stuff that he did (as well as the obvious shorter cutting of scenes) in order to emphasise the downward spiral that the characters were on, the lighting, which side of the room stuff was filmed on, etc.
Yes, Jennifer Connelly is stunning is amazing in it - I guess she got a body double to do those scenes (which I couldn't believe I was watching) towards the end though! Incidentally what exactly were all those men gambling on when theywere chucking the money in. Something I can't help thinking!

Well i went out the other night with my sisters friend and we got caught in a 'not bothered about which film to watch' moment and as she fancied Pride and Predjudice. So I as i was indifferent we saw it.
Well how shocked I was. Now don't get me wrong, I enjoy a bit of costume drama and did enjoy the BBC version immensely (romantic at heart :) ). Infact that's the reason I was suspisious of a film so soon after a perfectly cast BBC version.
BUT I wasn't ready for the amazing cinematography. The film looked bloody amazing!! There are several shots that take your breath away on a big screen. It's funny with all these CGI graphics you forget period dramas can look great aswell Like those old 70's/80's Kubrick, Ken Russell, Lean, etc. period films this at times looks like an old painting. You could almost smell it, it as so realistically shot.
Also the Ball scenes are amazingly directed in some great one shot sequences and the acting top notch!! All this + Kiera and Rosmund.
God I need women to go and see it with me again !!! :) lol

"Requiem for a Dream" is one of my favourite films but I can only watch it now and again. There's something about the complete and utter way it quietly absorbs you and spits you out at the end.
Totally agree with Twisty about Ellen Burstyn though - such a heartbreaking descent. Oh, and that f*%king fridge.
I watched that film for the first time when going through a rather low period. I'd heard some of the Clint Mansell score, loved Pi and thought "What the hell, let's sink into a film to get away from things"
Really, really bad move !
A must see though - just have friends to hand afterwards !

I love that film - it is very chilling, even in the little moments like Pauline and Juliet encouraging Pauline's mum to have the last cake just before... well, you know what. In the first half at least there are some really funny parts too I think, especially some of Kate Winslet's lines in her plummy accent (‘We don't need your hundred pounds, so stick it up your bottom!’).
I saw an advance screening last night of the new Neil Jordan film, Breakfast On Pluto - excellent, and Cillian Murphy's amazing in the lead role.

i am watching CNBC these days it is a business chanel, i learned many things like for example their is managers who come and talk about their companies, so most of them has one aim promote their companies to get the biggest market share which is more consumers as different they are, for that they have to promote their image and their brand to do that you have to find a middleground between everything for example if you are selling Mp3 you have to have nice designs nice cloth in a manner that you can gain consumers from all age, kids and old people this is why it is not good to make mistakes in such a market where comptetion is severe..............
hope i did not bored you a lot with my business talk.

Yeah, I suppose. And the line of police questioning seemed designed to create false memory syndrome.
However, the Dad had a certain look about him, y'know, like Arsene Wenger does.:p
As for Jessie, I don't think he had too much to do with it. But then again I suppose the way the witnesses spoke it was as if they both did or didn't.

That was a great film, really raw and intense. I don't even usually like Julia Roberts, but even I had to admit she was good in it. When I saw it at the cinema, there was a couple in front of us who were obviously on a first date, and ended up walking out - it's hard to think of a worse film to see on a first date!
Last film I saw was Corpse Bride, which was fun. Not very long, and the sound was a little muffled on the songs, but otherwise good. There were a bunch of annoying kids in there though who spent the whole film running around and around, not watching the film. I felt like tripping them up.

I've just finished writing a mini-review of the film I finally just saw. It's the German film "Tattoo" and I thought I'd drop it, minus the screens, over here.
It's only skin deep: "Tattoo"
Being a huge fan of the darly inventive "Se7en" (sorry, force of habit) I approached the 2002 film "Tattoo" somewhat hesitantly. When things are described as "the best since...." or "for lovers of...." there's a high chance of it being bait to make an average film be more than it actually is.
Still, when the DVD is re-released for £5.99 (albeit without extras as such) there comes a time to bite the bullet, slap the money down and hope for the best. Sometimes you wish you'd had a little more faith and done the buying thing sooner. Luckily, this was one of them.
Firstly, sometimes subtitles put people off a movie but in a case like this they're a positive plus point. Being a German movie (which it is) the language suits the subject matter in the same way that the band Rammstein get a harder edge to their vocals. Nothing fits the seedy underbelly like that hard sound of the language. Not an indication on the country, more on the phonetics. Either way, within about 5 minutes you cease to even notice. Good films are like that.
Secondly, let's get the similarities out of the way. It's not flashy - rather the sort of thing you'd call gritty or urban or just plain dark. It rains a lot in frequent parts of the film too. It's heavy, pounding rain and it adds a wonderfully oppressive mood to the tone of things.
Goodness knows that's something that needs no help, as this gives the aforementioned reference point a very good run for it's money in terms of building a mood, holding it and taking you along downhill with it. Whether you like it or not. I'd be very surprised if anybody could fail to be hooked after even the first scene. There are enough surprises and plot twists - though fortunately nothing unbelieveable - that if the mood doesn't get you then the story will.
You will like it though, as long as you don't expect kittens, sunshine or anything resembling a positive emotion. If, however, you fancy obsession, revenge and the collision of where these meet art on skin then dive in. One thing you'll never do is look at a tattoo the same way again.
If you do then just be thankful you're looking at it while it's still attached........

Watched Far From Heaven a couple of nights ago. I realy love Julianne Moore - she's so great in alot of films (boogie nights, magnolia, psycho remake even ) and she's good in this too. Particulalry when she walked in on her husband snogging another bloke
That's a great film - everything about it, from the costumes to the cinematography to the music, really evokes those old 50s melodramas. Julianne Moore's been excellent in everything I've seen her in. And Dennis Quaid's a total DILF!

It did seem a bit Hollywooded up (it's in English for instance, when I think they should have done it in Japanese with subtitles). I think they're hoping for Oscars. I'd never read the book, but my boyfriend had, and he said they'd changed certain parts of it. I loved the way it looked though, and Gong Li was good as the bitchy Geisha (Hatsumuro, is it?).

Haven't watched a dubbed or localized film in years. It's just wrong. Part of the feel of a film, especially one foreign to the place seeing it, is the sound of the language. It's part of the culture and people using their own language will mostly give a more genuine peformance.
I'm about to watch "Gohatto" as part of my Takeshi 'Beat' Kitano weekend.

In around 100mins director Nagisa Oshima guides the 1996 "Gohatto" ('taboo', or more literally, 'against the rules') through much more than the Samurai militia movie that cover photo's alude to.
Bringing together, for the first time since 'Merry Cristmas Mr Lawrence', the music and mood setting of Ryuichi Sakamoto with the understated yet on the money (as ever) Takeshi Kitano, Oshima threads together a tale of a garrison of samurai around the time of the decline of shogunate power and an involved murder mystery.
Recruitment brings two new applicants into the garrison. The brash and forthright Tashiro and the beautiful and provocative Kano. As time progresses and the all-male school reacts to the characters brought into the fold, it shows on many levels how repressed love, lust and jealousy can cause ripples that lead to waves through class, honour and even the most the established power structure of the time.
What makes this so different from the current crop of sword-and-man themed movies is that this is firmly grounded in very earthly reality. There's not a moment of flying wireplay during the fights, no magic potions are thrown and absolutely no running is done across rooftops. This is fighting with stumbles, trips, brute force sometimes replacing skill and the very human nature of combat, albeit honed.
The same themes are evident in the surprisingly expanded characters - from the new entrants, through to the the highest ranks, nobody is free from the most base of feelings and emotions.
Some scenes are simply breathtaking, especially the entrance by a fully-adorned geisha paid for by Kitano's Captain Hijikata as a method for pouring oil on the troubled waters of the school. Even in scenes like this there is none of the paletted panels of recent epics, reaching for many fewers colours yet painting something more vivid.
As a story of death and honour of the period it's very good, but with the many layers of human frailty toning the semi-accepted yet still harshly controlled love of one recruit for another, it lends itself to being quite a unique film.
Anybody out for another "Hero" or "Crouching Tiger..." may be surprised or turned-off by the subject matter, but as a microcosm of man's love for his fellow man, both in honour and lust, this is a restrained gem.
Broken Flowers - funny and touching.
Not absolutely sure about the ending though.

That's a great film - she's like a psycho version of Amélie in it. Such a great actress And I liked that gorgeous actor with the black hair who played the guy who was in love with her character, he looked like something out of a Renaissance painting.

Watched it last night - really well-made, and seemed to really give a sense of what it would have been like in Berlin in the last days of the war. It really confirmed, if any confirmation were needed, what a bunch of psychos the Nazi top brass were, like religious zealots. Especially Magda Goebbels - what a cold-blooded bitch, killing her kids like that. Some of the facts were pretty shocking too, like those young Hitler Youth kids being press-ganged into fighting the invading Russians. One of my workmates told me he'd almost gone on a first date to see it - don't think that would have been a great choice...

It was on lastnight never seen it before What a fantastic Film it's now in my Top 3 favourite film's of all time :)
You can't really believe that those two wrote it can you? And its only that film and 'Dead Poets Society' that haven't been a complete waste of Robin Williams' time.
I'm currently ploughing my way through the 'Long Way Round' thing with Ewan McGregor (who I do love) and Charley Borman. Why did everyone rave bout this? Its terribly sanctimonious, and often dull.

I watched the Classsic Albums DVD of Pink Floyd's Dark Side Of The Moon, from which I got my new signiture.
Also saw Koyaanisquatsi, which seems to me so like the footage shot to accompany the Floyd for the Dark Side live shows.

Haven't seen them.
I never think that his performances are bad its just that a lot of the time he gets put in sanctimonious crap like 'Patch Adams'. I think that scriptwriters treat him with a lot of contempt.
Anyways, I've been watching 'Drive Well, Sleep Carefully: On the Road With Death Cab For Cutie' which was bought for me by the love of my life and I'm ever so grateful!

Agreed. I think he's also made some v.bad choices too. Still, I can heartily recommend the films I mentioned.

Picnic at Hanging Rock.
That's such a great film, so atmospheric, and I love the fact that it doesn't just tie things up neatly like so many films. I don't think Peter Weir gets enough credit as a director.
Last film I watched was Tie Me Up, Tie Me Down on DVD last night. A nice reminder of when Antonio Banderas was still sexy, before he hooked up with that hag Melanie Griffith.

Goldfrapp could do a wonderful soundtrack to a moody, atmospheric film. Film producers.....get your finger out (so to speak).
