I Know Who Killed Me
Excellent re-do of the old Giallo genre.
I watched that a couple of weeks back. An excellent re-do, indeed. And it shows that Lindsay Lohan is an excellent adult actress (although I'm not sure that it was the right film for her to do). :o
Sleep Furiously
An unconventional documentary portrait of a remote Welsh rural community.
Beautifully filmed, it's very low key, often gently funny and very moving. There's a sparse, but captivating soundtrack by the Aphex Twin, as well.
All in all, simply sublime.

...I'm not sure that it was the right film for her to do.
It was perfect for her. The only thing was missing was Irene Papas as the the killer's protective mother and Kate Bush singing Mother Stands for Comfort.

I'm inclined to agree, but that wasn't quite what I had in mind. I was thinking that it may not have been a very good idea as a career move. The film does seem to have received a lot of (to my mind unjust) adverse criticism. :o
Last night, I watched The Abominable Snowman (1957 black & white Hammer film). :)

Oh, yeah. But I couldn't give a fuck about her career. She seems to do a good job of fucking that up off the silver screen. The negative criticism doesn't surprise me a bit. I mean, what sort of reception did the true Giallos receive in their day? I doubt that, outside of Lohan's salary itself, the film cost much of anything to make.

Ah, good to see this get a mention - makes me want to dig out my Argento & Fulci stuff.

Plein Soleil, the French 1960s version of The Talented Mr Ripley, starring one of the most beautiful men ever, Alain Delon. Interesting that the ending was quite different to the Hollywood one. I've never read the book, so I don't klnow which is closer to it.

I thought at very least there'd be some good action scenes, the ads made the animation at least seem decent.....
It was pure crap from the second it started until the second it ended, then to top off the shit sundae that was the movie was the shit cherry of that Black Eyed Peas song......

I saw an ad for that G.I.HoBag movie before Harry Potter, and i've got to say, i was a bit sickened by the effects, because most of them didn't look realistic. like, when that guy crashed through the bus, or something, the glass was like "we're fake little pieces of pixels added in post production!!", it made me barf.
but I just watched AI: Artificial Intelligence, and it was interesting. it was a very touching movie.

No, it's not the recent western remake but the original Takashi Miike J-horror from 2004.
I'm typing this from behind the sofa....with all the lights on...and my mobile in the bin.
That was bloody scary!
It's amazing how western cinema can copy films from the east, even sometimes scene by scene, but never quite capture the atmosphere the original manages to get across. This was probably best described as somewhere between The Ring, The Grudge & Final Destination but made by the enfant terrible of Japanese cinema that made Audition.
If you fancy watching something through your fingers then this should do you well :D

Watched the remake of The Taking of Pelham One Two Three last night. Didnt find it too bad and was quite enjoyable but certainly prefer the original 1974 version with Robert Shaw. He was a much better villain than John Travolta in this new version (he overplays the role a bit too much).
It was quite entertaining to play "count the word motherfucker" in this film as well!

Went to see Mesrine part 1: Death Instinct at the weekend - French true-life crime drama about a famous 1970s gangster. Thought it was pretty good, quite violent though of course. Vincent Cassell was really good in the lead role. I always like him in films - he's kind of strange-looking, but really attractive and charismatic with it.

It's like a mopey teenage drama, trying to be intelligent and complex, but just ending up rather messy, and it is complete with Chuck from Gossip Girl trying to be James Dean like, and brooding in every single scene.
Donnie Darko was effortlessly brilliant. S.Darko was just trying way too hard.

The big trouble with remakes is that (surprise, surprise) they usually remake good films. Then (surprise, surprise, again) the remakes are usually nothing like as good as the originals. The films they should remake are the ones that had basically good ideas, but were done badly. :o

Dear man or woman, that was the least of it. Besides, I adored Bubo.
I actually used to show this to my Latin students during our mythology unit. Their job was to identify the discrepancies and to discuss how myths changed over time--even in ancient times--to suit contemporary needs. Some of the more brilliant kids were able to identify characters from non-Classical myth and legend.

"Resident Evil: Apocalypse" for about the third time.
There's not enough Milla/Alice goodness, obviously, but it's a decent enough zomb-em-up romp if you like the whole Resi universe. Sienna Guillory looks great as Jill Valentine but acts like she's been caught while doing a photoshoot in costume. Shame.

Completely agree Carpy! I really enjoyed District 9 - I wasn't expecting it to be quite so relentlessly violent, but that didnt put me off, i was completely gripped all the way through. And the way it skipped from a documentary to a full on action film totally seamlessly was awesome! That movie is hilarious. It's best watched on a Sunday morning after a big night when you have no brain cells.
Is that an earthquake? No, it's Raaammmmonne.
Oh okay Toby, Fuck off!!
Just came back from seeing 'Unmade Beds'.
Nice indie movie about some kids living in the London East End underground trying to find their way in life and love.
had a bit of a weak middle, but picked up quite good in the end.
District 9.
Enjoyed it. More action oriented than I expected but that probably got it in to the multiplexes. On the train home yesterday, I noticed a guy watching it on his laptop. Definitely a poorer viewing experience.
I wonder if we'll have to wait 3 years for District 10?

I'm really puzzled about whether I should go and see 'Antichrist' or not.
I have seen all of Lars Von Trier's films up until now (his early Danish films, Riget - his take on hospital series, and all his later films), so it would seem like a big miss not to see it.
But on the other hand, there's been so much said about this film that..well, scares me a little.
I'm not a good one for 'horror' and when reading that this can definitely live up to 'Saw' and the likes, I'm pretty damn scared!
On the other hand, I do like the whole idea behind this film, especially the whole 'man versus nature' thing, which I find really intriguing.

Yeah, I have...and that just makes it more difficult, because on one hand I'm thinking 'wow, this looks really great' (especially visually), but on the other hand it's also really easy to take it 'one step too far' and that would ruin it for me.
As I know how easily he crosses the line between 'masterpiece' and 'over the top'...

Reviews vary greatly - some saying it's a violent masterpiece and others saying it's simply a bad misogynistic mess.

Walter Sobchak (http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0000422/): And you know this!
The Dude (http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0000313/): Yeah, and five fucking years ago you were divorced.
Walter Sobchak (http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0000422/): So what are you saying? When you get divorced you turn in your library card? You get a new license? You stop being Jewish?
The Dude (http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0000313/): It's all a part of your sick Cynthia thing, man. Taking care of her fucking dog. Going to her fucking synagogue. You're living in the fucking past.
Walter Sobchak (http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0000422/): Three thousand years of beautiful tradition, from Moses to Sandy Koufax...

I've never liked Chicken Run. I do love a lot of Nick Park stuff, but that and "The Wrong Trousers" I'm not keen on at all. I am very glad that someone is still refusing to use CGI though. Those CGI animated films (except possibly for "Shrek") leave me cold. They always look rubbish, and soulless.

Don't meant to name drop (i do really), but the person that voices Nick the fat rat in Chicken Run, Timothy Spall, is my cousin. True story. Well second cousin, but a cousin's a cousin right? He plays a rat in Harry Potter too ...

Heat. Why haven't i seen this film until now?
One of the best uses of a tune in a film soundtrack - using Moby's "God Moving Over The Face Of the Water" for the big finale is genius..

Coraline.
Really, really brilliant - believe all the hype around still. It's a true modern classic fairytale. Much, much darker than Nightmare Before Christmas and is far better for it.
The 3D specs with the dvd are crap though - they've still not got that bit right but I'd still score it 11/10 for the film.

^I'll try to go see that one! :D
It's good indeed.
Though I must admit I was surprised (not having read the books) it used quite a lot of stereotypes
Ranging from the bisexual goth hacker-girl to the secretive family with a nazi past.

Considering his political background the Nazi part is no surprise.

Loves it !
"Moon" by Bowie's son Duncan Jones
Awesome movie, one of the best story-driven science fictions I've seen for some time.
Sam Rockwell delivers an amazing performance.
And to top it all off Clint Mansel did the soundtrack. 'nuff said ;)

The soundtrack is incredible for that movie, Mansell really does a lot of great scores.
I thought it was abit overly close to 2001 and The Island but it was a great movie

Moon is one of the ones on my list to see - good to hear yet another good report on it. Bodes well indeed.
Mansell's "Requiem For A Dream" score is so iconic that I'm still hearing things on TV & film lift part of it even now. Only issue I have with it is the film fucks me up so badly when I watch it that even the music gets to me. Still genius though.
