I watched "Little Miss Sunshine" a while ago. But it still feels as if I hadn't seen a film for ages. :(

I saw "The Fountain" yesterday.
Quite different from what I expected, but I liked it AND I love Rachel Weisz, I just thought I'd say it...;)
Loved that film when I saw it :)
Haven't seen Juno yet but want to go see it real soon.....
Saw Cloverfield today......I enjoyed it although the shaky camera did get a bit annoying. Genuinely jumped a few times too:eek:
Superman Returns - makes the mistake of pushing the interpersonal story to the fore making it too much of a melodrama and causing the film to end curiously flatly*. Enjoyed it, great special effects but flawed nonetheless.

I got to see the 'YOU CAN'T HANDLE THE TRUTH!! finale of A Few Good Men when i went to see Kenny a while ago. About as much of that movie as I need to see, I guess.
Short Circuit.
I preferred the sequel, even if they did insist on an extended slow motion sequence of Jonny-5 being bludgened close to death...

I watched that machinist last yr on dvd with my mom. Personally i like films i don't understand, call me strange haha! He's was painfully skinny though! Dangerously so!
I've watched the first two Bourne Films, as t'other half has been brought the 3rd one. (thought I'd best watch them so I don't keep saying "who's that?", "What's he do?", "Why's he doing that?" all the way through).
Not as bad as I thought they would be - kinda like Bond but without the innuendo.

Eurgh I know it was disgusting!! He can;t really have been that skinny, he must've got down to as low as was safely allowed and then the rest they did with computers or something, no man would be insane enough to be that skinny just for a film, surely?! Well I might be wrong! It was a good film, but all the way through it I was scared that it was going to be one of those films with no proper ending.

Shockingly, there were no special effects involved on that front - what you see was what he did in order to play the part as he thought it needed. Yikes. There was much talk of him then having to bulk up to play Batman following it !!

So basically the male version of renne zellweger... :P I saw the machinist ages ago, really liked it, very dark if i remembered correctly! And Christian Bale has always floated my boat....even if he does look like he's about to die in this :/
Finally got around to seeing cloverfield last night....which i quite liked... the way it shows brands and stuff makes it more believable and the subway sequence was SO freakin intense like!!! But the end just dragged on and on... even if it was a short film, it just went from ridiculous to more so... ah for a monster film t'was good enough i suppose :D

I agree. Started off so well - then just seem to do the *oh they're dead*, *no they're not*, *now they're dead*, *no they're not* etc etc (not wanting to give away the ending or owt.) But as long as they don't do the much rumoured sequel then I'm happy! ;)

Definitely Maybe - well, I knew it wasn't going to be great...but I didn't think it was going to be this bad...2 hours of, well, a story that really didn't need to be drawn out as long as it was, if it had been about 30 minutes shorter with better editing it might have been quite enjoyable...but as it is...it's just plain boring...you know what's going to happen in the end (sort of there is a bit of a twist...but after working up to that twist for the last hour and 50 minutes you really do think...what the hell was the point of that?) plus going by the IMDB and RT scores...it should have been a decent (ish) film. oh well...
I still like Ryan Reynolds, and I still Love Isla Fisher :p:p:p but not even they could save this film :( they even showed the trailer for Sex And The City (the Movie) :(:(:(:( I mean that show really didn't need a film...(it was good for a while, but really got boring very quickly)

Weirdly, I enjoyed that film - except for the ending. My sympathies, throughout, were for Ms Geller's character. If I'd written the screen play, she would have triumphed.
The last film I watched was You Can't Cheat an Honest Man. It has its moments - but not W C Fields' best.
Madness! She was a total bitch and got what she deserved in the end, in a very clever way, which is what makes the ending so great (that and Bittersweet Symphony, which just works so well!)

Moving away from the cruel intentions talk that is slowly turning into SMG smut... I watched Juno last friday... I thought it was fantastic! I cried pretty much for the end 15 minutes because I'm a soppy cow. The soundtrack's brilliant and I can't wait for it to come out on DVD! Ellen Page was fantastic and I'm pleased to say that I don't fancy her anymore, it would just be wrong], although is it worse that I fancied her in Xmen3? When she was younger?! hmm.

Moving back to Cruel Intentions, briefly, that's the only time I've almost got a boner over Selma Blair. Her character is sooo adorable in that film, and she looks much fitter than the Gellar.
I saw Cloverfield the other night and was pleasantly surprised. Hadn't seen much of the hype and thought maybe the hand-held camera thing was just an excuse to make a cheap monster film, but thought it was great...it does make you feel more like you're in the thick of it and you gotta love Hud!
I wish you got to see Rob get ripped to bits though...he was a twat...
We sat 4 rows from the front and neither of us felt an ounce of dizziness/sickness...so guess that was part of the hype machine too...

Indeed - I thought it was going to be all the rage, but in the end it was about 4 people who couldn't make up their mind about who to fuck and therefor tried eachother out x times, while saying words like 'fuck' and 'cunt' and 'suck' and what not numerous times as if they were words like 'hello', 'how', 'are', 'you', and 'doing'.

Another 2 films which i have watched recently and recommend are 21 grams,a film similar to crash but bleaker, and The Machinist which has elements of Fight Club and Crime & Punishment. The main character is played by Christian Bale(Batman and American Phycho).Similar to Daniel Day lewis,he takes method acting to the extreme, losing so much weight for the role, he becomes nearly unrecognisable

I saw that not long ago and mentioned it in here.
As for Crash, I really can't stand it, it's one of the most pretentious films I've ever seen, not impressed at all.
Watched Fortress last night, twas ok. Love all those kinds of films.
Tried to watch Hot Fuzz, but turned it off after half an hour, just wasn't getting into it. So watched Alien 3 instead, never seen it before, better than i was expecting considering how many people i've heard put it down.

It did look very pretentious, that is why I was not too bothered about seeing it.
I just got Stardust on DVD and watched it last night - I do love that film!
'The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford'
Really good. Fine performances, superb cinematography and a compelling study of warped hero-worship, paranoia and betrayal. Leisurely paced too, which was just right and although it lasts two hours and forty minutes, it didn't feel too long.
And the film does exactly what it says on the tin :D
recently watched:
Look Both Ways (excellent Aussie film)
Juno (great, Ellen Page is wonderfull)
No Country for Old Men (the Coen bros at the top of their game)
Butterfly on a Wheel (surprisingly good)
Lars and the Real Girl (great performance by Ryan Gosling, heartwarming movie)
Rescue Dawn (Christian Bale is really good in this one - excellent support by Jeremy Davies who plays one of the new characters -Daniel- on Lost)
13 Tzameti (spine chilling 'different' thriller)
Both versions of Hairspray. I like the original best.
I love the original but I think if you watch the remake first you are less likely to like the original, seems to be the way it happened with my friends..
I am currently watching Across the Universe.
Hmm you might be right. I watched the original first. When we watched the remake me and housemate thought the music wasnt as good and there was too much singing.
Just watched the Southpark film.

watched Alien 3 instead, never seen it before, better than i was expecting considering how many people i've heard put it down.
It so doesn't deserve its reputation as the "bad" Alien film. That all came from the test audiences, which for some inexplicable reason were chosen entirely from California's sk8er boi fraternity, and they all hated it because of the number of British actors in it. There's perhaps less suspense in it than the other films, but I still love it.
Saw "Deuce Bigalow - European Gigolo" over the weekend - hilarious. Also saw "The Fog", an early John Carpenter horror. I always wonder if it was based on the James Herbert book - if so, it's a VERY loose base!

As it was easter watched Ben Hur(for the umpteeth time) and the Passion Of the Christ. The latter you cant really enjoy watching as well the graphic nature of the crucifixion and the prolonged torture scene is very uncomfortable viewing. But Ben Hur is a film you can watch over and over again, possibly one of the best films of all time, and i still well up at the end when Ben Hur's sister and mother have been miraclously cured of leprosy

I feel like i've just watched half a movie, would it have killed them to go half an hour longer to maybe finish it?

Isn't Ben Hur a Charlton Heston film? I just can't watch him any more. He's Obergruppenfuhrer of the NRA. So when you hear that some looney has gunned down however many people in an American High School, a slice of the blame belongs with Charlton Heston. Watching a film with him in would be as uncomfortable as watching Gary Glitter on TOTP.
There's always the 1907 silent version of Ben Hur for anyone that wants to see the film, but not Charlton Heston!
The Orphanage.
Saw this at the cinema yesterday. A Spanish film about a woman who returns to live in the orphanage she was brought up in only to encounter some sinister forces at work!
It's very good. Creepy, atmospheric and packed with suspense.
The executive producer is Guillermo del Toro (of Pan's Labyrinth fame) and the film has some things in common with his earlier work - The Devil's Backbone. This film is from a first-time director however.
I really want to see that!

Lars and the Real Girl
A film about a guy in a relationship with an sex doll sounds dodgy doesn't it? This is far from that. A brilliant, sweet, funny, touching and very emotional film about how a community helps a painfully introverted/mentally ill guy played by Ryan Gosling (who was in Half Nelson).
It was written by Nancy Oliver who wrote many episodes of Six Feet Under, so that gives you a good idea of its pedigree.

I've never seen the original, never even heard of the film till my uncle suggested it (a Tim Roth fan)...the strange thing is, is that I've seen the poster for it (or at least the Naomi Watts poster) but never really took any notice as it looked like something else.

The Orphanage - not as scary as everyone made out
Battle Royale II
Totally unneccessary. A stupid plot that mostly consists of 'We hate adults, let's kill them all!' and 'We hate kids, let's kill them all!'
All the new characters had about 5 minutes of backstory and were so two dimensional and flat, it's pretty much impossible to care as yet another gets killed in some way. The main lead just spends the whole film with this odd stare in his eyes as if he's seen something disturbing off camera and the guy from the last film seems to have evolved into Osama Bin Laden if he were Japanese.
Pointless.

Such a let down after the first one isn't it? I remember watching a dodgy bootleg copy of it, and the entire arrival, classroom and dispatch scenes were missing, so they were riding along happily then suddenly they were having the hell blown out of them, ah good times. It's an alright film though i suppose, no where near as great as BR though. I have the extended one on DVD and i haven't watched it yet, which reminds me i probably should at some point.

I saw the original version and thought it well made, but absolutely gruelling and completely depressing. So, no desire to see the remake. I guess that means that Michael Haneke was successful in his intentions.
Son of Rambow
Saw this yesterday. It's about 2 kids who are inspired by First Blood to make their own home movie. It turns out to be an escape from, and reflection of other things going on in their lives.
It has a certain charm and nice directorial flourishes at times but the script doesn't match it's ambitions.
"La misma luna". Mexican movie about illegal inmigrants. A boy crossed the border to join his mom. Kind of cheesy but nice one. I cried :o

yes it's a shot for shot remake (I've had a scan through of the original, and it's pretty much "shot for shot")
But I doubt that anyone could have done a better performance than Naomi Watts (As she was extremely good) and those two guys...
I may have to compare the two films (But I don't think I'll be able to watch the original now, as for me, the U.S. version was perfect.
I didn't really see the film as depressing, in fact, because it's so different to most other films, it's actually quite refreshing. (not that the things that happen in the film are very nice...well you know what I mean...I hope.)

Kubrick's Eyes Wide Shut on Saturday night (the board was down; so I had to, like watch somthing. ).
Pretty much what I expected; a brightly lit, meticilously blocked and shot, performance with simple lines and depth that sinks into the bedrock of life.
And the scene in the clothing shop with the owner's daughter and those two guys gave me a laughing fit like you would not believe. "Have you no decency". That reminded me of a famous moment from the McCarthy era, and I just lost it.
And Nicole Kidman, aye.:)

"My Neighbors the Yamadas" (Hōhokekyo Tonari no Yamada-kun)
Just finished watching this Studio Ghibli film/cartoon/soap thing - it's like a gentler and more down to earth Simpsons, but drawn in an almost soft watercolour style and it's a great eye opener on traditional modern Japanese life. Pretty funny all through and well worth it.
There's also lots of Haiku by Matsuo Bashō, Busho, Taneda Santoka and Buson dotted through to punctuate the sections and they're really beautiful. Might check some of the classic Bashō ones out at some point.

It kind of annoyed me a bit too as it took ages tro get going, but in retrospect that only served to build up the tension. Afew scary moments. Obviously some good horro coming out of Spain at the moment but didn't enjoy as much as The Orphanage.
Apparently my Hard Candy DVD doesn't work anymore. Probably for the best, if i watched that film i know i'd regret it.
Hungarian movie Taxidermia
Quite possibly one of the most gross, nausea-inducing, watch through your fingers, don't blink for ages movies I've seen in ages.
As a pointer, in case you're curious, it features a man having sex with a dead pigs corpse, a guy that ejaculates fire, a taxidermist that operates on live things, a speed eating and speed vomiting competitor, a head being shot to pieces, a cat eating a hole into a stomach and that's just the main points. Trust me, you don't want to know the rest !
i watche it too:eek:
made me want to distance myself from the hungarian side of the family actyally! on a lighter note, i watched Dreamgirls last night. you just can't knock a good ol' musical. worth watching just to see beyonce get out-sung by about 5 different other perfromers :D to be fair she was actually very good, but jenneifer hudsen's voice is just
Persepolis.
An engrossing animated film (old school 2D drawings like the graphic novel on which it's based) about the life of a girl growing up in post revolution Iran.
Very moving at times and some brilliant images. Only the narration spoils it at times and the mixture of accents jar somewhat.
"Misery" As if Kathy Bates isnt scary enough on her own...im gonna be having ankle nightmares for weeks :(

AAAAAAAAAAAAAH! I love Persepolis - read the graphic novels and saw the film. It's too brilliant!
I'm going to watch "The Eternal Children" tonight - cannot wait! *squee*

And by one of those cosmic coincidences, today's edition of The Times carries the obituary of one of the original St. Trinian's girls...

A pity they didn't include a picture of her in St Trinian's uniform. :o
Whatever Happened To Baby Jane?
Twisted sister indeed! Sat tucked up in bed with my cat at my feet and a bowl of popcorn last night and watched this. Good film, i sort of ended up feeling more sorry for Jane than Blanche in the end, i like films that make you twist your perception of the characters as the film goes on. The ending was genius!

Pride and prejudice.
I was in the mood for some Keira, that's why. I can't say I was that impressed by it though, maybe my expectations were just too high because of the Oscar-buzz that surrounded it at the time of release.
Still: Keira! <3².

I want to wake up where all peoples roles have been changed...
(I prefer the original cover though...that one is too...well...light...would have been better if they had just had a black cover with silver text "DARK CITY")

Agreed about the cover, it's kinda like they combined the Metropolis cover with the MCP from Tron.
Just watched "Iron Man". Jon Favreau is truly a fan boy who made this geek proud. :D Robert Downey, Jr. IS Tony Stark.
After the ending credits *SPOILER ALERT* Samuel L. Jackson makes his appearance as Nick Fury and talks about S.H.I.E.L.D. and another group called The Avengers. YES!

"Breaking the Waves" (Lars Von Trier) yesterday, been wanting to see it for years but I couldn't get hold of it (a friend of mine got it on VHS! VHS!)
It's quite good, very similar to "Dancer in the Dark", though nothing can beat that one.

I watched Cabin Fever last night (well, kind of, I was on the laptop faffing about shopping at the same time) it was okay, not scary in the slightest though. Old man in the shop stole the whole entire film.

Alvin & The Chipmunks
(due to the fact I had been told it was hilarious)...it was not. :( the only bit that made me laugh (and quite a bit) had nothing to do with the chipmunks (and their hilarious voices :( did they really need Justin Long doing the "voice of Alvin"...??? ;))
but the part the part that made me laugh was the bit about 10 minutes from the end, the bit with David Cross locking the chipmunks in a cat carrier where Jason Lee (who for some reason really isn't funny anymore...My Name Is Earl has really gone to pot...and the "AlllllllViiiiiin" was just cringe worthy) he says something like "you can't do that, they need their rest" and David Cross says "oh...why didn't you say so 5 seconds ago, the guys already gone...(quietly)...come back!!!" :D and that was the only scene...
The Cottage
erm................erm.....................erm.... .....Jennifer Ellison looked good in it....erm.......she swears a lot which is quite funny..."Fuuuckhhin Khhilll ihmmm ya daft chhhunt" :D Reece Shearsmith was great in it...but...eh....just not a good enough film...nothing much really happens in it...which is weird as there is a hell of a lot of potential for things to happen. bahhhh
Street Kings
a good film, let down by Forrest Whitaker...again...something about his acting I really don't like...plus his eye distracts me a lot...especially in this film...nothing special though...reminded me of Training Day (only that film is great).

Teehee ;) Poor Forest...well, atleast he's rich!
I started to watch a martial arts film on television last night - called Heroes - but I soon grew sick of it, and watched something else. Why did the Radio Times give it 5 stars?
... because it's amazing, that's why.
Edit1: It's just called Hero
Edit2: Time travel ahoy!

Later in the evening, I watched the whole of The Beast from 20,000 Fathoms. A black and white classic with Ray Harryhausen stop motion animation. Do I need to say more?

X-Men 3: The Last Stand
Special effects galore! And how! It was SOOO spectacular.
And it even had some sort of story behind it too, which is always nice for a movie, especially an action movie.
Seriously, though: why did they have to kill Jean? Couldn't they give her the cure too? Like they did for Magneto?
Oh well. I like the X-Men movies. I can't really explain why, though; I just do.
Osama
Watched this to see if we could use some elements of it in a presentation on Afghanistan. Very shocking at moments, and oh my God, what an ending! Poor girl. :(
