I've seen that (travelling pants) and it's surprisingly okay... I thought it was going to be unbelievably cheesy, which okay it is a little, but there are a few serious storylines going on in there as well. I don't know if I'd say it was 100% worth the watch but I didn't feel like I'd completely wasted my time watching it.

Ah see I only saw the heartwarming ending. And I do love the one that plays the girl's dad that is getting married whose name has gone out of my head, Bradley something...from the west wing!

D.E.B.S., a hard-hitting, edge-of-seat fly-on-the-way short-back-and-sides documentary exposé which proves what everyone knew all along; if you send the leader of a team of short skirted model-spies after a foxy evil mastermind she'll turn into a red-hot dyke. Harrowing. *****

Do you think the short skirts being blue tartan made a difference to the outcome? Perhaps they should do documentaries involving other fabrics to check it out.

Do you think the short skirts being blue tartan made a difference to the outcome? Perhaps they should do documentaries involving other fabrics to check it out.Not just the skirts. There was an 'invisible' force field outside the HQ which matched the girls skirts - this is no coincidence. There's a lot going on in that movie. It has a multi-dimensional narrative juxtapositioning sexual sterotypes with other, like, stuff. And a denouement. In tartan.

Sticking with the gay films...last night I watched Imagine me and you. It's got Piper 'I play fuck loads of lezzogs' Perabo and a massivly great english cast... Including Anthony Head and Celia Imrie who are both fab! It's such an english flick like 4 weddings style or whatever, but it was quite good, until the cheesy ending, but I'll let them off for that.

I take it you've not seen the original film or read the book then? Cause the ending is exactly the same, all be it set in America rather than the England of olde (for both films) :)

Asides from the fact that it's staying true to the original I think the concept of the ending itself is genius and a nice little subtle, but poignant, observation on evolution.

We watched Shaun Of The Dead on telly earlier.

I've got those - some parts are truly, truly screwed up. I used to trade all sorts of great (and sometimes dreadful) J stuff and got through loads of films. There is truly nothing like Japanese cinema, though Korea is really hitting the spot these days too. It's not to everybody's taste a lot of the time but in terms of inventiveness and sheer force of will you really have to try some.

Dan In Real Life :( why oh why did I not watch the trailer first...

Steve Carell normally quite funny...in that..."he's funnier than Will Ferrell" kind of way. there was about 10 seconds that made me smile/laugh, you know, that laugh where it's not particularly funny but there's something that you liked about it...that 10 seconds is split between 2 scenes by the way :(

Juliet Binoche whoa, how bad can someone act? pretty damn bad by the looks of it, everything just seemed way too dragged out like the scene where she's laughing...it's one of those really fake laughs that goes on for ages...and doesn't change.

people in the audience were laughing...out loud, in what sounded like fake laughs too...why do people do that? is it something about trying to make something better by pretending you find it funny? I don't know.

anyway, it was an ok storyline, nothing new (at all) but then I wasn't expecting that. oh god...I nearly forgot Dane Cook...how the hell does he find work? he just isn't funny.

of course if I had known it was a PG before going I would have said no fucking way thank you...(I only realised when the trailers started...:( Street Racer :( Juno :( National Treasure :( then the big PG sign came up...

of course there are PG films that are pretty good...this ain't one of them.

These are fairly tame, but good story to them. I've heard the Guinea Pig series is supposed to be quite horrid, never seen them though.

Forbidden Siren is HORRIBLE!

The film is pretty good considering it game from a game. I only ever played the Japanese version of the game, which was tricky considering it was all Japanese (fucking gutted they dubbed it, they should have just slapped subtitles on it, Japanese natives do not sound British you fucking idiots!) and i loved the sight jack thing, was so creepy, seeing that someone was watching you from the bushes, so cool!

Having seen all of Aaron Sorkin's work in TV, I am now watching his movies. This one was pretty good. Some nice dialogue (to be expected) and good performances. The two stories (the student rapes and the main story involving Nicole Kidman) didn't mesh all that well, though I understand that they needed the student rape story to reveal one key piece of info...

I'm still up for seeing that - when the Cohen's are on form, as they are by all accounts on this, then it really hits the spot.

I've set my magic-silver-box-that-records-telly to grab the classic '71 road movie "Two Lane Blacktop" on Film4 later. Two guys drag racing across the USA in a grey 55 Chevy. Way better than "Vanishing Point", yet that gets the headlines. Go figure.

love that film. i'm usually a bit dismissive of keira knightley but to be fair she was very good and the transition from book to film is excellent.

just watch "death proof".

as long as you're not hoping for a deeply involving story line like his other films then you'll have a blast with the trashy 70s B movie look :p as usual very cool and stylised, but to be honest i think it'll be more effective when the "grindhouse" versions released.

you see the monster...but only split seconds as it's meant to be amateur footage. (I haven't seen it yet though so can't answer how much of the monster you see...though if you want to know, there are pictures (drawings) of what the monster looks like)

I'm thinking that there will be a sequel (as this is only found footage, there could be more footage from someone else's camera) it all depends on how well this does though...and 71% on Rotten Tomatoes is pretty good for this genre of film...not that anyone should ever go by critics opinions (they gave NCFOM 95% found that out after seeing it thank god)

still can't wait, but as a lot of people are saying if you suffer from motion sickness then this film is probably not a good idea.

Yes, there are little to no steadycam shots. So its handheld - all from the perspective of the characters - a la "Blair Witch".

You get to see the monster - up close in some scenes. It is what J.J. Abrams said it to be - America's Godzilla, only no nuclear firebreathing - it does something else that is more menacing and it truly attacks people individually. Whereas Godzilla just tramples and spews his nuclear fire to burn down Tokyo.

From the start, its setup to show the story in the past. That's why I'm not sure what will be next. The movie broke box office records in the US - beating out the "Star Wars - Rerelease" in 1999. "Cloverfield" apparently took in $41USD million in over a three-day weekend. Not bad for a January release.

Me too...

good, but most of the songs are shite, Timothy Spall's first song is just atrocious, why did they try and fit so many words into one sentence? Helena did her best, but most of the time (again) having too many words to sing in a sentence just didn't work...

Johnny Depp made this film, without him I think a lot of people would have walked out, (Though I did enjoy it) he has a great voice (is there anything he can't do?) Sacha Baron Cohen is great as always, and have to say Alan Rickman has a great voice also. the blood at times can look a lot like that paint we all used back in primary school...but I can see why they didn't make it look more realistic (it would never have been given a rating otherwise)

one of the better songs I'd say was the erm...let's say recipe song in the shop when they are going over what to put in the pies.

I would like to say one thing, I've never seen Sweeney Todd, or read anything about it, so didn't know the story (though heard the name before) but...>>>I figured it out halfway through...

overall, a decent film, go and watch it if only for Johnny Depp.

How different would it have been if it was made by some Hollywood jock with too much money to care?
maybe a shoot out with a few explosions and Will Smith doing that pouty "I'm hard me I am" stare that he always does...

I just remembered every time that blonde girly bloke came on screen singing "Johanna" the audience were pissing themselves laughing...and I couldn't blame them...

oh and that other kid, his eyes were all over the place which really didn't help his performance.

and yes, I think they made the right choice with certain parts not having songs, but made mistakes by having certain people who couldn't sing, singing songs that even a professional singer would have problems with, in places where songs weren't really needed.

Over the weekend I watched Straight Talk (80s film with Dolly Parton) which was hilariously cheesy rubbish, really fantastic, with Dolly doing the soundtrack as well! James Woods is in it pre freaky surgery!

Last night I watched Gia, on orders from Kelly (the Jolie fan of the two of us) and it was quite good, completely not what I expected. It was filmed rather well and I'm glad there wasn't any emphasis on the fact that she had a gilfriend, if that makes sense?! They didn't make a big deal out of it... which makes a nice change in films! Shed a little tear at the end of it all. Probably should've started watching it earlier because I wanted to go to sleep by the end of it and was willing it to finish... which wasn't really fair to the film in honesty!

I'm ashamed to say that I watched Wyatt Earp on TV last night. I don't know how it happened because I really dislike the Costner but somehow got drawn in and spent about 2 hours wondering if history would somehow magically rewrite itself and he'd suddenly die and then it would stop...but it didn't.

And I'm sure that the woman who played his whore/pretend wife (not the 'Jew-Whore' girl) also plays the prostitute in My Name Is Earl. But its all a bit blurry...I'm not sure if it even really happened or if I just dreamed it all.

I has the single dvd version
I thought it was good
I liked the concept more than the actual film
I don't know ... i think they over confused the storyline
And had parts that were a bit unnecessary
But overall, i did enjoy it
It was a good game to film adaptation
And i have watched it say 4 times

I think you kinda need to have played the game and fully understand the story (and backstory) to appreciate and understand the film. Only film i've went to the cinema multiple times to see, just loved it. But come one, i know there are a fair few deleted scenes and i know there is more material to fill out a special edition. The hour-long making of is not bad, pretty good and in depth but still, its the only extra and that just sucks cause they are holding stuff back for a second release. The 2nd film will be good, so long as it isn't a sequel, fresh new story and it'll be fine.

Yeah i was dissapointed when they didn't have deleted scenes on the dvd
They had the making and all that crap
Which did show a scene of ermmm Rose? and .... the butch cop lady and ermmm the one who throws the rocks and gets her skin ripped off, Anna? yeah her
Anyway, there was a scene where Rose and Anna were running away from one of those rib cage thingys
And the butch cop was shooting it

Yeah ... that was worth it

I played number 1 when i was but a babe, i was petrified, those ps1 graphics made it worse
I thought that number 2 was going to have Sean Bean ventuing back into Silent Hill, doing the typical Hollywood dad "i just gotta save my wife and kids" thing
That's why i thought it wasn't going to be so good

Cloverfield - finally...a decent film. (may even go see it a few more times :))

it is a must see film at the cinema, do not wait to see it on DVD HD-DVD (yeah...like that'll still be around :D) Blu Ray...the motion isn't as bad as people are making out, (I sat halfway in the cinema (AMC Birmingham) you can see the sides of the screen, if you sit closer then it'll be just like any other film, you'll be looking side to side and your eyes will hurt, (I remember sitting pretty close when I went to see 28 Weeks Later, but motion sickness...you'd have to have a pretty weak stomach or a bad inner ear problem for that to happen...ok there is a lot of motion, it's meant to be a hand held camera, so you must expect that.

...it's not worth staying till the end of the credits though (you've probably heard a few things if you've been reading stuff on imdb...I stayed just to make sure I didn't miss anything...but it is only a garbled piece of audio that lasts about a second...no doubt it will turn up somewhere like youtube...

anyway, I loved it...but I better leave it there...cause I'm getting that feeling like I'm going to say something to spoil it...

they are meant to be doing an adaption of Silent Hill 2, Silent Hill was an adaption of Silent Hill (the first game) at least that was the last thing I heard about it...haven't read anything since that though....so that could have changed by now.

in the original, I heard that the end scene (well not the END scene, I mean the "let's rip people apart scene") was meant to be 3 Red Pyramid's tearing people apart...but their time and budget was running out (sounds pretty cool if it was true, but I quite like the way it ended)

all I say is they should take a few elements from Silent Hill 3 and a few plot points from Silent Hill 4 and go all out on the 2nd film, making it more grotesque and sinister than the first (which is what we all want really :D) ooh and more rusty metal would be a nice touch...:)

Grrr, we went to see two movies during class this week, both of which destroyed my dreamy, perfect Atonementmood. The only good thing about it was that we watched them during class. And that they weren't that bad. But still.

Je vais bien, ne t'en fais pas
For French. It was bearable, though the ending was such an anticlimax and ... I don't know, not good. It didn't seem to fit in with the rest and it was just so ... Gah.

Das Leben der Anderen
For German. Now this one I really liked. At some moments, it was a bit dreadful, but all in all it was nicely put together.
It's so surreal that the DDR spied on so many people and kept notes about their alleged suspicious behaviour! More surreal is the fact that those people can actually go and see what was written about them back in the day and find out who spied them. Imagine finding out that you can't trust anyone - your wife/husband, children, friends, neighbours ... My God!

and last but n... well, least:

The Holiday
For fun (at home already).
That Cameron Diaz is such an overacting actress. Kate Winslet wasn't all too good either. And don't get me started on that annoying Jack Black, grrr.
Conclusion: more than one hour of my life I'll never get back :(

Now "Ma Vie en Rose" is about a little boy, I think he must be around 8 who wants to be a girl. It doesn't sound as horrible as the film actually was, though, with angry parents completely freaking out, the boy being as irritating and not-girlish as a boy can be (so I didn't even understand what the problem was) and an over-the-top ending where the girl/boy meets a boy/girl! And the mother suddenly flies- I shouldn't forget to mention that! *shivers*

Other filmic delight :

"The eye of the eagle" (Middle Ages)

As Sidney Lumet is the director and it features Philip Seymour Hoffman, Ethan Hawke, Marisa Tomei and Albert Finney, you'd expect good direction and perfomances. And that's what you get. Lots of good reviews too, apparently.

However, it's an ugly story about fucked up people doing fucked up things and it just depressed me overall.:(

I've seen it twice now (first time stayed for end of credits...which turned out to be pointless...but at least I know it was :D and the music was pretty good :)) saw it in the day time (with people that obviously knew what the film was about) and it seemed as though everyone (like me) enjoyed the film immensely) there were only 2 other guys left at the end of the credits (looked like students) everyone else had gone.

saw it later (with my Uncle...whom I had told what the film was, and what to expect many many times many many weeks ago, he hated the shaky camera in 28 weeks Later, and any other film with shaky camera...I just had to say that there is actually a reason for it in this film...unlike 28 weeks Later which has it for no reason at all (though I still prefer that to "Days") but after the film had gotten to THAT bit I could hear a very loud sigh from the audience (mostly at the back of the room, with a few loud "that's it?" comments (obviously people who had no idea what the film was about...) even though it explains it at the very start (if you were paying attention ;))

If my budget could cope (trying to save money for a trip to Vegas and LA is a bastard) I'd go another few times, just to take everything in, it really is a Roller coaster (and even Mark Kermode gave it a thumbs up...which is something I wasn't expecting...

Aliens VS Predator Requiem

I have no idea what the fuck all the bad reviews for this film are going on about...I have no idea what the hell they were expecting from it...but I have to say, I really enjoyed it, it's not clever, it's not meant to be, it's bloody which it is meant to be, and it's got all the effects that you'd expect in an Alien/Predator film, it's just what it was meant to be.

must admit I went in with a very low expectation of anything good, but it's a hell of lot better than what critics/people are giving it.

yes exactly, don't listen to me, as you may hate the films I love, but it's better having your own opinion with actual evidence to back up your argument. there are many people who will say, oh I hate that film because...and then spout off a few reasons why...but one of my all time worst reasons for hating a film...is because ooh...this critic didn't like it...so I won't...;)

I've listened/read many reviews from professional/non-professional "critics" or "people" (as that's all they are really...people who get paid to watch films and then give their opinions on them...and then the "sheep" who listen to their every word do exactly what they say...:()

but what I mean is, just watch a film (or in some cases the trailer) and make your own mind up...sure, you can agree with a critic once you've seen the film...but don't just not bother because someone you know saw it and didn't like it. grrrrrr

talking of trailers...I hate the look of "Jumper" my uncle cracked me up by saying something like oh is that the sequel to "Cardigan" in his not so quiet voice :D but that's only the trailer it might turn out to be an amazing film...but I'm not putting any money on that...(it does have Rachel Bilson in it though :D)

You should check "King Kong" out. You'll just need to put three hours aside!! I had to split it into two viewings because I'm not so good with long films. Still, there was never a dull moment - I even liked the beginning, which apparently isn't very popular.

FOOKINELLLLLLL maybe that's that's the reason I've not seen it yet...3 hours is a long film...but it does look good...hmmm may have to put that on the list of things to watch soon...

as to Cloverfield,..hope you enjoy it, make sure to sit at least halfway back from the screen (so you can see the sides of it in your peripheral vision)

It's more like you hate the films that most other people like, and hate the people that most other people respect. It seems like a pose sometimes; like 'you are just saying that.'
maybe...maybe I just hate everything...no wait...I like boobies...can't complain about them...:D

Saw "Control" yesterday.

I thought it was really good, I'm not that familiar with Joy Division (I only know one or two songs), but even then, the story is really moving.
Loved the black and white.

Kubrick's 2001: A Space Odyssey

Last night, I watched Imagine You and Me on BBC2. A great film, I thought - genuinely touching. (Didn't they make a lovely couple?) Deserved a lot more stars than the Radio Times gave it.

Just caught the end of "Calender Girls" and, it has to said, the Mirren is still stonkingly sexy.

There. You may now agree or disagree as you see fit.

Well I'd have preferred if the thing was more an unseen thing with the occassional body part, not actually seeing the thing staring you in the face.

(you may want to grey that bit out ;))

but I quite liked that...as the first reviews/thoughts were that it wasn't in it at all, only a few seconds of it...which wouldn't have worked...

but for a relatively cheap film...they did a pretty decent job. (imagine if it cost more  :D)

Looking forward to seeing Cloverfield I think (i'm not too sure anymore...)
but I have to disagree with you on King Kong - what a HUGE pile of dung that film was!

Watched Eden last night - bizarre german film about a woman who fall sin love with a chef's cooking. Slow, brooding and sexy - good film :)

I went to the cinema to see Sweeney Todd on Saturday with mum and my sister, it was very good.. makes you realise (again) why the thing never really had that good a run in the theatre... the songs just aren't memorable enough... or there's no real stand out song that you have in your head for ages that everyone knows and affiliates with that musical. Anyway, I digress into the wonderful world of musical productions and I don't mean to!

Mr Depp was excellent as always, Helena Bonham Carter was FANTASTIC and thought she played Mrs Lovett excellently. Mmm meaty pies! haha!

Hmm; that's two yea votes for that one on this board. Maybe it's time for this yankee to see it.

As for me, I saw the film Facing The Giants at a friends house yesterday before seeing the Superbowl at another friend's house later. It's a movie funded and made by a Baptist church in Georgia. It's about a coach at a Christian School who learns to trust in God through crises about having a losing team and not being able to father a child. It is incredibly earnest and so reminds me of what Soviet films about Collective Farms or Red Army units in 'The Great Patriotic War' must have been like.

A short film called Penance. Katie-Jane should act in more short films, she's perfect

I wonder if it's any good, how can I not like a film that has a quote "He's the cheese to my macaroni" in it ?
