I liked the storyline, how people actually pay money to kill someone just to satisfy their urges. But after half an hour of tits at the beginning, I almost switched it off :(

The bit with the eyeball was gross :(

SPAAAAAAAAARRRRRRRRTTTTTTTAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA !

Saw 300 last night. I don't think I've ever been irritated by dialogue so much in my life - there was about half an hour of talking at the beginning and at the end of the film which was entirely boring and I found myself just thinking 'throw some more elephants of the cliff - it was good when you did that'.

I saw it on the HUGE screen at the IMAX though and had to laugh when Petridis was shot naked from behind: it's the biggest bottom I'd ever seen

Equilibrium

ok a bit derivative of Farenheit 451 (concepts) and The Matrix (style and execution) but I thought this was a decent film. why does sci-fi work best with a smaller budget? less special effects more story line/ideas I guess.....

yeah I remember that being good (can't really remember it that much though) It probably would have looked better if it was Samurai swords rather than guns, as I remember thinking the Posing with the guns just looked like they copied sword stances.....

but yeah wasn't it about emotion or something like that?

Magnolia started off quite good.....but then just got tedious and very very very very boring, and yeah Matrix and Equilibrium did have their similarities but quite different stories....(of course Matrix loses points for the last 2 films :() and Equilibrium gains points for a Taye Diggs de-facial samurai chop :D

I totally agree. I think they've cut out a couple of scenes at crucial points eg they seem to dock with Icarus 1 far quicker than previous scenes prepare you for - very irritating but a good film nevertheless.

'Casino Royale' - far-fetched and very enjoyable. Over two hours long and didn't drag at any point. Minus point if I had to name one would be the opening credits. They're stylish but there's nary a female in sight and the title song commits the cardinal sin of being entirely forgettable which for a Bond movie is unforgivable.

GATTACA, in school last week, what a great movie! I didn't like the ending tho, I can't believe he left Uma behind to go to space, he was rather obsessed with space tho, that was kinda the point tho wasn't it? being very driven and all that.

The Ring on BBC3 last night. I'd seen the Japanese original, but not the re-make, and was curious to see what Hollywood made of it. The original seemed very distinctively Japanese - and weird in a peculiarly Japanese way. (Hats off to the Japanese for preserving such a distinctive culture.) The Hollywood version is better than I expected and occasionally approaches the creepiness of the original.

'Borat - Cultural.....' on DVD. Okay but the gag works better as part of his TV show, that's to say shorter and mixed in with other characters. I laughed most of all at the extras. The 'cheese' one starts off funny, goes on to become unfunny then becomes funny again. And Sasha-Cohen almost starts laughing at one point in the cheese bit which is quite pleasing. :)

"The Lives of Others".

The recent Oscar winner for Foreign Language film, it's set in East Germany in 1984 and is about an officer in the Stasi who unwavering commitment to his work is challenged by what he encounters spying on some enemies of the state.

It's simply and compellingly told, has moments of humour and is hugely affecting. Thoroughly recommended.

Gattaca has to be one of my favourite films ever. Jude Law's great in it (‘My eyes are prettier than yours.’), he's really good at playing bitchy pretty boys (see also Wilde). And I love that stunning building they used as the location of the space centre. I think it's some kind of arts centre in California.

Watched a French film, The Beat That My Heart Skipped, at the weekend. Pretty good - it's about this guy who's involved in crime as a kind of enforcer for a slum landlord, who's given up a promising future as a pianist. He gets the chance to take it up again, but his criminal connections keep pulling him back. The lead actor, Romain Duris, is a bit of a hottie, all broody and enigmatic, in that way French guys so often are.

Watched La Reine Margot on DVD last night. Great film about the Huguenot (i've probably spelt that wrong) massacres in France in the 16th century, and the corrupt royals (especially the King's evil, scheming mother, Catherine de Medici) behind them. It's a really blood-spattered drama, quite over the top, but very good. Isabelle Adjani plays the title role, and I don't know how she does it, but she always looks fabulous, and really great for her age. The very lovely Vincent Perez is in it too, looking really sexy in (and especially out) of those period costumes.

I've had a Nicholson fest over the past two days. "One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest" yesterday (my favourite film) and "the Shining" today. Was seXXXeh.

I love that film and most certainly adore the gorgeous Ms Adajni.

Watched the DVD of Spiderman 2. The first time I've seen it since I saw it in the cinema and it doesn't improve with age/second viewing. A plodding screenplay, one dimensional character development and the romance between Peter Parker and MJ is just cringeworthy. Some good action sequences though.

I just hope Spiderman 3 is better.

(The first in the series was enjoyable, I have to say).

This Is A Shit Film......I mean....This Is England ;)

what a load of bollocks, terrible awful shit acting, apart from Stephen Graham who again puts in a great performance, it's just a shame it was in this pile-O-shite.

it begins with really bad acting starts to pick up when Stephen arrives onscreen but then never really goes anywhere, or does anything. just felt like it was made in a day.

A lot of people have had different thoughts about the film, some saying it was "Amazing" I fail to see that.

28 Weeks Later

Sooooo much better than the first film, (which I thought started off quite good but just went downhill from there on) this one starts off as it means to go on, which is always good for a Zombie style film, some very good jump-in-your-seat-not-because-it's-scary-as-you-know-it's-coming-but-it's-the-loud-noise-that-makes-flinch.....moments
(I think cineworld have there speakers way to loud sometimes, you know when it's so loud that it becomes inaudible, just a fuzz, and you're pulling a lemon sucking face, it was the same for This Is England)

anyway, If you liked the first film, you should Love this, unless you loved the first film....then you'll probably hate this. ;) (if that makes sense)

Went to a couple of previews of upcoming films over the weekend. Wedding Daze, which is a new rom-com with Jason Biggs from American Pie in it. It's a bit like American Pie in a way, but with less of the gross-out comedy (he doesn't shag any baked goods). Quite funny in parts, but a bit inconsistent. Isla Fisher's in it too (formerly of Home & Away and now Sacha Baron Cohen's girlfriend). I have to say, even speaking as someone the other way inclined, she is stunning-looking.

Then saw Shrek The Third on Sunday, which was good. I love it when Puss In Boots does his sad eyes. Think it should be the last though, they can only take it so far.

Touristas (stupidly re-titled to Paradise Lost here in the UK)

it's actually not a bad film, (not brilliant either though) there are some parts that are a bit silly but there is a great part in the film (I watched the Unrated version so it's probably not as good in the cut down version) but it's pretty well done, I won't spoil it for you though :D

it's worth seeing....just remember that it's not brilliant....acting is pretty good from most of the cast.

I enjoyed it anyway.....just love that scene :D

I really wanted him to let rip at the bloke in the last episode whose mum`s cat had been lost, but he didn`t, which was clever (if a little disappointing) I liked Magda, she was like a communist prophetess that only existed to drive Jack Dee mad. Went to see Pirates Of The Caribbean 3 at the weekend. It wasn't all that good though. Probably didn't help that I hadn't seen the second one, so I didn't always follow who'd double-crossed who and so on, but even so, it left me a little cold. I think a lot of the blame has to be laid at the feet of Keira Knightley and Orlando Bloom - they're both pretty, but neither of them's a very good actor. There was a bit too much CGI nonsense too. Nice costumes though.

I should have posted this when it was fresh in my mind, oh well.

Pirates Of The Caribbean At Worlds End..........

SHIT FILM (with a few really funny parts)
Keith Richards was actually bloody good as a pirate, for his ooh 20 seconds on screen.....(let's not forget the whole film is around 4 hours long.......sorry I mean feels around 4 hours long, it's actually about 2 hours and 30 minutes :()

plus halfway through I was thinking to myself.....it's nice to have a bit of imagination, but the writers only seem to have imagination, and no......flow, nothing really ever makes that much sense, things are done to make it look cool......but doesn't really work out that well, like the "Sun up. Sun Down" bit with the ship, pretty sure that could have been done a different way.

and way way way too many plot holes, I did like the Crabs though, they looked very cute (for crabs)

SPOILER

I a bit amazed at how the film starts, as you know there have been complaints about various horror films that have been coming out over the past few years, but they are certificate 18 films, so I don't see much of a problem with them, this film was a 12A, meaning older children can come and see it.....(And probably a few younger ones to....you know what some parents are like ;)) so the film starts off, people walking up to be hung in groups, you're thinking to yourself, oh something going to stop them from being hung.....nope.....ok....maybe the next group......nope......right....ok.....next group.....nope.....ah now they will it's a kid, and he's just singing.......... riiiiiiiiiight........ooh K that's odd for a 12A.......

then on comes the first fight scene, a bit shit really not much sword fighting mainly because the other guys have guns.....in comes that english bloke in black, he aims at someone.....bang.......a woman get's shot in the head......I was thinking to myself.....have they even watched the fucking film before they gave it a rating.....as many of you know I'm certainly not the squeamish type, that just got on my nerves a bit, it's a Disney Film after all. ;)

funny part

Tell No One.

A gripping French thriller, actually based on a novel by an American author - Harlan Corben. It centres around a widowed doctor who, 8 years after her death, receives an e-mail purporting to be from her. So begins a chain of events which keep you guessing until.....well, reasonably close to the end.

I'm glad that a Hollywood hack didn't get to make it first as this version has good characterisation and the story is allowed to develop without any over the top action scenes. There is one good chase scene that Hollywood would probably have cranked up to ludicrous extremes.

It's not perfect, but well worth seeing. Some good use of music too - Jeff Buckley singing "Lilac Wine" for example.

I saw a preview of this a few weeks back. Great movie. I'm glad Hollywood didn't get its hands on it too (although they may end up remaking it), it would have been predictable in Hollywood hands I reckon. And you know they'd just cast someone like Tom fucking Cruise in the lead role.

Last night the cat stepped on the remote and turned the tv on (at 3am/4am..), and I was too sick to get up and turn it off.. so I ended up watching some movie about sex addicts that was currently playing. It seemed like a real movie at first.. guy likes sex, guy buys lots of sex, guy obsesses over sex and finally gets caught by wife and I thought "heyyyy.. something interesting finally??"

Nope. They go to therapy and sex addict meetings.. then all the addicts ballroom dance and the wife let's the guy move back in.

I laughed outloud and thought "That wasn't a movie! That's one of those films they show you in school to scare you away from the "evils of sex"!" :p

Ah well.

Very spectacular scenes, very Keirafriendly, yet obvious they didn't know what to do anymore with some storylines and therefor killed people then. So many people died, what was that all about? :(

Oh my God. Amanda and I went to see 'Captivity' today. Take my advice and do not go and see it. We walked out. It was fucking SICK. They were trying to rip off 'Saw' a little bit, but it was basically just torture. We were gonna go when some girl was getting acid poured on her face, but then left when a guy was getting his teeth pulled out with pliers. Oh and some woman explaining to her kid about how she liked to abuse him or something. SICK SICK SICK. I was eating my popcorn and had to just leave cos I wanted to throw up. Just don't go see it. Two other girls walked out too.

I hate disgusting violent films like hostel, however I always seem let friends drag me to them nonetheless! I always just find myself trying to tolerate them rather than enjoying them, especially one time when they dragged me along to see wolf creek, i felt like getting sick throughout the whole thing...and then there was the time they dragged me to the passion of the christ ........ and, well i think everyone wished they had listened to me on that one, the entire thing was a pornography of violence :( ....worse than all movies mentioned above imho!!!
