Lies!

Being a huge fan of the video games, I found the movie to be hugely entertaining. It was very faithful to the games and the finale was pure Silent Hill-esque! I couldn't have asked for a better movie. Although, the nurse-scene wasn't scary at all cause I had read they were real people (dancers and such) and kept thinking about it, so it ruined the whole scene for me. And I wanted to see more of Pyramid head!!!!! Gimme!

The original is the ONLY one you should bother with. The remakes are utter travesties. Unusual trivia about the original - Tobe Hooper (who directed it) wanted the film to have a PG rating, so he filmed most of the violence as implied - there`s much less gore than you`d think. He also cut almost all the bad language. However, the censors were so horrified by the psychological effect of the final cut it got an "R" rating and was banned in nine countries including the UK, Ireland, Singapore and Iceland. At preview screenings, people were so terrified they actually became ill, and hundreds of people walked out before the end.

The guy who played the hitchhiker, Edwin Neal, said that filming "Texas Chainsaw Massacre" was even worse than his service in Vietnam, and if he ever saw director Tobe Hooper again he`d probably kill him.

And Leatherface wore platform heels to make himself look even taller than he actually was, to make him more scary (if that`s possible   )

I bought the original movie in hope to get a nice scary movie - I was in for a huge disappointment, really wasted my money there. It's so slow and incredibly boring - and for the last 30 minutes there's this woman screaming NON-STOP! I am not joking, she never shuts her trap! I just hated it.

I do want to see that movie. At the end of Downfall the woman who was actually Hitler's secretary referred to Ms. Scholl.

I have no idea if this film is available where you are, Glenn. But 'Bonhoeffer: Agent Of Grace' is a good look at the resistance to Hitler. Detreich Bonhoeffer was a Lutheren minister and theologian who became part of a plot to kill Hitler that was hidden inside the Abwher, the German counterintelligence agency. He was arrested and hanged by the Gestapo. But his ideas were a big influence on Martin Luther King.

Watched "For your Consideration" last night - directed by Christopher Guest who also did Best in Show and A Mighty Wind (and starred in Spinal Tap). Witty spoof film that takes the piss out of actors hoping to get nominated for an Oscar. Was suprised to see Ricky Gervais pop up in the middle too - playing pretty much as he always does, but funny all the same.

Went to see The History Boys last night, which was good. Pretty funny (Frances De La Tour's really good, as the very dry history teacher), and quite sad in places. Some good 80s songs on the soundtrack too, like The Cure's 'A Forest', although they only play the intros of most of them. Some of the early 80s fashions take me back to some of my elder brother's then wardrobe too, leather blousons with a buckle at the neck and all!

It is indeed an amazing film.

Watched the remake of The Omen last night and was really dissappointed. It's not a patch on the original although some of the effects are much better. But the original film really freaks me out and is genuinely quite physcologically scary. This film didn't have that feel at all, not helped by the fact the the new Damien is just too cute. Not like the original one, he was an evil bastard!

I've watched quite a few films recently. Whilst in America I sat and watched errrr.. Ring 2 (which, if not for Naomi would be appaaaaaalling!) Resident Evil 1 and 2 (I quite liked them!), Wolf Creek which freaked me out when we were later driving through all the forests and stuff...eeee, not nice. Eerrr what else...caught breakfast club on the tv whilst I was there, bring it on (aww Eliza!), we went to see Nightmare Before Christmas in 3D which was excellently done... I love that film!! Had a bit of a Sandy Bullock marathon and watched 28 days, 2 weeks notice and went to see infamous which is AMAZING... the story of Truman Capote writing In Cold Blood... I recommend going to see this to EVERYONE!! It was absolutley fantastic... bit morbid in places and a bit deep in others, had me crying anyway. If you're already depressed it might not be the best idea to go and see it... or if you want to stay in a particuarly happy mood... but it is excellently done.

There are two films about the exact same subject, the period of time when Truman Capote was working on his book In Cold Blood.
Capote, I believe, is more known than the other one, Infamous. (Probably due to the Oscar fuss). And, if I remember it right, Capote was released first.

It's quite weird tho, making two movies about the same topic around the same time, so I understand you're confused, jjj :p

What was number 1 scariest film ever? If it was anything other than halloween its lying because that film has shit me up for the rest of my life.

Yep, you've reminded me that I watched "Halloween: Resurrection" at the weekend. I'd forgotten already. It was that good. Hardly any Jamie Lee Curtis - it loses a few marks due to that.

Gorey deaths, running, screaming and that mask.

I could probably have predicted all that before I watched it ! :D

I'm soooo ready fro a bit of gore right now so I can't wait to see this film! (loved the other two)

What does clattier mean:confused:  If it means nasty, horrible and blood inducing then that can only be a good thing :)
Oh god, the other two don't even compare gore wise!! I kept telling myself that it wasn't real but it still had me cringing.

Favourite trap (and the creepiest) is definitely the one that involves the acid - won't give away any names to avoid spoilers - but that image is forever burned into my mind. :(

I saw it at the cinema last night, it was disgusting, it's not scary in the slightest and the twists are better disguised than those of Saw 2 I thought. Not recommended to ANYONE who has a delicate stomach. 'The Rack' is not for the faint hearted!! (the film was alright though!)

I went to a screening of the new Bond film, Casino Royale, on Friday. It's much better than the last one, really gritty and back to using real stunts instead of CGI. i thought daneil Craig makes a really good Bond, and Eva Green is good (and stunning looking) too as Vesper Lynd the Bond girl.

Sleepy Hollow (pale Johnny Depp = yummy)

I watched that on Saturday on telly too. That has to be one of my favourite films ever. I love when Ichabod is going into the witch's cave and hiding behind the boy servant. And Miranda Richardson's great - she's so good at playing psychos!

Saw "Borat" last night. Movie was great. The last time I laughed that hard was when I saw "Dumb & Dumber". I love movies that satirizes America's subversive culture. So sad how America has regressed rather than progressed over time. A beautifully fucked up culture.

Best scenes: nude fight, attempted kidnapping of Pamela Anderson and pissing off the American League of Feminists

I wonder what's next for Sacha Baron Cohen?

Saw III

I'm really not sure what I thought of it....

I wasn't affected by the "gore" in the least (I'm so decensortised), I did flinch when he injects himself (for the part that's before the start of the original), other than that it really didn't bother me.
I guess I liked the story, over all anyway. I liked the ending.
Not to sure about how obviously they set up Saw 4 though, I found that quite insulting.

I'm not a big fan of the cross fades with the cameras, as they pan from scene to scene, and the order the scenes go, and how the story developed seemed a little amature to me.

All in all, an alright one to kill a couple of hours with, but nothing standing out from the bunch.
I think some would dislike the gore, but I found it to be unrealistic and funny.
Some good special effects in parts though :D

I thought it was terrible to be honest, Saw is the best, then Saw II then Saw III, not enough of the Jigsaw doll either, that pissed me off a bit,

also the games, or should I say the Torture devices were not that great, and also the length of time it took the guy to think about wether or not to save the people in each room was quite annoying really....I was hoping that Shawnee Smith was going to be a better more evil Jigsaw, but no, it was good to find out a few things about her though, I won't spoil it for those who haven't seen it yet though....

Texas Chainsaw Massacre The Beginning was so much better, even just for R Lee, and we got the unedited version over here, the usa got loads cut out for some reason...

What do you do when everything is going against you?
1) go to the bar and sink a few whiskeys - yes he did that quite often
or
2) put on an angora sweater, fishnets and high heels (I've not tried this one myself but it seemed to work for Ed)

I just came back from the cinema where I went to see a new Irish film called 'A tiger's tale' WHAT A LOAD OF SHITE! I swear most Irish films are fucking terrible! Every now and again you'll get some fantastic ones but most of the time the directors don't have a clue! The plot of this sounded good - this guy was born years ago and had a twin he didn't know about in England and this guy started trying to ruin the other one's life etc, anyway, Kim Catrall, who I normally LOVE as Samantha from Sex and the city, couldn't do an Irish accent at all, it was dreadful, but you'd think the director would've noticed how bad it was and left her as an American - it would've worked much better! And when you're in a hospital waiting room in this country, you'll get an odd person who'll be rowdy etc, but in this he had everyone vomiting, fighting and getting thrown out of places etc - it was disgraceful!

Irreversible.

Probably one of the most disturbing films I've ever watched. The first twenty five mintues are like having a really really bad trip and ends with the most horrific killing, and the film also features the most brutal rape that I have ever seen. Totally shocking and almost unwatchable.

That said it is a very good film, and as the narrative is played out backwards it has a happy ending - and as the film goes backwards you understand why the guy who was killed got what was coming to him. It also has a mental soundtrack by Daft Punk's Thomas Bangleter which at times totally adds to the horror.

NB having watched the last scene you can totally see where Kylie nicked her video idea for "Slow" (the one where she's writhing around on a towel) - it's practically lifted out of this film!

Watched C.R.A.Z.Y. last night.

Sex, drugs and Patsy Cline.

Great French film about a guy's coming of age in the 70's/80's and soooo stylish it hurts! Amazing soundtrack too. Can't recommend enough!

I haven't seen it yet, but my mates it's a great movie
oh, and it's Canadian, by the way

Irreversible.

The first time I watched it I just couldn't decide whether I liked it or not. It was too disturbing... I had to wait several years to be in the mood to watch it again... and I loved it. The actors, the direction, the music, the lights...... The atmosphere!

Oh and I had never thought about the connexion between Irreversible and K. Minogue...! I know what you mean, but still.........

Anyway, I watched Babel a couple of days ago. I found it slightly too long, but I loved it. Very well directed, good actors... and it's nice to watch a movie with such different languages and cultures in it

Aah French Canadian I take it........so I was kind of half right!?

I'm serious!!! Just watch that end scene again - the weird way the camera pans up from the floor - the saturated colours, the semi-clad men, the way the character is clutching her towel and moving around - I tell you, Kylie's director lifted it!! (hmm I wonder if it is the same director???)

It also shows the horror, futility and tragedy of revenge and undermines every cheap movie that utilises these themes.

Gaspar Noe, the director, also made a film called Seule Contre Tous before this and contributes to the film, Destricted, I described here back in August which incredibly is now out on DVD. I met him, after the Edinburgh Film Festival premier of Irreversible a couple of years ago. Despite making such dark films, he's a friendly, cheery guy!

It's released in the UK this Friday - hopefully with a decent distribution.

I was in London at the end of last week and went to see:

"The Prestige": Christopher Nolan's latest (he did Memento amongst other films). Like Memento, it really breaks up the narrative and you have to concentrate to follow it, but it's good fun.

"The Page Turner": a French film about a young woman who finds herself working for a famous pianist who years before, ruined her attempt to pass a piano test. Does she take the opportunity to get revenge? It's not giving away anything to say that she does. It's the way she does it that's so compelling.

What is it about revenge movies that are so irresistable? Despite the lessons of Irreversible?

On Film4, in an hour or so, is Night Watch (Nochnoi Dozor), the first part in the Russian fantasy trilogy set in modern day Moscow where the forces that control night and day do battle with each other.

So, UK digital Frappers, watch or tape it too !

Saw James Bond. Jesus H. Christ (not sure what the H is for) I'm in love. I'm not usually into the whole blue eyed blond haired thing BUT there is SOMETHING about James in this film that just works in every way.

Saw Borat too, the naked scene had me in stitches (and had most of the men in the audience screaming in terror....it was great).

and no Tribute was a bit of a shame, I think that would have ended the film nicely, as they did do a lead up to it........oh well

The girl+coach death did startle me - but I sorta kinda seen it coming. It just happened so quickly!!
