Ooooh, a 4Hero mention ! Nice one Softie...
I've a limited endurance for D&B which pretty much extends only as far as 4Hero & LTJ Bukem, primarily because they believe in melody and using the racy rhythms of D&B in a subtle way.

..........Paddy McGinty's Goat' - Val Doonican...........

Mister Patrick McGinty, an Irishman of note,
Came into a fortune, so bought himself a goat.
Said he, "Sure, of goat's milk I mean to have my fill!"
But when he got his Nanny home, he found it was a Bill.

And now all the ladies who live in Killaloo
Are all wearing bustles like their mothers used to do.
They each wear a bolster beneath the petticoat,
And leave the rest to Providence and Paddy McGinty's goat!

Missis Burke to her daughter said, "Listen, Mary Jane, .
Now who was the man you were cuddling in the lane?
He'd long wiry whiskers all hanging from his chin."
"Twas only Pat McGinty's goat, " she answer'd with a grin.

Then she went away from the village in disgrace,
She came back with powder and paint upon her face.
She'd rings on her fingers, and she wore a sable coat,
You bet your life they never came from Paddy McGinty's goat.

Little Norah McCarthy the knot was going to tie,
She washed all her trousseau and hung it out to dry.
Then up came the goat and he saw the bits of white:
He chewed up all her falderals, and on her wedding night:

"Oh turn out the gas quick!" she shouted out to Pat,
For though l'm your bride, sure l'm not worth looking at.
I'd got two of ev'rything, I told you when I wrote,
But now I've one of nothing, all thro' Paddy McGinty's goat.'

Mickey Riley he went to the races t'other day.
He won twenty dollars and shouted, "Hip Hooray!!"
He held up the note, shouting "Look what I've got!"
The goat came up and grabbed at it and swallowed all the lot.

"He's eaten my banknote," said Mickey, with the hump.
They ran for the doctor, he brought a stomach pump.
He pumped and he pumped for that twenty dollar note,
But all he got was ninepence out of Paddy McGinty's goat.

Now old Paddy's Goat had a wonderous appetite,
and one day for breakfast he ate some dynamite.
A whole box of matches he swallowed all serene
and then he went and gobbled up a quart of paraffin.

He sat by the fireside, he didn't give a hang,
swallowed a spark and exploded and exploded with a bang.
SO if you go to heaven you can bet a dollar note....
that the Angel with the whiskers on is Paddy McGinty's Goat.

The album "Framed" by The Sensational Alex Harvey Band.
Midnight Moses is currently playing.

It's 25 years today since Alex Harvey died and he certainly wont be forgotten. A brilliant performer and although the band's music was blues-based rock, he was incredibly eclectic in many of the songs he covered - Lieber and Stoller, Tom Jones, Jacques Brel and The Osmonds! Truly, one of a kind.

If anyone hasn't seen the band's performance of Brel's "Next" on the Old Grey Whistle Test in 1973, I urge you to see it (it's on one of the compilation DVDs). Perhaps someone's put it up on YouTube.

Yes, I remember that and I noted that they didn't show all the episodes that were first shown a few years ago ( I made a 3 hour compilation tape at the time, which included Alex Harvey).

Wow, when did this happen? I think Trent's vocals probably would have sounded better. Peter's voice is just too *goth* for this song, sort of sounds bizarre.

I used to love James. One of my favourite Manchester bands. I saw their 'last ever gig' as well - imagine how pissed off I was last month when they announced a come back tour.

Me, now:

'Please, Please, Please, Let Me Get What I Want' by The Smiths - I can't get it out of my head because the Decemberists covered it last night. "Haven't had a dream in a long time" is one of the most tragic lyrics ever.

It`s on order :( and it may be deleted :( :( :(

I suppose it`s too much to hope that it`ll be on ITunes - there`s so much stuff I want that isn`t on there, like Ten Benson and The Lotus Eaters.

I might go to my brother`s shop. I bet he`ll say "God, that`s a shit album" like he always does when I go in and ask for something. His comment on "Felt Mountain"? "John Barry would be turning in his fucking grave. If he was dead, like. You should buy this Andy Votel compilation and start listening to that. (waves CD in my face)" And do I ever get any discount? Nope. His comment on Black Cherry? "Well, it`s all right, but Alison Goldfrapp`s such a miserable cow. She was in here the other day, stood around frowning like someone had pissed on her chips. That guy who`s in em, he`s all right though. He even bought something. Makes a change from Shaun Ryder, who always comes in for coffee and never pays."

Philip Glass--Pruit Igoe

Pruitt-Igoe
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Pruitt-Igoe complex in the U.S. city of St. Louis included over two thousand public housing units from the 1950s until the destruction of the complex in 1972.The Pruitt-Igoe housing project, built in St. Louis, Missouri, USA, has been regarded as one of the most infamous failures of public housing in American history.

Designed in 1951 by architect Minoru Yamasaki (who would later design the World Trade Center), the complex was named for St. Louisans Wendell O. Pruitt, an African-American fighter pilot in World War II, and William L. Igoe, a former representative in Congress. Originally, the city planned two partitions: Pruitt for black residents, and Igoe for whites. After this type of segregation was ruled unconstitutional, the project was integrated at its opening.

A building in the Pruitt-Igoe housing development collapses during its demolition. It consisted of 33 11-story apartment buildings on a 57 acre (23 hectare) site on St. Louis's lower north side, bounded by Cass Avenue on the north, N. Jefferson Avenue on the west, MLK Drive on the south, and N. 20th Street on the east. The complex totaled 2,870 apartments, and was completed in five years. Prior to the project's construction, the land was known as the De Soto-Carr neighborhood, an extremely poor section of St. Louis. The project was commissioned as part of the post-WWII federal housing program, as an attempt to bring people back to the city. Within a few years it was heavily vandalized and quickly fell into disrepair and disuse.

Many of the architectural design elements of Pruitt-Igoe, such as its galleries and "skip-stop" elevators (which stopped only at the first, fourth, seventh, and tenth floors in an attempt to lessen congestion), turned out to be at best inconveniences and at worst facilitated crime. The buildings remained largely vacant for years, and after several failed attempts to rehabilitate the area the St. Louis Housing Authority began demolition of the complex on March 16, 1972.

Communal spaces in the Pruitt-Igoe housing development accumulated graffiti and fell into disrepair.Critics have cited the failure of Pruitt-Igoe as an example of how planned urban communities often fail. The complex had been designed as an attempt to emulate the public housing projects in New York City, but with little regard for the vast difference in economies and population distributions in the two cities. The reasons for the failure of Pruitt-Igoe are complicated. Although Yamasaki's design usually takes most of the blame, in reality the sharp decline of St. Louis as residents left for the suburbs and the financial drain of the Vietnam War both played a role in the project's failure.

Some of the original plans for the buildings, such as playgrounds and gardens, proved too expensive and were never added.

Today, the site of the former projects is empty, with only trees and dusty paths marking the spot. Many plans for development of the area have been suggested, but none has been carried out; among other reasons, the removal of Pruitt-Igoe's concrete foundations, which are still buried, would be very expensive.

Footage of the demolition of Pruitt-Igoe was incorporated into the film Koyaanisqatsi.

Jimmy Webb knew how to write a song. And the bassist on that song was a woman, in a time when lady session players were as rare as hen's teeth.

Bjork - Medulla

Difficult.

I concur completely.

I'd say initially difficult but rewarding long term......

The Fall
"Fall Sound"

20+ albums and 30+ years in and they're still great and vital as anything. On this track they seem have invented Krautrockabilly, with a great pop at their copyists too:-

"It's a scream for help
Less desperate
It's a Fall sound!
But you're much too late
For a Fall sound!":D

Mark E Smith at 50yrs of age still > most others.....

COH: LOVE UNCUT
Released by Eskaton Cat No: 33. CD mini album, 21.22 mins.
Featuring contributions from Frankie Gothard, Stephen Thrower, Peter Christopherson, Louise Weasel and Jhonn Balance.

Track listing: My Angel / FFFetish / Prayer for Russell / Health and Deficiency: Love's Septic Domain. This is, without doubt, one of the scariest things I own and yet it's also liable to drag you in like a black hole. Quiet insistent electronica, cut-ups, heavy studio treatments, spoken word, feedback, screams, pulses, psychotic outbursts and in the last part (Health & Deficiency) a track that sent the late Jhonn Balance mad, literally, for a month after making it.

Anybody who loved Throbbing Gristle or Coil should apply within.....
