Is that Porcupine Tree with the Richard Barbieri Ex - Japan connections??
The very same. Their earlier albums were very prog rock, but the albums "Stupid Dream" and "Lightbulb Sun" are much more song-based, and there's some beautiful stuff on them.

Hey there Durham, the cover version of 'All You Need is Love' is on the 2003 reissue of Ocean Rain as a bonus track. Yahoo music are using all of the reissues as the versions they play. Any fans of MyBloodyValentine should definately check this out. He's a one mand electronica guy who's decided to take up the guitar and rock out. Woohoo! a top dollar song from possibly the best Yes album. I love this group, I don't care what people have to say about them. Yes, they are often pompous and overblown, but they often reach heights that not many other bands can achieve. I like to think of them as a Pink Floyd that's actually fun to listen to. Awww, actually that's bollocks, Pink Floyd are great, but they do take themselves awfully seriously, and I don't listen to them when i want to listen to music that takes me to another transcendent level, although I'm specfically talking about 70's Pink Floyd here, not the late 60's stuff, which really is trippy and amazingly out there. Yes on the other hand, are just immense fun, even if they think they're being serious at the same time!
It's well worth getting the 2 "Keys To Ascension" live and studio double cds too - bloomin' great live sound for blokes in their fifties.

my pleasure, diamente. i'm just glad to turn someone on to a good track. and me a genius? i think not. i just know a good song when i hear one, and it IS cocteau twins, afterall. i don't think i could recommend a bad song by them. well, there are a few that i'm not that fond of or that are a bit "light", but even those are still prett good. the thing i love about this song is how serene it is. it has a really still quality to it. yet, it still has this ominous undercurrent in it. i think it's in the drums. such a cool song. have you heard "sugar hiccup" yet? if not, run out and find it. there are few different versions. my favorite is the versions on the BBC sessions double disc. such a cool cool song. anyway, let me know what you think of the other stuff i recommended, as you find it. i'd love to hear what you think. i'm not sure if you've heard some of their latter work, yet. it gets a little fluffy and light, but a lot of it is still pretty good. anyway, right now i'm listening to "heart failed" by saint etienne.

I can safely say EvilPink you have the scariest listening selection on this board!! (and that's not an insult!) :)
Now:
Just getting Mansun - Attack of the Grey Lantern out ...due to another thead!!

Elska, What Love album is 'Five String Serenade' on - Mazzy Star do a cover of it and its great, I'd 'Love' to hear the original.
Right now:
Selfish Cunt - Authority Confrontation
They're actually really good.
Well, I don't have it myself, but according to allmusic.com, there's an album called Five String Serenade (released as Arthur Lee & Love, in 2002), but I guess the track is not on any of the "main" Love albums. I've no idea where that 2002 album is released, though.
Now listening to Maybe the People Would be the Times or Between Clark and Hilldale (what a name, eh?), still on Forever Changes.

Forever Changes is one of the ultimate summer albums! The first time i heard it was on a lovely June day about four years ago, and listening to it always reminds me of that summer. I actually borrowed the recent live rendition of the album yesterday from my library but i havent listened to it yet. 'The Red Telephone' is one of the most amazing songs ever!
Listening to Kaleidoscope by Siouxsie and the Banshees. A top class album.

Secondhand Daylight by Magazine. Unbelievable album! There's so much incredible stuff on here, i recommend it to everyone. If anyone here's heard 'Back to Nature' by Magazine, then you'll know what I'm talking about. When that song kicks off, there's not much else that's as extraordinary as it. and what is it with some post punk, late 70's and early 80s music and its penchant for really funny, squelchy, moody sounding fretless bass playing? Mick Karn from Japan cant get enough of it, and Barry Adamson from Magazine doesn't seem to play anything else. Sounds halfway amazing, halfway hilarious.
Blimey, the song 'Cut Out Shapes' is one of the best things I've ever heard. It's like a funk tune slowed down and given scary treatment. There's a bit halfway through that is hands down one of the most incredible moments i've ever heard in a song, the song just slows down to a drum roll and then it just explodes into this twisted funk music that's mindblowing. Fuck, Magazine were incredible, I'm so glad i got into them!
Anyhoo, I'm rambling, but this album's sooo good, I just had to say it! Maybe not the best introduction to the group (definitely the 'Rays and Hail' best of, or The Correct Use of Soap, which is their most accessible LP), cos it's really dark.
EDIT: And now I'm listening to the lovely, lovely, LOVELY 'Orange Appled' by the Cocteau Twins, from the Love's Easy Tears EP.

I could never really get into that album as a whole, about half of it doesnt really grab me, but there are moments of utter genius on it: I love 'Fame' and 'Fascination', and yes, 'Win'. What a song! Definitely one of his best ever, it's so lush and smooth, and to think that he really was close to death at this stage (he doesn't even remember making the Station to Station album, and that's probably my fave of his!).
Yeah, 'Win', peachy song. If i was at home (i'm at my sis and brother in laws) right now, i'd go and play it! Really want to hear it again now!
