"Second and Last, But Not Always"
from 'Red Flags'

I often post on this thread but this time you can see AND hear it for yourself. Twin lead band from Gothenburg, Sweden. I'd describe them as somewhere between The Gathering and Katatonia and I love Emma Hellström's voice rather large amounts. This is the first single from their fourth album......

If you liked the previous then try this from the album before.

You have to like lyrics which include "You look so pretty with that gun in your mouth" and leave you in no doubt what follows by later following it with "I never meant for the window to get stained, but the scarlet sure looks catching in the sun...."

I didn't realise - sorry !

I'm not a big fan of YouTube as most vids are small and very atrocious quality. Take the two I posted - one is pefect and the other is a bit rough. If there was a better way I'd certainly list that in preference.....

Pink Floyd--The Gunners Dream

The Gunner's Dream (Waters)

Floating down through the clouds
Memories come rushing up to meet me now.
In the space between the heavens
and in the corner of some foreign field
I had a dream.
I had a dream.

Good-bye Max.
Good-bye Ma.
After the service when you're walking slowly to the car
And the silver in her hair shines in the cold November air
You hear the tolling bell
And touch the silk in your lapel
And as the tear drops rise to meet the comfort of the band
You take her frail hand
And hold on to the dream.

A place to stay
("Oi! A real one ..." )
Enough to eat
Somewhere old heroes shuffle safely down the street
Where you can speak out loud
About your doubts and fears
And what's more no-one ever disappears
You never hear their standard issue kicking in your door.
You can relax on both sides of the tracks
And maniacs don't blow holes in bandsmen by remote control
And everyone has recourse to the law
And no-one kills the children anymore.
And no one kills the children anymore.

Night after night
Going round and round my brain
His dream is driving me insane.

In the corner of some foreign field
The gunner sleeps tonight.
What's done is done.
We cannot just write off his final scene.
Take heed of his dream.
Take heed.

The album should be on my doorstep probably tomorrow so I'll report back but from various samples and sneaky d/l's I think it's mostly very much the same, except with a few tracks being a little more either poppy or more 'indie'. I'm actually not so surprised they got Ulrich Schnauss to mix one of the HB tracks as there is a bit of a shoegazing feel to some of the tracks on this. There's some belters on there too - that's for sure.

It should be sitting on my doormat either when I get in tonight or tomorrow.

It's who HB were when they were back in Aus - when they moved here they changed one member and hit the floor running somewhat !

The album is called "I'm Already Home" and it's very much HB in style with a mixture of quieter and grungier tracks - very good though and you couldn't really mistake it for being anybody else - there's some belters on there too !

Finally listening to the compilation Carpy sent me in the post.

There's some long songs on here, it's good, but it's like punk rock never happened!

Which one was that, Trembler ? Was that the electronica one ?? If so then that was the mood I was in at the time - long songs that either do nothing beautifully (tm John Peel) or take time to grow and morph. Shorter tracks are ok but I do like things I can get my musical teeth into.

If it wasn't the electronica one ("Compilation One" ?) then the above still holds true but wasn't needed ! :D

"First Time"

Currently getting through the album for the first time on headphones and finding it even better still. Some of the production is quite amazing and stuff like the oboe sound in the track above, tucked away in amongst the hard synths, is pure genius.

God, how good !

Two whole versions of the album (Remastered UK & original USA remixed version), live tracks, demo versions, Radio 1 session recordings AND a 2hr DVD including live, studio and video footage, an interview and a short film. All packed with two mini booklets and a nice fold-out case. All for just £13 Earth quids !!

For once one of my favourite albums ever gets even better - listening to these really makes you realise just how dad-rock they became - where the fuck did all that passion and intellect go !!

This is on a compilation someone made for me. I wonder where she got it - it sounds like it was recorded directly off the radio in the days when Radio 1 was medium wave only! Probably just a bad MP3. It sounds fantastic though - it really thumps, to make up for the lack of treble.

Panic Meat Screechers
"The Intense Humming of Evil"
from 'The Holy Bible - 10th Anniversary Edition'

One of my favourite tracks of all time. Just so powerful........

The court has come.
The court of the Nations and into the courtroom will come
the martyrs of Majdanek and Oswiecim.
From the ditch of Kerch the dead will rise,
they will arise from the graves,
they will arise from flames bringing with them the acrid smoke
and the deathly odour of scorched and martyred Europe.
And the children they too will come, stern and merciless.
The butchers had no pity on them.
Now the victims will judge the butchers.
Today the tear of the child is the judge.
The grief of the mother is the prosecutor.

You were what you were
Clean cut, unbecoming
Recreation for the masses
You always mistook fists for flowers

Welcome welcome soldier smiling
Funeral march for agony's last edge
6 Million screaming souls
Maybe misery - maybe nothing at all
Lives that wouldn't have changed a thing
Never counted - never mattered - never be

Arbeit macht frei
Transports of invalids
Hartheim Castle breathes us in
In block 5 we worship malaria
Lagerstrasse, poplar trees
Beauty lost, dignity gone
Rascher surveys us butcher bacteria

Welcome welcome soldier smiling
Soon infected, nails broken, hunger's a word
6 Million screaming souls
Maybe misery - maybe nothing at all
Lives that wouldn't have changed a thing
Never counted - never mattered - never be

Drink it away, every tear is false
Churchill no different
Wished the workers bled to a machine

A huuuuuuuge glacier of a chorus with the coldest of riffs and the play-out drums are some of the best Banshees-a-like ever............top top top.....

Indeedy !

I was reading that many think this album is a glimpse into what was in Richeys head leading up to him vanishing the year after. He wrote about 70% of the lyrics for it and was getting through reading five books a week at the same time. Some tracks got up to about 20+ rewrites before he was happy with them and all the tracks in some way relate to the others on there.

When you read the subject matter (the holocaust, body fascism & anorexia, drug usage, the failure of white America to it's responsibilities, political naivety & spin, philosophy and even abortion & pro-life issues) you get to realise he must have been imploding mentally - that's quite some heavy shit to try to disassemble and reform into lyrics in one hit.

He's still just "out there somewhere" as far as I know - I'm sure we'd have heard otherwise. I guess he's out riding Shergar at Lord Lucans house.

edit: just read that "According to James Dean Bradfield one quarter of all the performing rights for the Manic Street Preachers songs are kept for Edwards should he return." Awwww. Bless.

Yeah, it's packed full of goodies - so glad it has the Top of the Pops "Faster" performance - that got 25,000 complaints when first shown due to the IRA style balaclava mask that JDB was wearing :D

Also, the band thought that a number of the US track mixes were possibly better than the UK release so it's worth giving both album discs a spin. That version only got released in Canada and never ended up going out in the USA.......
