Hey, you crazy musical kids, have a track from this album.
It's a truly awesome drone piece, both utterly beautiful & deeply scary.
If you've never heard an electroacoustic drone undulating and reverberating then you're missing out.
Grab it, play it loud and feel the furniture vibrate.

"Nyala - Fourth Section"
from 'em:t 1196'
One final link for the night before I turn in. This is the fourth part of a four part piece. It's made from sound manipulation and treatment and is, I have to admit, one of my favourite pieces of music ever.
It'll sound a bit wonky first time through but after a spin or two it'll click (I hope) and whilst you'll never find yourself singing along it does sink in somewhat.

You'll note it's another em:t (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Em:t) label thing from me. Let that be a hint as to something for you to search out if you like your music to challenge you !

:)Finally got the new Bent album and I love it - there's some genius tracks on there:)
mmmm..... I'm the biggest Bent fan i know but i can't help thinking they can't make up their minds what they are at the moment.
Tracks like Tired of the Show and Waiting for You, in my opinon just don't work. Where as classic Bent 'lounge-trip' tracks like Stay out all Night and 80's synth bass tracks like Exercise 7 and Leavin' Me work so much better. Maybe they should stick to what they are good at (nobody does it better!). It's a shame as they left a great Cathey Davey track off the album and as much a i like d Simian i don't think Mr Lord's voice suits Bent!
It's still good though but, as they know form meeting me, i'm very critical of the bands I love!!
me: (What Bent need to listen to to get back on track!!)
Margo Guryan - Take a picture
(a lost classic from 1968 discovered thanks to Andy Votel!!)
Scott Mathews - Elusive
Very similar to Jeff Buckley for anyone who's interested, he's very much worth a listen :D
The Secret Hairdresser - Verse, Chorus, Miaow
Lot's of miaows :D
Goldfrapp - You Never Know (Múm Remix)

Whilst it doesn't compare to Programmed to Love at all, I do think there's some choice tracks on this new album, some of them real growers - hmmmm but I have to disagree with on Waiting For You - it's a great track! (But you're right about Tired of the song.....er show.) I really love To Be Loved as well, but I detested that track when I first heard it and as for Stay Out all NIght and Leavin' Me - classic Bent :)

International Peoples Gang
"Nine Churchill Drive"
from 'em:t 3395'
The phrases "small world" and "degrees of seperation" come to mind at the moment.
I'm listening away to this gem which I bought back in '95 when it came out (the clue is in the album title !) and loving it as much as ever. how can you not love tracks like this where a dubby groove gets peppered with ambient washes, car-horns, vocal samples and bagpipes !! 11 years since release and still a top album. I rave on about the em:t label a lot on here recently and decided to go and see if it was just me.
Was reading through some of the reviews and spotted this:-
A handful of labels are responsible for a great wealth of ambient electronic music but the em:t series of releases has been one of the most prolific; marking the genre with an unparalleled consistency.
With the sudden demise of t:me recording ltd in the late 90s, the ambient community was stripped of an essential resource but in 2003 the philosophy was resurrected as em:t records. Now at its second compilation since, em:t is proving to be a label of essential releases.
Brilliantly, the albums sound harkens back to the very era from which it was born. The style of ambient is just the sort of thing you'd hear on Rising High or Appollo records back in the 90s or perhaps some ambient trance or even the more dubby psy-trance (ala Shpongle). While decidely ambient, the music is still rhythmic enough to captivate your interest. The album is engaging and really shows the effort that went into this release.
So, you never hear of a band ever then shortly after the highlighted person joins this very place I spot it in a review. Spooky ?!

"Road Trip To Tokyo"
from 'em:t 0005'
Another em:t album finds it's way onto my Zen and another cracker finds it's way into my ears ! Dark and brooding ambi-tronica finds itself mixed with live instruments, resulting in a wonderful head road-trip. Dubby, bleepy, swirling and atmospheric in all the right measures - imagine FSOL jamming with Vangelis in a zero-gravity chamber on Venus.....that would be close !
One of the trio is actually Gel-Sol, as some of you (including 1Bruce) may recognise from the previously posted free album on here. This, though, is much deeper, darker and natural with some bass even sounding Karn-esque in it's fluidity.
Really, if you like ambient, electronica or left-field stuff anything on em:t is a safe bet.....if you can find them !!

That bus is a mental asylum on wheels. I get the 192 to work but never back, it`s far too dangerous in the evening (or any time after 8.45am for that matter) I remember once some kids got on in Ardwick and proceeded to destroy every seat in the back five rows, they had hammers and everything. The driver told us all to get off so we did, and the last thing I saw was them trying to set fire to it. I didn`t hang around till the police turned up, I can`t waste forty-eight hours for them to send a Special Constable who failed GCSE English and looks half my age. Why is it that policemen look so young now that I`m in my thirties? They`re so pretty as well..... when did THAT happen?

I've got that bus back at all times of the night. It's not that bad. The bus stop outside the Spar where you pick it up in town is scarier at night.
Besides, I used to be a regular on the 86 route in Liverpool - that'll toughen you up for anything.

I lived in Wavertree. You really have to brace yourself on that bus, especially on the leg that goes through 'Toccy'. I got punched in the back of the head once which was more confusing than anything.
But no, you can't get on that bus without somebody on it not being normal.

A niece that was over from Eire got attacked in town about 2 years ago and within the last 18 months my nephew who lives in Liverpool had his ipod stolen by a group of five scumbags on a bus.
On my last two trips back to Liverpool I had someone walk across my car roof leaving dents in it when it was parked just off Smithdown and most recently had the windscreen kicked in and the rear wiper pulled off in Garston. Needless to say as I get older my natural inclination to talk up my hometown is getting less and less.......

It`s so true. I find it so difficult to reconcile the sweeping euphoria of "Party Fears Two" with the broken, desperately unhappy man that went into his garden shed and hung himself. I haven`t heard "Say" before, I`d like to hear it!

That`s absolutely right! You can pick out everything, it really is like they`re in the room with you doing their individual little bits. "Blood Is Climbing" (which is on now) has that cut-diamond orchestral quality of the first This Mortal Coil album but seems to have even more depth to it somehow. It reminds me of producers in the 1980s who did the same thing with pop music, like David Motion and Trevor Horn.
