Although I really do enjoy this mix, Ratatat was horrid on stage opening for Goldfrapp. They were basically two guys drinking beer and having a chat on stage whilst playing CD's. Plus the music they were playing was indeed testing our patience. Not a good opener at ALL.

There`s a lot of that about at the moment. They just arse around, don`t they, as though they`re saying "Oh, look at all these people with crappy jobs and meaningless careers working flat out to earn £22, 000 a year and we can be as shit as we like playing tepid remixes of songs that weren`t that good to start with, and we don`t even get out of bed for less than £750 a day. Let`s light another joint and enjoy this pleasant tingly feeling of superiority even though we`ve been wearing the same pair of underpants for two weeks and our armpits smell like an old Holland`s pie."

Pull your fingers out, dickfaces!

The best SYL (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Strapping_Young_Lad) place to start is with the "City" album (especially the amazing "Detox" track) and if you want a Devin Townsend Band (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Devin_Townsend_Band)one go for "Terria", "Accelerated Evolution" or "Synchestra" - they're all equally good.

Very much so - try this for size:-

Yup exactly. They were up there for over an hour and people were getting pissed off. It was actually a bit comical, they were getting booed and people started throwing rolled up paper at them. When a roadie came on stage and started pointing at his watch......everyone started cheering.

Is that the one where the monster comes out of the telly on a rubbish heap and scares a granny? God, I dropped a load into my gusset when I saw that!!

The other one for "Windowlicker" is pretty scary too, where those two idiots get the boot from some "ho`s" at the roadside and see a woman from the back on rollerskates, and she looks really fit so they follow her, except when she turns round....

When we had cable television Aphex Twin videos always seemed to be on at night on MTV2. Spooky when everyone else had gone to bed or was out.

I think the instrumental piece you`re thinking of might be on "Drukq" which has got some really beautiful pieces on (along with buttock-shuddering scary stuff too) my favourite is "Jynweythek Ylow" which sounds like it`s played entirely on mediaeval instruments. Gorgeous.

I also had an acid house record that had this woman on it saying "Darling come here/ F**k me up the rear" :D but that seems to have vanished.

Oh, well spotted!!! :) it`s probably not the best capture but I think she looks properly evil in it! I love that video. One of my friends used to say it was very Aldous Huxley.

It`s impossible to listen to "Come On My Selecter" and have a wee at the same time. I`ve tried.

agree to the hilt!!!!!

and also as you say, the whole name Low freq osc, is true.
i took this cd to the shop where i bought my celestions(good speakers) for the home hi fi, specifically to test the speakers really low end depth.

they was good, i bought them, and then found they have a 'long throw bass driver' in them?
but the bloke in the shop was gobsmacked at the bass in this cd, and asked who it was etc etc:D

awesome cd.
got it from amazon!! about 5 years back, after only knowing the LFO single.
id advise you to get the complete cd(if you haven't already)

was massively into acid house, raves etc 89-92, so i have a few nice 12's and loads of london taped pirate shows.
I have a gorgeous one-sided DJ black label by Baby Ford - one side is the track, "Oochy Koochy (F.U. Baby Yeh Yeh)", and the other side has writing and pictures etched into it by the band.

The bass is so deep and hard on it that it was renowned for blowing out club sound systems and eventually it got so notorious that people wouldn't play it ! :D

This was the original release of the VERY bass heavy mix of Oochy Koochy.
Sticker on sleeve states:-
"Rhythm King would like to warn you that consistent loud volume play of this record may damage your stereo. Do not set levels to maximum."

B side consists of two tracks. One is saying "Thank you ladies and gentlemen, thank you, and thank you very much", followed by some silence. The stylus then jumps into a locked groove silent track.

The rest of the B side features some lovely etching in the vinyl:-
"MAAM THATS A WEIRD TRIP. YOU AIN'T YET SEEN NEXT YA KNOW TWO FAT LADYS ARE REACHIN TO PULL YA OUT BY THE GUT. MAN YOU THINK I HOPE THE WHOLE WORLD DON'T STINK LIKE THIS BUT THATS THE SCENE YOU JUST ENTERED INTO THE WICKED WIDE WORLD. OOCHY COOCHY. F.U. BABE "YEAH, YEAH" .. R" LOVE CHILD INC.. SLAPPERMIX. LOVE FORDI. P.F. FORD + ELECTRIC GIRL.. X.S. LOVE. LOVE CHILD INC *"
It's a thing of quite some beauty !

I've got loads of the "House Sounds" on vinyl, some on import from their release. As "the kids" discovered white gloves and Vick here I was already onto the heavy acid end that was verging into really dark proto-trance. I remember even Peel playing some really nasty stuff.

"10101"

Another Holden mention from me and another quite remarkable track from him.

Deep melancholic slides and sweeps wrap around a hard glitch-tech rhythm set. Has the man/machine interface ever sounded so human ?

I think not !

Now, Holden is about to release a collection of tracks he has been writing over the last two years. Entitled 'The Idiots Are Winning', it marks the point where Holden leaves his peers behind, and effortlessly glides into the stratosphere, drawing on techno, lo-fi and even kraut rock influences to create an awe-inspiring body of music to which parallels have been drawn to the likes of Aphex Twin, Four Tet, The Knife, and Herbert.
Damn right !

"10101"

Each times it gets a play (and a post on here) I realise I love it a little bit more.

It starts off so simple and unassuming, just like another micro-house or glitch-tech workout..... then about 3mins in it just grows into this utterly beautiful and thoroughly alive thing that oozes emotion out of the speakers before fading back to where it came. The first time the weird voice thing pans across the sound it makes you go "ooooh!". It's only 6mins but I wish it was twice the length.

I was listening to it walking home across the quayside last night and combined with the lights reflecting in the water etc it made me stop for a moment and do a little sigh.

Music like this makes me so fucking happy.

Music like this makes me so fucking happy.
I can relate to that so much :¬D

Just got Flaming Lips - Yoshimi Battles the Pink Robots which is making me smiley (plus Wayne Coyne is FIT)

Then I'm going to listen to the Set Fire To the Flames that you sent me :¬D

Like I said, have a look at my Last FM, if there is anything there you fancy I'll send it over to you.

Then I'm going to listen to the Set Fire To the Flames that you sent me :¬D

It can be a bit odd and atmospheric on first listen, maybe a little disjointed too, but when you "get" it then whoooooooooooooo blimey !

I'll do the EITS over the weekend and push them over the same way.

I'll check out your last.fm but I'm snowed under with stuff at the moment. I need to get a play for the new Ellen Allien & Apparat.......

James Holden
"Flute"
"Idiot"

From the same EP / mini-album as the "10101" tune a few posts back ("The Idiots Are Winning") this is a pair of absolute killer tracks.

A little lighter on the glitch and heavier on the atmosphere 'Flute' manages to combine krautrock, IDM, micro-house and even avant-garde noise into a five minute wonder. No real melody, no real constant rhythm and yet it's as emotionally uplifting in a club stylee as anything more conventional. Top.

To follow that with a hard techno stomper like 'Idiot' is sheer genius and the build up & out of the straight & brutal kick runs at the start is like feeling yourself take off. One of Holdens best attributes that, the ability to suddenly find another gear and push a track into the stratosphere. Anybody who heard his mix of Nathan Fakes "The Sky Was Pink" will know that !

Yeah, I know I'm gushing but this stuff is bloody wonderful. A Carpy has to have his vices and music is well up on the list ! If anybody wants to hear these two and '10101' then yell out.

So, all I need is a portable 25k sound system.......... :D

Thom Yorke - Atoms for Peace

Does anyone watch "Lost" here? I tell you that Henry Gale guy or Benjamin as they call him (the leader of the "Others") looks a LOT like Thom Yorke. It can't be just me that's thinking this.......

It's off "Dear Stop" (I'm still trying to pin point where abouts though).

It's the very end of "Evil" (the last 30 seconds), and it's really quite distorted, but you can make it out if you listen to it.

Am I the only one to have noticed this?

Ok, nearest I can get to a match is 3:04-3:20 of "Dear Stop", and the last 30 seconds of Evil, it does sound quite different when you compare, but I still think it's the same :p (just slightly altered, it's clearly slowed anyway)
