I'm listening to this Yahoooooooo Launchcast radio station that some of us were going on about a while back, the cool thingy that plays songs that you most likely like cos the playlist depends on the artists you put as your favourite.
So far I've had the two songs in the post above, Simple Minds' Don't You Forget About Me, Fleetwood Mac's Dreams, REM's Shaking Through, Scritti Politti's A Little Knowledge and some more i can't remember now!
And right now, Strict Machine! Oooo, monster super bit in the second chorus at the mo, where the synth kicks in harder and that other synth bit goes all dreamy. So lush....

It's worse than that, tatt. A few weeks before the Ketchup Song broke in this country, I was in Spain (in the unfortunately-named Tossa de Mar, which is actually a nice place) and the original Spanish version was played constantly. Whenever I hear it I'm instantly taken to a very nice outside table at a particular restaurant back there having some very nice vino tinto. (sigh)

I really like that song but I cringed when I heard that it would be the next single, it's completely the wrong idea to release it. But the nature of the album means that it would be hard to take singles off it. 'Blinded by the Lights' is the best song on it, but it won't be released because its about normal people taking pills on a normal night out. However, it is OK to release songs such as Eamonn's with language that is only gratuitous, no use for the rest of the song, and edited in such a way that its obvious what he is saying anyway. (Editing the word 'shit' halway through still sounds like 'shit').
Anf why does this song sell so many copies? So 10 year olds can buy the single and giggle at the album edit.
Everyone knows that my language is as foul as the next man but you can see why I'm offended when its used just to sell records to kids. Rhyming 'fuck' with 'fuck' does not make Eamon a musical genius.
Anyway, rant over....

Radiohead: Everything in its Right Place.
I remember the first time i heard this song (which was the first time i heard the whole of Kid A), i was spaced out, tired and on a train back to uni one Monday morning (the day Kid A came out, i couldn't wait to hear it), and the album just blew my mind. After i listened to the whole album, i kept on going back to this song again and again for the remainder of the journey. The best bit is after the 'tried to say' repetition and it all just gets stripped down to the synth solo. Amazing!

Speaking of Mac, I'm listening to 'Back of Love' by Echo and the Bunnymen. I'm back into the 'Greatest Band Ever' (according to Mac) now after a quiet period, and it's a good thing, cos they really were fucking incredible.
Spooky, the next song that gets played on this Yahoo radio thing (well, the next one I like anyway, skipped a couple of songs) is 'Wolf in the Breast' by Cocteau Twins, which is the kind of song that makes me want to walk out and dance in the rain, cos it's so beautiful. Hey hey Durham, I have heard that album, tis very nice indeed. Very mellow and pretty it is, especially 'Rust' and the title track. The comeback albums are all good, and if you compiled a best of from Evergreen, What are You Going to Do.... and Flowers, you'd have a total classic! But there are some so-so tracks scattered all over the three, plus they lack that fire and passion that the early stuff had.
However, they're so far away from the first four albums, that it would be unfair to compare the two eras (which is what i used to do, which is probably why I was harsh towards the new stuff). The Crocodiles to Ocean Rain/'Bring on the Dancing Horses' era is just amazing, beyond incredible. I'm thinking of purchasing all four in the very near future cos they've been re-released on CD with quality sound and all that, and HMV are doing a buy one get one free thing, so I'll get four of the best albums ever made for 22 quid. Nice one!

Im very selective in my disco taste...lets put it this way. My first single bought with my own pocket money was . I Feel Love - Donna Summer...and went and bought Chic's Good Times, Le Freak and My Forbidden Lover in succession....
I HATE the tackier end of disco, although can just about cope with the original version of Yes Sir.So bad its good.

fucking Stone Temple Pilots! I get them thrown at me too on that station! But it's playing Goldfrapp's Utopia at the moment, so i'm a happy bunny. Oooo, what's next (waits a few seconds). Ah, 'Amsterdam' by Coldplay. Good stuff, as this song is utterly quality.
Don't forget to rate the music as shite, then it wont be played to you as much. Though i swear i hear songs that i've already told yahooo not to play again! Suspicious.

That's poor. I had to just put 'NEVER PLAY AGAIN' when the bastards tried to get me to listen to Atomic Soddin Kitten. Yeah, this thing isn't perfect, but it's free, so i don't care. Ooo, what's on next..... (waits a few seconds for Chris Martin to stop singing). Ah, it's 'It' by Prince. hmm, maybe a bit early in the day for such unparalleled filth and funk, but I haven't heard it in ages, so it's staying.
EDIT: Ah, The Fall are in there. As you say, Human Error. I was thinking they couldn't get away with that and yet have all of Atomic Kitten's catalogue on there!
Stop Me If You Think You've Heard This One Before by the Smiths, on my launch station thing...I agree that they do play some crap here, too, in my case it's usually really boring chill out stuff or, worst of all, some American nu-metal/"punk" bands - the kind of music I never voluntarily listen to!

Well, I get what you mean! Out of all of radiohead's albums, I think Kid A works the best as a whole. Ok Computer (which is still my fave Radiohead album in terms of individual songs) is immaculately put together, but Kid A has a strange magic where each song gives the ones around it greater impact. I think the best way to listen to it is all the way through and not to dip in and out, and it's probably the most consistent of all Radiohead's albums (the last two, despite their brilliance, seem more like a collection of great songs as opposed to a terrific ALBUM). And it does fly past before my ears before I know it.
Oh well, that's me done. Listening to 'How We Used to Live' by Saint Etienne.
EDIT: And now I'm listening to 'Nag Nag NAG' by Cabaret Voltaire.
Although I've liked a lot of Radiohead's stuff, do they ever get beyond being anguished/tortured/melancholic/depressed?
If they don't, they aren't worth a light in my opinion. Having said that, they do the above very well but I don't think a band is any good unless they can give us light as well as dark.

L'amour ne dure pas toujours - Francoise Hardy
I was just listening to 'Chick Habit' by April March, fronted by Elinore Blake. Listen to that album. I just got introduced today. The title track of the album is brilliant and can be played in both French and English. All the way back to 1995 for that album.
I would definitely recommend listening to the coolness-of-1950s big-band-bad-girl-meets-punk-rocker-bass-playing-maniac-style.
Listen to any way you can!!!
