The The
"Good Morning Beautiful"
from 'Mind Bomb'
Matt Johnsons lyrics and Johnny Marrs guitar - dark, brooding bliss......
Satellite, oh, satellite
Who sits upon our skies
How deep do you see when you spy into our lives?
I know that God lives in everybody's souls
and the only devil in your world
Lives in the human heart
So now ask yourself
What is human? And what is truth?
Ask yourself
Whose voice is it? That whispers unto you?
From the cellars of your homes
From the tops of your city roofs
Ask yourself
Whose voice is it? That whispers unto you?
Who is it?
That turns your blood into spirit and your spirit into blood
Who is it?
That can reach down from above and set yours souls ablaze with love
Or fill you with the insanity of violence and it's brother: lust
Who is it?
Whose words have been twisted beyond recognition
In order to build your planet Earth's religions
Who is it?
Who could make your little armies of the left
and your little armies of the right
Light up your skies tonight
Now some of you may live and some of you may die
But remember
That nothing in the world can kill you inside
For he is thinking of you
In your great cities of great solitude
Oh children you've still got a lot to fuckin' learn
The only path to heaven is via hell
Good morning beautiful, good morning beautiful
Good morning beautiful, good bye world

Make that 98.9% of this board. I agree with Tatt. Shabooh Shoobah is a better album. You've got great songs like Don't Change, The One Thing, Black & White, To Look at You. There's nothing on Underneath the Colours that beats those tracks. Sorry :).

It was the album The The (primarily Matt Johnson) recorded for the Epic label which they then passed on as it had no single material. It thus became a "lost album" and only a promo single was done in a stupidly short run.

All the subtle flavors of my life

Richard X presents his X-Factor vol.1
I dug that out again last week. Not quite as splendid as I remember, but it certainly still has its moments. (Although, I still wail into my pillow when I think about how fantastic "Being Nobody" could have been had he actually got someone decent into sing it.)
I'm currently listening to "White Bread, Black Beer" by Scritti Politti. It's ok, a bit samey, but pleasant enough. Green's halcoyn day remains "Cupid and Psyche 85".

Listening to (and watching !) a frankly astounding version of "Cymbal Rush" by Thom Yorke, as performed on The Henry Rollins Show - Thom on piano and vocals, Jonny on weird slidy keyboard thing and Nigel on snare patterns.
Way better than the album version and I love that one !
Followed by Thom solo on an acoustic guitar doing a 20bpm faster version of "The Clock" - jesus, that's some fucking playing and the whole track is pushed to the n'th degree with some lunatic energy.
I have these two as video and mp3 if anybody want's em - you should, trust me !

Well I've nothing against midi really - I use it alot, but they've just gone for a horribly nasty piano sound and appear to have quantised the fuck out of it! I could be wrong but that's how it sounds :(

Yes, I've seen that doll. Very weird isn't it.
Yes she does indeed fry that egg well....she is hinting to the book "The Story Of The Eye", where the egg is a sexual object, I think....I am yet to read it! It's supposed to be a though read and be very gory.

Yay!
My theory on Midi is this: don't use it to make it sound like a real instrument, because you'll get found out, by all means use VST's but use MIDI to make it obvious that you've fucked with it. And like you say, if you have to use it as an actual instrument quantize it as little as possible. I really like the 'swing' function in Ableton which makes quantization seem a lot less mechanical.
There is MIDI snobbery though, on the David Wrench album CD it says clearly 'NO MIDI WAS USED IN THE MAKNIG OF THIS RECORD' - it's as if people who can't afford hard synths are no worse than animal testers!

Actually I think scrambled might entail possible more work than fried - I mean you have to beat them and then as an option add grated cheese - which means more work grating - so actually I thinhk fried would have been lazier.
Well if I hadn't have made Johnny do it anyway....
