Sufjan Stevens - Dear Mr. Supercomputer
I love this track so much - he really plays around with the time sig in it - firstly it's in 7/8 which is unusual but then he plays around with syncopation alot too so you get totally confused with the rhythm - ace stuff mister:)

Yup. The majority of the US is currently being pounded by a heat wave. Here in NY it's 97F with a heat index of 102F. It's all due to that damn jet stream. It's not allowing the cool air from Canada into the country :(.

Love The Feeling's album at the moment too. Okay, they're not the most exciting band on the planet but there's some nice tunes on there.
Heard a song yesterday on KISS that I'm itching to download. It's a rework of Daydreams by Lupe Fiasco (apparantly some HipHop wannabe) but it features some gorgeous vocals by Jill Scott. It's hot.

It's so non-dancefloor related but blasted at high volume would melt any venue ! The build at the start is very minimal tech and her vocals are twisted beyond any recognition for a big part of it. I love that sort of thing though - people who have that knack for really working vocals in an original way (Orbital spring to mind on that, for example) get my vote.

The Holden stuff (3 x Britney, 1 x Madge, 1 x Kirsty Hawkshaw) being put together now. With regards to the Britney ones the story goes that they were presented to the record company who promptly went "What the fu........!?!" and were horrified what he'd done to the track in terms of no longer having a pop hook etc......and they binned them. :p
You may notice a very cheeky disco bassline used (or approximated) in one and be aware the Dub is off in deep prog-tech but with a Lil Louis type vibe from some wicked vocal edits and cut ups - breathy is an understatement ! The execs must have done one when they heard it !

Remember "It's a Fine Day" ? Also used heavily in Orbitals utterly-bloody-sublime 'Halcyon' ? It's Holden on the mix of that one of hers.
.
Yes I used to love that record and love the Orbital track too - particularly the single mix with the "aaaah-ahhhhh" vocal sample coming in at the end. Reminds me off dancing round a field at about 5 in the morning to that record about 12 years ago:)
Anyway, I love the Holden mix of this track - sooooooo good thanks for that, and I also like the Madge mix alot too - it's good to hear some more experimental remixes rather than just the usual 4 to the floor eurotech bollocks that all gets a bit snoozesome after a while.
I'm going in for Britney now and it's not going to be pretty! (gulp)

Actually, alternating:
-"Can you hear me", by Bowie (from "Young Americans", (the most glamourous song that I ever heard. Elegant & "très" chic, sparkling in my ears, & souding like an anthem in my brain).
-"Thirteen" by Garbage (nostalgic electric guitar, cherry lollipop, teenage diary, first "commotions").
-"Variations sur Marilou" by Serge Gainsbourg. A huge odyssey of masturbation; Carroll's Alice just discovering how to get pleasure from her sex.
-"Dare" (Gorillaz) remixed by DFA. Another masterpiece of these so inventive DJs. They re-create the track, as they also do with "Slide in". In the middle of the remix, (which lasts more than 12 minutes), agressive & progressive keyboards lead absolutly your steps.
-"Love to love U Baby" by Donna Summer, the original 12": 16:51 minutes of what i'd like to sing to someone.
-"Don't let me down" by No doubt ("Rock steady" album produced by THE genius: Mark "Spike" Spent). Hit-&-run song.

The Grateful Dead - the album is Aoxoamoxoa, the song is St Stephen. I'm playing stuff I haven't listened to in ages, having been reminded on it by listing some of the music I enjoy in my myspace profile. I saw the Grateful Dead at Bickershaw (near Wigan) when they were in England in the early 70s. I was tripping - someone gave me the acid. And I was standing very close to where they let off the fireworks towards the end of the Grateful Dead set. It was a hell of a thing - probably my best acid trip.
Dupree's Diamond Blues is now playing.
I think that Aoxoamoxoa is my favourite Grateful Dead album - followed by Anthem of the Sun.

I have been hearing you folks raving about Sufjan, but I's poor, and can't buy all the music you folks do, and have even less time to listen to what I have. I did see a reference to Stevens on a Christianity Today email, so I get that he may be a bit 'spiritual'

Thank you. The Dead were awesome live - not least seeing them on acid. The music seemed designed for people who were tripping. The whole weekend - looking back - has an air of unreality. I hadn't even heard that the Dead were in the country. Then some people with a van asked if I wanted to come to Bickershaw. I asked what that was - and next thing I was on the Motorway heading south. Some friends let me sleep in their tent. I met up with an ex-girlfriend, just by chance, shortly before the Dead came on - and her boyfriend laid a tab of acid on me. The whole weekend just happened without any planning on my part. It has an almost dream-like quality, now that I think about it. Another highlight of the festival was Captain Beefheart... the Kinks were there, too.
It's only a matter of time before Corvina sees all these Dead & Garcia mentions and joins in - then you'll really see her enthused !
