Still not entirely sure about this. The tracks that are most fleshed out ("Analyse", "The Clock", "And It Rained All Night", "Harrowdown Hill") are rather cracking and worth the admission price alone but some of the others feel a little slight.
It's starting to sink in now as a whole but it does feel like you've listened to a long EP rather than a short album to start with.
Still, it's got a great production (wonderfully sharp click beats and a warm natural bass etc) and the form of the lyrics etc bodes well for the next Radiohead thang.
File under "needs more listens"
EDIT: Actually, alter that a little - even sitting here now I'm realising that a couple more of the tracks are cracking too. "Skip Divided" for example is a nice little menacing stalk-fest and "Black Swan" does far more than I credited it for - that alone makes 6 tracks I love and there's only 9 on the album. I think it makes a huge difference actually listening to it rather than just having it playing (if you know what I mean !).......

"Pass This On (http://youtube.com/watch?v=FEIDQiBX2rY&search=the%20knife%20pass%20this)" for sure. (that song made me aware of them... I watched the video by chance on MTV... I never watch MTV) And a couple of my favorite ones: "We Share Our Mothers' Health (http://youtube.com/watch?v=Tv0ZgS4m9Zg&search=the%20knife%20we%20share%20our)", "Forest Families" and "You Take My Breath Away (http://youtube.com/watch?v=7yaJSGhneSE&search=the%20knife%20take%20breath)". Oh and you may have heard of "Heartbeats (http://youtube.com/watch?v=ZatCZ1YWQeI&search=the%20knife%20heartbeats)" too. José Gonzalez covered it and his version was used for a commercial.
I must say it took me a while to enter their world....(apart from Pass This On)

I was reading the lyrics to "The Sound Of The Crowd" yesterday, they`re probably the weirdest lyrics that have ever been in the UK Top 20. How do you "make a shroud pulling combs through a backwash frame"? And, even more bewildering, how do you "stroke a pocket with a print of a laughing sound"??? Fantastic! Great images.

I`ve listened to Radio One all day today - is it me, or is it like the 1970s never happened? We`ve got Cliff Richard soundalikes (The Kooks, Jack Johnson, and The Feeling  ) Muse`s new single is like Donna Summer meets T-Rex, Razorlight sound even more like The Boomtown Rats than they used to, Lily Allen is this decade`s Minnie Riperton without the great voice (but I LOVE that song that sounds like Strawberry Switchblade about her little brother!), and Morning Runner sound like Elton John with an amphetamine hangover. If it weren`t for the hideous R&B every so often I`d have been expecting Terry Wogan, Peter Powell and Steve Wright to be doing the links in between! Oh, and that Raconteurs song sounds EXACTLY like "Is She Really Going Out With Him?" by Joe Jackson. I`m surprised he hasn`t sued.
I`m not criticising - there`s some good stuff out at the moment, especially Muse - just an observation. Sherlock Holmes was right, there really is nothing new under the sun.

gnarls barkley-crazy (I love this song!)
The album is surprisingly good. A pleasant surprise with so many other bands that get a great single then rush their shit album out on the back of it to cash in.
Nope, this one has a lot of good stuff on it.

I've just got it playing now and I'd forgotten just how good it is. If you're looking for 14 x "Crazy" then you'll be disappointed, but if you want something that's highly ambitious, quite varied and manages to have all the funk and soul without the cliche then buy away !
Imagine something like Andre3000's "Love Below" but then take it into even more directions - cartoon gospel, pop funk, 60's soul and 00's rap but doing all of them with humour and a serious originality. You'd have to go back to something like De La Souls "3 Feet High...." to find anything so playful.
I mean, I hate rap and R'n'B but where this touches them I really don't mind at all. 14 tracks in 37mins also means nothing outstays it's welcome.
As I say, just don't buy it for a whole album of "Crazy" - it's better than that !

I have the "Tom Baker" track on a cassette somewhere - I think it`s also the B-Side of "Boys And Girls" which is the greatest record ever made, as any fool knows. Actually, I don`t think it`s the same "Tom Baker" - rats!
I`ve found a tracklisting for it Carpy if you`re interested. I love some of the song titles - if I wasn`t moving house next week I`d be making it Priority Number One right now! It`s got a category number - VIRGIN OVED 4, if that helps.
