sometimes i can't stand her voice/music either and need a loooong break. Then i enjoy her music again... But i always respect her. She is an unique artist and an interesting person. Did you see her "I think this will be my last interview" on TF1? So... unusual.
Why so unsual? I don't have TF1.
I still like tracks like 'California', 'L' Âme-Stram-Gram', 'Souviens-toi du jour' and even the euro pop of 'C'est une belle journee'. But it's just greatest hits disc 2 these days, some of the early stuff hasn't dated well.
I have most of the videos some guy taped me and i still watch them now an again  That what got me into her, haveing a french TV channel on cable. I caught a few of her ridulously over the top videos.
But 'Je Te Rends Ton Amour' is by far her best song (and probabaly her best video!)
...closely followed closely by 'Pardonne-moi' (of the greatest hits package)

Don't have TF1 either, only 100mb video file with russian subtitles.
Wait... just found the the English transcript: http://www.romanianquiltstudio.com/m-interviu.htm
(including an interview with the interviewer )
and here is the video (low quality): http://www.dailymotion.com/video/32197
She doesn't behave like a successful pop star at all. Just compare her live videos and this interview: two different people in one! shyness and vulnerability along with strength and charisma. Very charming...

That is sooooooooooooooooooo weird. Just before returning to the computer (after making a cup of tea) I put on Jenny Lewis and the Watson Twins' "Rabbit Fur Coat" album. (I hope that no bunnies were harmed in recording it!) I bought this album yesterday (along with the Ladytron one). I was knocked out by the lovely Jenny and scary twins at the Album Chart Show on Monday. For the record, my reaction to the Chart Show were:
Mohair - good, but I don't know that I'd buy their album.
Jenny and the Twins - Wow! Must buy their album.
Wolf mother - OK, but nothing special (apart from the hair)

Peter, have you got any of the Rilo Kiley albums? From the sounds of it you are new to Jenny Lewis...sorry if this sounds patronising, but she fronts another band (Rilo Kiley)... If you dont have any of their stuff I HIGHLY recommend it! Or at least do a little internet research on it, I think you can listen to a couple of tracks on their website anyway.
I quite liked Mohair, they reminded me of Clor (although most people probably havent heard much of them either!) the main dude in Wolfmother reminded me of Simon Amstell (ex popworld) but I have no idea why.
I have my ipod on shuffle... now its Gary Numan - Cars!

Thanks for that - and no it doesn't sound patronising. I hadn't heard of Jenny Lewis until Monday, and hadn't heard of Rilo Kiley until I read your message. I will look for Rilo Kiley next time I'm in a record shop. I'm always on the look out for new (to me) music - I'd hate to be musically stuck.

Hey, I so agree - I find it incredibly hard to pick out a Rufus song. Memphis Skyline is just as touching.
Oh and I went to an art gallery and saw a 'Turner' last Friday. Thought immediately of Rufus and the song. As I'm in New York in June then I'll go to the Metropolitan Museum and see THE Turner he sings of.

She's so good! My CD's just received and I listened to her stuff, it is genius, and Maurice Fulton has worked wonders on the production.
Can I share my happiness of this find with anyone else? She's hilarious and in your face - and still so genuine, she's not trying to be funny and crazy - she is. Amazing woman!

Oooh yes I had the DVD single on last night - what a fabulously odd conglomeration of weird instruments and crazy sounds it is! Sort of like Fairport Convention-meets-Traffic.
Any thoughts on the Shortwave Set remix of "Satin Chic"? I was amazed. If the original version was carnival-time, there`s something very spooky about their remix - the carnival`s over, and Alison is walking down the deserted midway with a wind blowing through the Ghost Train and hooting in the corners of the Waltzers, holding a black handkerchief to her mouth.
I still don`t know what to make of the "You Never Know" remix - it`s quite folky too. Great intro though!
Ahhh, there`s a `y` in the day....

Exactly the thoughts I had - they've turned the joyous abandon into something tinged with a whole new set of emotions. It's the empty littered dancehall once the music has stopped and the people have gone home.
Alison sounds like she's pining for something that's gone but remembering it fondly, a half smile greeting the tear rolling down her cheek.
I'm really torn as to which version I prefer actually !

The song is called Rabbi Doll. I've no idea who the band or artist is. I bought it in the Virgin sale yesterday. The album cover has a picture of a young woman's face - looks like she has attitude. It carries the parental advisory warning. The album title seems to be A Flower in the Battlefield. But the name of the artist or band seems only to be written in Japanese. I was intrigued by it and bought it - and find that I like it... but I've no idea who it is.

Listening to Supernature all the way through with fresh ears. Actually, strike that, it's Goldfrapp so that should have read "New Ears" :D
Currently: Let It Take You
When "dreamy" is the target, this track is the arrow. To be lying side by side on a hillside staring up into the blue when this comes on......sigh. Perfect sentiment indeed.
Oooh, hang on - the suns out, the sky's blue and Fly Me Away has come on. Ok, I'm sitting in an office, but it still counts, ok ?
Do you know - I'm starting to realise that this IS the right track to release at the right time. Funny how things fall into place.

I heart Elbow. If there was any justice in the world it would be them getting all the attention pretty boys with guitars get.
I also saw them do a special intimate gig once at the Masque in Liverpool, which basically turned into Guy Garvey's stand-up gig.
