I've never listened to Pete Doherty, and I don't imagine I will any time in the future - but just because Pete is an MAJOR asshole, doens't make it ok to justify Conors past/present/future actions; you know what I mean ?

No, I wasn't saying that Conor doesn't act like an arsehole, I was just making the point that as long as Doherty exists its pretty impossible to look like an arsehole in comparison!

Goldfrapp live at the Manchester Academy (disc 2). I can see what the Neddyned means about Fly Me Away that night. Interesting features of the live CDs are what Alison says to the audience (and how she says them). At Manchester, it was mostly a rather half-hearted "cheers". I don't think that she was having a good night. She's much more enthusiastic on the Brixton album.

That`s cos the audience was terrible - noisy, restless, not paying much attention. I`ve never been so angry in my life. It was like being in an out-of-town shopping centre on a Saturday afternoon where you`re being screamed at and elbowed by chavs every five microseconds :( I`m glad the other gigs weren`t like that. I`m seriously considering not seeing them in Manchester again, I think I`ll travel out - it`s easy enough to get to London.

:D :D :D
WE SHOULD HAVE PILYED ON THEM!!!! *regrets*

She DID seem quite cheerful - and she seemed to have the audience with her just over halfway through - but it was quite obvious it had been a struggle. There can`t be anything worse than going on stage and seeing 500 people who look like the cast of Shameless punching each other, taking photos of their fannies with their Nokia 9999s and screaming each other`s names and paying you no attention whatsoever.... particularly during Utopia!

I`ll see you all in London next time!

Thanks for that. Maybe it was the opposite - maybe she was feeling a bit too mellow that night. However she is, I think being in her presence will aways be a knock out. This is the first time I've played the Manchester album. I didn't mean that it isn't good. It's different from the earlier ones in the tour. And what she said just before Ooh La La (now playing) sounds much more enthusiastic. And she does sound increasingly mellow. I'm sure it was a brilliant night and I'm glad to have the album.

I'm glad you love it! A bit unexpectedly to be honest. I mean... sometimes i think Moscow is way too huge, there are so many people, so many cars...
And the whole thing can't be as beautiful as separate parts...
well, maybe it's just me..
Anyway, august is good time to visit this city! :)

I am envious, I wish I could live there, but of course I would need the right qualifications in order to be able to find decent work, and to earn an income that keeps me comfortable. Moscow is an expensive city for it's people. I don't have these qualifications, so finding a good job for a foreigner in your country is hard, and so I have to just keep myself to visits. When I have been to Moscow, I get excited. I have visited a few clubs- the club Bunker on Tverskaya, the club Propaganda on Bolshoy Zlatoustinsky, and a small bar with alternative music on Lyubyansky Proezd, in China Town (kitai Gorod) I think it is called Kitaiskii Letchik Dzhao Da. It was a nice atmosphere in that place. There is also a nice restaurant that sells chocolate deserts near your city's botanical gardens. I have forgotten it's name unfortunately, but it is situated on Prospekt Mira.

I am also glad that you like Shirley Manson, as I saw your desktop, linked to on another thread. I enjoy the music of the band Garbage.

After last nights triumphant live entry into Carpys Hall'o'Fame I'm going to be lazy and simply steal two other peoples reviews to save typing them myself. Awful, I know, but they're spot on so why the heck not :p;)

Rubicks ‘I see you (Alan Moulder Mix) ‘ (Sharp Attack) is an absolute gem of a record, starts out merely awesome and ends up electrifying. Rubicks are duo Marc and Vanessa and ‘I see you’ is the follow up to 2002’s Cocteau Twins-esque debut ‘Midas’. This time the tempo, passion and pop quota has been stepped up several gears its almost off the scale, think of a more seductive version of the Koreans on the edge of an nervous breakdown amid an over heating fusion of robotic rhythms going insane and zoned in skin peeling riffs. Add the crucial X factor, Vanessa’s vocals, which manage to cover every range of emotion known to man peeking at the finale like an out of her mind Sinead O’Connor. Anxious, pulse racing and perfect. Who said austere had to be doomy?

Rubicks ‘I See You’ (Sharp Attack Records)
Long awaited follow up to the John Kennedy championed ‘Midas’ single finds the duo of Marc and Vanessa honing their skills further. Glitchy electronics and old school analogue synths rub shoulders with some distorted guitars and some proper rocking out in the latter half of the song. Add to this Vanessa’s startling vocals which alternate between the unintelligibly (but beautifully) ethereal and impassioned, clipped yelping like Liz Fraser and Karen O having an argument. Great.

Remarkably so. 'Tis true. Her and Marc were at the merch desk signing stuff and nattering to folks after the gig and my goodness, she's cuteness indeed !

High heels, a strapped-on guitar and attitude - works for me. The fact that they rocked like mofos tends to up the adoration factor - she really has the stagecraft of somebody who's been at the top for years and feels totally at home up there. Destined for good things says this Carpathian.
