You need to hear the version called Black Melt. (on the new Collected double CD/DVD). It's Liz rocking out!!!

Really? I need to pick that up. (Might do it today) I also heard that there is an unreleased Massive Attack/Liz track on that cd called something like "Silent Spring" or whatever. Can anyone verify this? If so, I must own it. I'm a Liz Fraser completist.

Never said hello, but Bristol's a small place and it turned out we had mutual mates, and her daughter was in the same class as a friend of mine's son :)

I've heard she may also be doing more stuff for the new Massive album, along with Beth Orton.

Very cool. One can only hope. Come out of your seclusion, Liz, I say. Out from your furrow! :) We've missed you! BTW, how old is Lucy now?

Currently: Joy Division "Love Will Tear Us Apart"

Bad is my favourite MJ album! Honestly. A big part of it might be that its the first album I was really aware of, but it only has one 'bad' song - Liberian Girl which spawned a hilariously bad video to make up for it.

'Dirty Diana' has the best 'Cha'mon' ever in it as well.

 It kind of undermines anything you say about other music when you say you like this. It may be well put together, etc. but the whole concept lyrically, stylistically etc... is the start of the end or the poor f*cker. It's the start of the freak show - I can't look.

I do remember Matt Johnson (THE THE) performing 'this is the day' (re-release) on TOTP in a M. Jackson - Bad T-shirt. Most people probably thought he was being ironic but he was having a go on so many levels! :)

Infact where is Matt these days? I mean there's so much ammunition for a new THE THE record, maybe he spontaneously combusted!

.

I think you missed my point - if it did come out now I probably would hate it,but you can't hate something which you loved so much as a litle kid.

And part of the reason why I still like it is that it is indeed so corny in parts that it just makes me laugh, like the video for 'Bad' was MJ trying to convince us that he's a real tough guy.

NakedSelf was massively underated in my humble opinion !

I have all but two albums of his - I'm just missing the two remix compilations "Solitude" and "Stretched".

I've most of the 12" mixes already but there's two remixes of "Dogs of Lust" by Foetus that I'd love (he even mixes in bit's from 'Sweet Bird of Truth' !) and the completist in me is screaming that the other albums aren't right without their two friends along for the party.

Well you say that, but I put on an Ultravox album the other day (bear in mind these guys were god when i was 12) and it was so weak. I got uncomfortable listening to it as i couldn't believe i'd been taken in so completely by it.

This is not helped by meeting various members (including midge recently) who are so not like the music they made. It seems they just did it for the fame not the real love of the music as it was the style that was popular for the time.

I've realised it was the Conny Planks and Peter Savilles (the real inovators behind it all) that i fell for ....not the band.

Carp, how much music have you got?

Please. Don't. Ask. :D

In my defence I'd add that I've been collecting for a long time. In fact, for as long as it's possible to have been collecting them.

I got my first CD player when there were 6 (yep, that's SIX) cd's to choose from. Can you imagine that now !

Some artists I do (black)cherry pick things but some artists I love enough to gradually fill all the gaps. It just so happens (and rather spookily) that most of those are the ones that get a load of mentions on here - hence I keep popping up ! :p

In all though it must be past 1300 cd's..........

I don`t know what Tom Selleck dances like by the way - my mum phoned while the C4 remix was on and she said she liked the sound of it  :) she said it reminded her of a disco in Cornwall in the late 1970s where all the men looked like Tom Selleck and she had a glittery boob tube on  so I just HAD to re-create it for her afterwards!

Having just finished listening (again) to Black Cherry, I've put on Blondie's Eat to the Beat. It isn't quite right, but my first thought on hearing Goldfrapp's sound was "Blondie on acid". My days soundtrack (though not at this second) has consisted of things that I love muchly: one pair that I always have and another pair which somebody on here has helped turn me on to.

CAN:
Monster Movie
Tago Mago

Faust:
Faust
Faust IV

Can anybody recommend another good CAN album as stupidly solid as those two ? A more perfect mixture of the avant-garde with the beautfully crafted groove (no easy thing, let me tell you !) I'd love to find. There are a couple of tracks on Tago Mago which predate the Happy Mondays by Bez's age (well, you know) and yet the latter sounds exactly like them. Only noticed for the first time today. Bizarre.

I had it on my player when out shopping today. It *really* messes with you, doesn't it !

I got part way through "Miss Fortune" and my brain locked into the groove and kinda got with it and let it sink into the ambient city noise around me.

Bad move.

The end bit kicked in, with the shouting and the voices and such and scared the life out of me.

I saw that and I must admit to sighing beforehand when they said "Here, with a special performance....." expecting some usual R&B or RAP rubbish version (it is TOTP after all) but boy, was I wrong !

All live instruments, his voice was amazing and it really was like a lost 70's soul classic - really huge and dramatic with the strings really given the lead.

Seeing this, and realising there is some proper talent behind it, makes me pleased it got to number 1 after all.

There's a difference between standing up for what you believe in ( which he does and is very admirable ) and being a complete prick toward the people who buy your records. He's so arrogant, and it's beyond annoying. I know you can't be nice to everyone in the world, but he acts like an elitist all of the time.

Well, it's the Columbian Marching Powder isn't it?

Not that I'm trying to excuse it at all. I guess, in Britain, we don't really encounter that side of him a lot (except Glastonbury last year, which he couldn't stop apologising about).

We have Pete Doherty - he's a hundred times worse with a hundredth of the talent.

Perhaps Conor has gotten better, but the times I've seen him he's acted like he didn't want to be there, and I know people who've met him, whom he totally dismissed. I also think there were a couple articles about him being an ass aswell. Maybe he's changed !

Well, he's just like any cokehead isn't he? Self-obsessed, rude, and personally ignorant.

I think his heart is pretty much in the right place though, and as he's released five amazing albums (which you can empathise to unbelievably) you want to forgive him. And he's friends with Jenny Lewis - she'd know if he's a bad'un wouldn't she?

Compare with: Pete Doherty:

Co-wrote one good album
Does everything through the tabloids
Absolutely unprecedented disregard for fans
Abscent father
Drink/drugged driver
Doesn't really seem to believe in anything except for Crack.

As long as people look up to him (and so many do over here), Conor Oberst seems like a saint!

I've never listened to Pete Doherty, and I don't imagine I will any time in the future - but just because Pete is an MAJOR asshole, doens't make it ok to justify Conors past/present/future actions; you know what I mean ?

I loved Bright Eyes records in high school, and supported them by going to their/his shows pleanty of times. I noticed more and more how arrogant Conor was so I stopped buying his records and going to his shows. It's just the way I feel about him and I don't try to persude anyone to think otherwise because people can listen to and support what ever they wish. Plus! Jenny Lewis has made a lot of money off of being associated with Conor and his record label, doesn't mean their the best of friends, or they could be; whatever ( she could secretly hate him too ). The point is, I still think he's arrogant.

It's much different over here in the states, either you love conor or you hate him, there's really no middle ground. When I saw Feist she annouced that she was touring with him, and the whole crowd 'boo'ed. It was pretty sad. :o

I Love You But I've Chosen Darkness - "The Owl"

If you guys can, I highly recommend picking up this album, I'll even upload it for you. It's like the new, "Turn On The Bright Lights" for 2006.

Just saw these guys live recently and what a great show it was. Yes, the album is amazing.

Right now...Spleen United-"Godspeed Into The Mainstream"

I'm currently listening to the soundtrack for a French science fiction movie called "La Planete Sauvage." It's by Alain Goraguer.

It's sleazy robot-porn music, and sounds very 1970's.

Miles Davis - "A Kind Of Blue"

I don`t know what you call this sort of music - trad jazz? early R&B? but it`s absolutely beautiful. Why haven`t I heard this before?
