Except 'Homogenic' of course, that goes without saying. I'd go with Medulla being the winner by a short throat (singer).

I've actually "got" Drawing Restraint 9 in the last few months. Couldn't get my head round it at all to start with and it went on the shelf as 'one just for the collection'.

Dug it out the other day and must just have been in the right mood - now I think it's genius.

Mad as kittens in a washing machine type of genius, but that all the same.

Still Medulla top spot though - of course.

Oh yeah, nearly forgot.

The Knife - "Neverland" from Silent Shout, the 2006 album ;)

I'm yet to look and see who writes this but the person that sings is, without question, totally bonkers. :p

I've seen them described as "Kate Bush cum Lene Lovich cum Kraftwerk" and as I'm lazy I'll just copy that for now.

Yet another find due to people in this place. Between these and Black Heart Procession it's been a cracking few days !

Me fudging about on the guitar.

I'm practising 'The Day We Caught The Train' by Ocean Colour Scene which I know is a bit lame but there's a chord change in there from an A# diminished to a B minor which is tricky to pull off but sounds quite nice when you get it right.

Woah! Enough of the 'tosser', Mrs.

I was only making light of the fact that despite the publicity push every year on the music programs the kids just don't dig him.

It doesn't mean that he's above criticism though does it?

I'm sorry, but most who have heard of him just see him as the bloke who was in that Australian pop duo who released hummable but forgettable pop, who went on to release dull MOR pop.

I'll repeat msyelf: I was making light of the fact that his records have bombed in England.

And the Goldfrapp analogy is kind of redundant, because I'm not overly-precious of my favourite bands. For example, I thought Supernature was a bit boring.

Also, considering this is a music discussion thread I feel entitled to cast my opinion on his music. As long as I'm not insulting people personally I don't see the problem with that.

The relevance of James Blunt was that people voice their feelings on artists they don't like all the time on here. You can't call someone a 'tosser' for doing so when it's someone you like.

A bit swish for my purposes at the moment, but from what I've read of you doing computer-ry things on other threads I think you're well more advanced than me.

I just need a keyboard to figure out melodies, I tend to end up 'writing' the MIDI in once I've done that. The faders come in handy though for automation and when I'm doing DJ sets.

The Carpathian

To be honest I think money will snip the strings of my wants and leave me getting the Photon 25 instead - just a little stick control rather than the dome but otherwise it's not that flash.

It'll be used to trigger samples, control and play various VSTi synths & samplers and make lots of squelchy noises with a copy of Rebirth.

Those two banks of assignable knobs will be great to play the two 303's "live"......

Those squelchy noises may be the sound of stuff going over my head.

I've got a really nice 303 VST plug in though, I used to put it in everything.

BTW, I've just figured how to download the borders stuff - you just have to wait about half an hour don't you?

I really, really don't know what your problem is. Someone else called Darren Hayes dull. I took the piss out of the fact that his records bomb, and you started hurling abuse at me. I pointed out the fact that few people care about Darren Hayes. You obviously like him, good for you, I obviously don't share your 'point of view', no.

It's the last I'll say on the matter, but if you're going to start throwing terms like 'tosser' about out of the blue expect to have your apparently vapid intellect exposed.

Listening to Maxence Cyrin - Modern Rhapsodies for the second time.
Got a F Comm promo knowing bugger all about it. No tracklisting either so, judging by the sleeve, put it on expecting a cross between Aphex Twin and William Orbits 'Pieces in a Modern Style'. Track 1 consisted of a very vaguely familiar tune played on a piano in a classical style. Took me 'til track 8 to rumble what was going on. Here's the tracklist;

Behind The Wheel
Don’t You Want Me
Disco’s Revenge
Sueño Latino
Windowlicker
Acid Eiffel
Jaguar
Go
Unfinished Sympathy
The Meltdown
Anasthasia
Untitled track 8
L.F.O.
Smokelbech II

Gloomy sunday has a very strange history. It makes people commit suicide. Many neighbours of suicides said that they heard the song playing before "it" happened. It's supposed to have this effect. A curse or something. I read something about it a couple of years ago and I found it VERY interesting.

Ha. The link is there. But maybe youre thinking about it in the wrong manner?

From personal experience, its the mentality of the listener that gives them some satisfaction of the song. The songw ouldnt make a non suicidal person suddenly want to slit their wrists.

Ive heard it described as 'the musical, olden day version of the ring'

I have to say, I think its a stunningly beautiful song.

I'm pretty sure that what I'm listening to now is the concert that I was a part of as a bass in the Evansville Philharmonic Chorus back in Spring 2001.

The first songs were from John Rutters' arrangements of old folk songs called The Sprig Of Thyme, including one about a willow tree...

Funny thing; Joyce, my landlady got on a sudden neat streak, and in the process made me aware of an old cd of this concert.

'Portions For Foxes' = My single of the year 2005

Ch-ch-check it out.

The first four tracks off the 'More Adventurous' album are awesome. While from the older stuff I like 'Science versus Romance' from the first album. They've got a song called 'The Frug' which you can't get in this country which was really early but is great.

From the solo album, try the title track: 'Rabbit Fur Coat' or 'Melt Your Heart', or even 'Handle With Care' which has got Benjamin Gibbard and Conor Oberst on, which pretty much combines my holy trinity of alt.rock in one track.

I love tracking things down mentioned on here - usually leads to some serious nuggets.

Currently, as it kinda fits, I'm watching Rilo Kiley "A Man/Me/Then Jim" live at Fingerprints in Long Beach from '04 (from that link I posted above)

That's some beautiful stuff - her voice fits the slide so well !

It annoys me, the only way I can access that song is by a video on Launch. You can't commercially get hold of it in Britain. But its one of their best songs.

I am listening to nothing. I just wanted to share photos I took at Stars - they're in my livejournal here (http://melissajune.livejournal.com/148093.html)
