Wow !

[heads off to Google]

Only listened to "Her Room" so far but the music reminds of the sort of stuff David Sylvian does - quite a pleasant surprise ! She's got a really emotive voice too - I'm off to try more !

edit: now heard "Spin The Context" and "And then..." and both are stunning too - what a voice ! I think David Sylvian fans will be almost a dead cert to like these three tracks !

Cassius 1999.

I bought this when I was going through my French Disco phase a couple of years ago. There's some good tracks on it, and the bass is especially good throughout.

Doesn anybody remember the title track as a single? It had one of the best videos ever.

Do you mean Super Discount? I've only heard the first one once but it was indeed great: loads of DJ's cite it as an influence. There's an Etienne de Crecy track on Super Discount 2 called 'Fast Track' which I have which everybody should hear. Erol Alkan does a great bootleg of it with 'Never Be Alone' by Simian.

I've seen Ettienne DJ live in Liverpool and he was awesome.

Have you also noticed that you can link every single Paris Disco act? It's the most cross-pollinated scene ever. Daft Punk, Air (who were Disco back in the Premieres Symptomes days), Alex Gopher, Philip Zdar, Cassius, Ettienne de Crecy, Stardust. There's about three members betweena all of them!

jimmyjamjar
26-01-2006, 11:41
Yes that's the one - SuperDiscount - I listened to the second one but wasn't as impressed :( Must dig out the first one for a relisten :)

Exactly what I was thinking, but further back. All rock and roll comes from black people in the deep south!

Is it any good though, musically? Looking at the lyrics I don't believe for a second their claim that they write those songs themselves.

It is great I love all of the scores that accompany his films - I did my Master's thesis on his use of music, and in particular in Eraserhead where he uses the sounds as music.

I'd love to hear you doing the bit where the bass plunges about three octaves and literally scrapes along the floor for a few bars - that's just unreal !

I remember buying a 12" of that for a girl from Holland I travelled to meet in Oxford to go clubbing. That was around the time Josh Winx 'Higher State of Conciousness' was screaming things down. Even now I can't beat a bit of 303 action ! :D

HEHEHE! I read about that...how "One Word" is a total rip-off of "Fade To Grey" by Visage....
Kelly didn't even write "One Word"...it was Linda Perry.:) ...I love Linda's work...well most of the stuff that she hasn't ripped off is brilliant :D

This IS true - I'm a massive fan of the Visage track and it pained me every time I saw the video or heard the track for her "version".

I'm all for giving people the benefit of the doubt.......but that stank.

As the exception that proves the rule, here's the thing annoying the downstairs neighbours at the mo:

Britney Spears - "Breathe On Me (James Holden dub)"

I hate pretty much everything the woman has done (sorry and all that) but the three mixes Holden did for this - Club Mix, Vocal remix and Dub - are absolutely cracking. If they'd ever been released he'd have blown up huuuuuuuuuge. Some of the vocal cut-up and processing is fucking unreal - any of these would slay a packed crowd. King of the Tech-Edit for sure.

If anybody wants them (the dub especially) then the condition is to comment on them in here. Same goes for those previously receiving a "package" of choons from me - hint hint people out there !

I've got "Thrills" and "Berlinette" but I'm still not sure which I prefer - they're both rather good though ! I think "Berlinette" is a little better due to a bit more atmosphere but both are worth getting.

I'm after an older one of hers, "Stadtkind", at the moment - more of a minimal Tech-House thing which fits in with the Tech stuff I'm listening to at the mo (Border Community label, James Holden, Nathan Fake)

I acquired it under stranger circumstances. My brother got it as his 'editors choice' in his Britannia Music Club thing. He didn't want it. Offered it to me, I looked at the cover. Said "no". A month later YLH says he was listening to it. Prompted me to read a few reviews. Then went back to Martin's house. Salvaged it from darkest depths of attic. Took it home. Listened to it. Liked it.

I was going to get the Feist album this week as well, but this has sort of plugged my need for chanteuse-y music.

I'd answer that it's due to the pause in premature atrial/ventricular contraction. The heart beats too early, waits, overfills and then beats extra-hard. There is no skipped beat but instead an unnoticed premature beat. :D

Then, as usual, people would look at me funny. :o :(
