If you are asking who matchbox 20 are, they're very big in America. Quite straight laced rock band I think they're from Miami. Their singer is Rob Thomas, you may know him as he sang on 'Smooth' that big Santana song.

The idea of "what you are listening to know" thread is to impress people with you excellent taste in music!
So if you want to be pretentious you say you're listening to:
Brian Eno and David Byrne - My Life In The Bush Of The Ghosts
while you're actually listening to:
Emma Buntons new album
But if you want to be ironic you just reverse the above:
And if you want to make a point you can say you are listening to:
Oasis - be here now
and then actually listen to it!!!
;)
shit! Am I being pretentious?

aaah! I love MB20!
they are one of my favourite bands, I think Rob Thomas' voice is truly amazong especially live, I have seen them live 3 times most recently at Wembley. I wish I had seen them at the 100club years ago, such a small gig would have been amazing!

Nice weather for ducks is very, very sickly music, but you can indulge in it once in a while. I listen to this album only once in a while. It's all a bit rich actually.
I'm off to bed, nighty-night.
I like the old men they have singing over the music or talking whatever the term is, it reminds of being in nursery, for some odd reason. All the ducks are swimiming in the water, well I suppose you could say I have an elderly gentlemen fetish.

Infact you the man to speak to...have you heard anything by Mice Parade? They seem to be the latest MBV referencing band.
Going to see Múm in april and I think they're mates with Sigur Ros - but with less guitars and a couple of pixies! have one album and it's like electronic S.Ros ...abit.

Sorry Tatty, my bad!
I'm gonna go and see Mum too. We've got an album in our house, can't remember what its called, its nice though. Do you know what their live set up is? I'll be dissapointed if its all off a laptop.
I (the man to speak to) haven't heard anything of Mice Parade. For modern MBV stuff, I thought the first BRMC album harked back a few times. I got bored of that album very quickly though. I should buy that AC Acoustics album thats supposed to be in the same vain.
I'm listening to Blur - 13. Sorry, not very extravagant I know. Don't you hate it when you're looking at your (now massive) record collection and see nothing you want to listen to? Anyway, Amazon package soming tomorrow:
Mazzy Star - So Tonight I Might See
Jeff Buckley - Mystery White Boy
Primal Scream - Exterminator
Bjork - Homogenic
Sly and the Revolutionaries - Black Ash Dub

he! he! (although you may have had 2 conversations!) AC acoustics was me also! Get 'O' first though (they are so neglected i'd go for ebay!). I'd love someone to actually here them so I can hear someone else's opinion!!
On the old MUM website you can download a live set, which I'm listening to at this moment, and it sounds real - drums/recorders even! etc.!! Sounds like 'crazy people ' type band!
PS: On MBV front, are 'Don't ask why' and 'Honeypower' rare tracks! Got some old creation compilation CD's years ago without covers and realised the other day I could use I-Tunes track recognition to get the track names! They weren't on the 2 albums (I don't have Glider though!)

I suppose they might be quite rare as there isn't a MBV b-sides compilation that I know of. Torch Song - into the unknown region (Willy Orbit!!)
Mary Anne by Glyn Jones, on a compilation record of 60's record label Immediate, another bargain record for me. It cost only 3 euros and it has P.P Arnold's First Cut is the Deepest and Nico's the Last Mile on it, as well as some other great stuff! Yey!
You should give Norma Fraisers First Cut Is The Deepest a try. It's an old reggae version. Very good. :p
I am listening to Franz Ferdinand and Take Me Out!!! A certain rift in the song reminds of the music that was on the south bank show in the 1980's. Is it just me or is it true.

PS: Also got new Zero 7 today and saying it sounds like Simple Things is an understatment!!! Don't love it , don't hate it ...need time.
Can't bypass the Copy Protection so don't know how I'm gonna make compilations. It may help save the music industry ( ) but will destroy that art of making a good compilation. Even messes up digital mini-disc recording. May as well get my tapes back out!!! :(
Killing Joke's "What's THIS for... !"
An album released in 1981, amazingly.
Still sounds like it was made yesterday.
Still makes other heavy rock bands sound like easy listening. :p
Still sounds like the end of the world set to music.
Most refreshing. :D
What a band. Love the Pandemonium album too, especially "Mathematics of Chaos".
Yeah, Mathematics of Chaos is a good one. :D
It was hearing Whiteout from that album live on Mark Radcliffe's Radio 1 late-night show years ago that got me into Killing Joke.
I was like, WTF was THAT! :D
Their last album was a return to form from Democracy. They're never better than when Jaz is in a rage about something. :D

Single version of Black Cherry by Goldfrapp: it sounds different than the album version, especially the drums and strings. It sounds lighter too, airier, less warm. Not as good as the original, and it cuts out the absolutely gorgeous instrumental bit near the end. Boooooo.
Still, Gone to Earth's very, very nice.

If I had a DVD drive I'd offer to do it for you, but I'm still in the dark ages visually...

DVD drive on Mac! I mean I could just output it out and back in again, but wondered if there was a way of extracting straight onto my mac. I'd like to finally compile my Goldfrapp onto one CD (I presume this being the last release!) as I love the Lawrence Mix!!! (If they'd swapped it for the shake and vac mix i'd have been happier!)

ok ok .... but still there is no exscuse to kill a perfectly good song.
I actually remeber bopping to that song alot of times in the 80's when I was a wee nipper and its a Homer Simpson classic so it can't be that bad.

oh ponybabe, it's nice to hear you missed me. i missed you all here, too. unfortunately, i smashed my computer up on my birthday (valentine's day...29 years!) by accident and just finally got it fixed. about damn time. anyway, glad to see everyone is still here and chatting away. right now i'm listening to "i'm every woman" by chaka khan and was just listening to "she's fresh" by kool and the gang. i've been on a bit of a disco kick as of late and i just can't seem to shake it. donna summer "dim all the lights", george mcrae "rock your baby", diana ross "love hangover", evelyn champagne king "i don't know if it's right". it's just been a non stop disco hits thing happening over here for me. the only thing that's managed to break it up is the new kylie album which i shamelessly love. and that song "this love" by maroon 5 which is probably my guiltiest pleasure ever. i'm almost ashamed to admit to it.

Deepest Blue has just came on the radio or as I like to call them 'I can't believe it's not Dirty Vegas'
The only difference being, this is not very good.
The Empty Page by Sonic Youth from 2002's rather brilliant Murray Street. I'm pretty sure my musical tastes would be a lot more dull if I hadn't gotten into SY at the age of 13, and they're possibly the only band I liked in my early teens that I still like.

I love the way they just didn't give a crap, half the time they'd just pan on thing to one speaker and everything else to the other. Another stereo experience to try (sorry, bit of a tangent) is Boards Of Canada "Music Has The Right To Children" - if you position the speakers right and are in the right place between them, some of the sounds seem to float past you - it's really weird...

what a whirlwind the 'Throbs were, deliciously perverse, intense and damn sexy. their single 'Dreamtime' is perhaps their most well known track. some of their most exciting songs for me are 'Blood From A Stone', 'White Laughter', 'The Girl Became The Stairs' and 'Tranquilized, Naked and Shy'. All three of their albums are phenomenal. I listen to them a lot. their tunes drip glamour, and Rose Carlotti is one of my favourite lyricists ever.

I missed them live and was so disappointed! Have to say I heard the next album and it was dissapointing for me - but my music choice was all over then. Best Beatle? Cannot decide.
Paul: amazing melodies, the best one of the four for simply quality tunes and i love his voice. 'Penny Lane', 'Good Day Sunshine', 'You Never Give Me Your Money' (well, the whole of the Abbey road medley, so good!), he was a genius. And 'Mother Nature's Son' is one of the prettiest, loveliest songs ever!
John: at his best, some extraordinary stuff. 'A Day in the Life' is still by far and away my fave Beatles song, and then there's 'Mr Kite', 'Norweigan Wood', 'Dear Prudence', 'Julia', great!
George: lovely, lovely voice. 'Something', 'Long Long Long', 'Taxman', 'Here Comes the Sun', all superb songs. and All Things Must Pass is the best post-Beatles album ever. It's amazing.
Ringo: great drummer. Nuff said.

I have a big Amelie poster in my room, Audrey Tatou looking at you first thing in the morning is lovely. Right next to my signed picture from Alison... Bar-steward! :D
How are things, by the way - been to see anyone interesting recently? I'm listening to Postal Service at the moment - "We Will Become Silhouettes"... reminds me of the Flaming Lips and the Lighting Seeds on a night out at the Haçienda...

I'm listening to the Amelie soundtrack.
I bought the DVD / soundtrack presentation box set. Bad move really as they released a special edition version of Amelie not long afterwards.

Yay! Indeed, it is a fine album, but i left my copy (along with many other gems) at my sisters house a couple of weeks ago! When i get them back depends on when I see my sis or my bro in law. So many lovely albums, so far away from me.... boo hoo.
Listening to Being Boring by the Pet Shop Boys. Beautiful.

1. Saw Elbow and Aqualung last week, both fantastic.
2. PS are fantastic aren't they - that track seems to be one of the most popular but I prefer Nothing Better, District Sleeps Alone Tonight, Such Great Heights, Brand New Colony, Natural Anthem and Clark Gable in that order. But the other tracks are great as well. EVERYBODY should own that album, such god pop music. Ben Gibbard is so musically aware, listen to Death Cab For Cutie, and you just think its emo, but there's so many influences. When i saw them live they morphed their last song into 'All Is Full Of Love'
3. I rue the fact I was born too late to go to the Hacienda
4. I've just inspred myself to whack on Bjork - Homogenic
