Harold Budd, Brian Eno and Daniel Lanois: 'The Silver Ball'

This piece of music is so beautiful it's preposterous.

By the way, Word magazine did an amusing glossary of music genre terms, and their description of indie was.....

"Originally indicated the independent status of one's record label. Now that these labels are owned by majors it means anyone NME enthuses about".

And pop?

"Popular music. Employed condesendingly by 'rock' supremacists"

Rock supremacists? Shudder. Can't think of any worse form of musical snobbery than those people. You know, the kind of who believe that music died when The Beatles split up, the "I take my music real and earnest, I like it real and traditional (none of that experimental shite), with four blokes in a garage playing actual instruments, always singing live on telly, nothing like that smelly pop, it gets in the charts, doesn't it? Yeah. Real rock. Real music. With GUITARS!'

Thats the only track I know by her and its a good dance track in my humble opinion. To be honest I'm at the age where I find it very tiresome not to like a track just cos the artist is not *in fashion* etc.

I have a tolerance level of zero at the moment due to shite stuff happening. Apologies for being a stroppy mare, but honestly I'm not making apologies for a track making me feel a bit uplifted at a time of my life when I'm stressed to hell.

Have all their first 3 albums (not the last one!). They changed a bit after the first album and again on the 3rd so it's hard to compare. The absolutely fantastic 'My Star' by Ian Brown. I actually prefer this to any of his stuff with the Stone Roses, but then again, i was never really that much into the band anyway. Plus it manages to steal off of The Beatles 'Dear Prudence' and actually come off as superior. Since there's a refreshing lack of Beatles worshipping on this board (don't get me wrong, i love them, but the worshipping winds me up sometimes. I try to ignore the hype and just appreciate the music), i don't think i'm being a heathen by saying such things.

...I meet her and had an cool chat with her (f**king great questions for once when meeting someone cool it;s a rare thing!!!). Was intrigued why all the lyrics are writen from a girls point of view but written by her husband (John Moore - lucky man!). So he must be just a dirty old man at heart!! :D She was lovely (not as stunning close up as i thought - but more than made up for it in personality!). Pity some drunk idiot came up and started pestering her - so she had to go!!

I love The art of Driving. Although The English Motorway System is a classic (no other band could make a song with tittle so beautiful and romantic!!)

Wow, you got to meet her? Lucky! Is it true that John Moore (like you say, lucky man!) used to import absinthe in the country or something? Never did find out more about that, was intrigued.

I love the Art of Driving and the English Motorway System, they're very lush. 'May Queen' is probably my fave on the album, it reminds me of of my years at uni doing film assignments looking outside wishing i could get all this work finished, with nice spring weather outside. Dog Man Star by Suede was played a hell of a lot during that period, as was the always delightful and cheery Mezannine by Massive Attack! Ahhh, memories.

I've never read the Idler, though there is a copy of that 'Crap Towns' (which The Idler was responsible for) book here in the house, a very amusing (and depressing) read it is too! That Luke Haines intrigues me also, I remember reading an issue of Uncut years back where he ripped into The Beatles in the midst of their 'they are the greatest band ever' celebration and it was highyl amusing. I wanna hear his stuff with The Auteurs, I read that Haines was pissed off that Blur nicked loads of his ideas from the New Wave album for Modern Life is Rubbish.

I should really get BBR's other stuff, even their odds and sods and B sides album's meant to be top dollar!

It was a stormy night, you know the kind where the lightnin' strike

ooh wee ooh wee ooh wee
The night was long, the night went on, people coolin' out until the break of dawn
Incense was burnin' so I'm feelin' right, aight

See I picks my friends like I pick my fruit
My Ganny told me that when I was only a youth
I don't walk around trying to be what I'm not
I don't waste my time trying to get what you got
I work at pleasin' me
Cause I can't please you and that's why I do what I do
My soul flies free like a willow tree

And if you don't want to be down with me, then you don't want to pick from my

And if you don't want to be down with me, then you don't want to pick from my

TV Themes....I would argue that most surpass the actual shows they feature on. The A Team, Knight Rider, Charlie's Angels, Quincy, Magnum, loads more i can't think of, they were all shite, but the theme tunes rocked liked fucking bastards.

Best TV theme tune ever still is Doctor Who in my opinion. And the show, I remember, did actually live up to the expectations raised by that lil' bit of music. Well, it was great in a kinda crap way!

Mooey, i thought the music videos to the Discovery singles were pretty poor. I saw the one to 'Something About Us' today and it just didn't suit the song at all! Maybe i just expected videos featuring flocks of seagulls haircuts, breakdancing, lots of flashing coloured lights and dodgy clothes, you know, to keep in tone with the whole 80's thing. I got that album the day it come out and had a borderline obsessive affair with it for about a year.

And now I'm listening to 'The Perfect Kiss' by New Order, which I haven't heard for a long time. Quite frankly, i reckon it's the best dance song ever.
