Goldfrapp - Blog

hey! its saturday

hello !

been off the radar a bit, we’ve been in london writing.  we’re  looking for a new manager, nursing broken foots (no wearing of morter boards) meetings, meetings and more meetings.  all good stuff though, all moving forwards towards creating the album and our future etcetcetc !

looking forward to putting on my robot boot and hobbling to the jeff koons exhibtion at the serpentine this weekend.   Had a lovely dinner with friends last night and ordering some aqua shoes and some snorkelling gear  today for my holiday in the greek islands in august.  oh my god i cant wait….getting in that delicious heavenly sea! yeeha!

been listening to that Empire of the Sun song ‘we are the people’ i love it and the video! and i’ve been reading various Murakami books, so into him at the moment.

i bought some shiny turquoise Pierre Hardy shoes from Paris to wear when my foot is better.  they are such a yummy color, the same colour i imagine the sea in Greece will be !

we are in the west country next week which is great.  it seems we get into a groove a bit more up there with no meetings and other stuff to fill up our brains.  i go swimming pretty much everyday too, love it, love it, love it! (thank god i’m allowed to do that with my foot), sitting in feilds gazing at the wind blowing in the trees lying on my back watching the clouds before going to the studio.  The photo is of Davide and i in my caravan at the Coachella festival in California last year.

xxxxxxx have a lovely weekendxxxxxxxxA260420082511

  3. I wish I could hear what direction the new album is going in, such anticipation to hear the new sound and imagery. I hope the album isn’t leaked onto the internet as MP3s – I want to hear it for the first time on double gatefold vinyl, with a bottle of red wine.

    Two top tips:

    1) Once your foot has healed, swimming is a fantastic way of helping the muscle tissue heal and strengthen - very important to do as much swimming as possible during the physio period after the bones have healed - otherwise you’ll have trouble with arthritis later in life around the affected area.

    2) Snorkeling is great fun, but be careful of getting ear infection if you stay in the water too long - you should always clean out you ears with cotton buds (carefully of course) after a snorkeling session.

  5. Hey there, Alison,
If you’re reading Murakami-san at the moment then make sure you catch the film version of his “Tony Takitani” short by Jun Ichikawa - it’s a beautiful thing. Also good to hear the album is progressing but do it at your own pace - don’t let anybody or anything convince you otherwise. It’s done when it’s done.
Have a great holiday - post an underwater pic on the blog!

  6. Loving Empire of the Sun too!!

I read most of the “Wind up Bird Chronicle” but then my holiday was over & I didn’t make the time to finish it. Truly bizarre, it gave me mental dreams. I will have to root it out again now you have reminded me.

Hope you have a great holiday, god I love holidays! Just back from Amsterdam, brilliant city.

Obviously cannot wait for more album news!!!

  7. Alison, thanks for taking the time out to let all of us know what’ve you been up to and how progress is moving along. I hope your vacation in Greece is enjoyable, and I certainly hope you’re keeping a lot of sunblock lotion around, I hate to see your fair skin burned from all the swimming! Hey, at least we know how you stay so fit now….

and turquoise is a great color, I imagine it would play a bit off those blue eyes of yours and really make them pop.

And it must be said once more, you’re beautiful. The man/woman/object/cat that gets to wake up next to you is one lucky son of a….. you don’t even need the help of studio lighting, an amazing photographer, tons of makeup OR Photoshop to look gorgeous. In fact, I like the way you look in that photo better than in the shots from Vogue.

Enough swooning from me, I can’t wait to we get to hear some snippets of what you and Will and co. have been working on!

Have a wonderful time in Greece, enjoy the break away :)

  12. I can only endorse the ‘Tony Takitani’ film recommendation - so still and moving, if that makes any sense. The Empire of the Sun video was partly shot at Xilitla gardens in Mexico, created by an English eccentric called Edward James from an old Sussex family! It’s a great song shot in an amazing location. Enjoy the clouds and the wind through the trees.

  13. Hello Alison. Probably too late for a travel tip,but one of my favourite places in Greece is the tiny Cycladean island of Amorgos. The film the Big Blue was filmed there. Wonderful snorkelling , magickal landscape , and Time trying its utmost to stand still, with an ice cold retsina in one hand and some Cretan bud in the other! Wishing you a very jolly hol. Agape x

  16. It was quite strange to read your occupations… I had the same some weeks ago.
I discovered Murakamis book “Ecstasy”: it was a very intense and strong readings experience. It was like the beauty of his words was keeping the ugliness of human behaviour, the light kept the darkness. I hope you managed to extract yourself from the murakami’s world. I needed time…
I use to listen to Empire of the suns song while I was walking at the beginning of summer. That song made me think to your last album: it’s really summers song for me…
Thank you to allow us to live that exstatic music experience…

  22. OMG. I am also enduring the pain of an injured left foot. I injured it while working out and it’s really limiting all the stuff I gotta do every day… I think I gotta make the time to schedule a visit to the doc.

    ANYWAY,

Glad to hear the songwriting is going well. Really excited about the new material. Gosh, it seems like the Seventh Tree “era” just came and went.

I’ve been also CRAVING getting inside the water and swimming! I think I might do that today. Well, enjoy your holiday and thanks for keeping us current on your life, Alison ;D

  29. Hey Alison, I ditto the comment above (apart from the bit about being from Argentina, although that sounds like it would be nice!). Great that you have started a blog to follow - always great to get to see a part of someones journey.

I am an assemblage and installation artist and find your music and videos really inspiring so thanks! I’m just about to start work on a sculptural piece that made me think of you actually (which is why I ended up on your website today) - its a five foot gold birdcage that will be fitted out with a french chandelier and a swing made of pearls.

  31. Hi Alison! :-)
I actually know Luke Steele, the singer from Empire Of The Sun. He comes from my home town and is an incredibly talented guy! If I see him sometime soon (not easy now that he is a ‘big pop star’ hehe) I will tell him you like his music.

Anywaaay…I am still hanging out, with everyone else, for the new music. I hope your foot is better…and i hope that after 75 years you English are happy that you have finally beaten us Aussies in an Ashes test at Lords! :( This means that it is obligatory that you tour Australia with your own shows when the new album is released! We can give you your first number one hit, just like we did for Maddona and ABBA!

    Stay happy!
    Lotsa Love,

    N.

P.S. I would LOVE to be your manager…I have experience and created a top ten hit in the early 80’s here in Oz! Just a thought…hehe

I’ve only ever read Haruki Murakami’s Kafka On The Shore… lovely book; rivaling for my affections only with Anais Nin’s Delta Of Venus… God, I love that woman… and I’m talking about you, too!!! I hope your foot heals okay; if I had to go a DAY without my heels, I’d… you don’t even want to know, hell, I don’t even wanna say it cause blood might ruin my monitor at the moment I have the aneurism. Anyways; have a great holiday and think of me, I’m getting an HIV test done soon… really nervous…

  41. My sweet Alison,
Words cannot express how relieved your post and pic were to me. In your previous post I could sense your aura was seriously misaligned. I knew I had to adjust your aura and element. I was going to post how to balance your stones, but found it much easier for me to do it telepathically. I practiced astrology, yoga, levitation, transcendental meditation, astral travel, telekinesis, cabalism, prayer. I called on the spirits and waited and chanted and finally felt low-level energy swept through me. I sent this energy to you telepathically. Your element is WATER, you are a Sister of Mother Nature and Her Waters. That is where you will find most of your inspirations, near water. Your aura is now back to blue/white. While in a state of deep astral meditation, I was healing and protecting your spirit from reverse electromagnetic damage. Other galactic nebuli and meteor dust were swirling in their own wrong directions. When your body is in the Mediterranean Sea, think of quantum physics and how the dolphins speak. I have swam with the great sea turtles and by being with them I understand the element that time itself slows down underwater, everything is in slow motion. While you are snorkeling, when you see a beautiful object go down to it safely and with a swim buddy, and collect it and keep it. Take a photograph of the object and post it here at your blog. Alison, you will love the Mediterranean, if time allows, you should visit Capri, Galli Islands, Odyssean Siren Islands and drink their local red wine the kind with the strange sludge at the bottom of the bottle. The Amalfi Coast will take your breath away and you’ll wonder can something this beautiful be real. Also you may enjoy a place called, Positano. Most of all, have a memorable holiday! Don’t forget to use your socio-behavioral studies…My little Stargazer, I live to love you more each day. Love ALL Ways, Mrs. Banana Fairy

  44. Perhaps I’m a bit weird by saying this, but I read “Der Vorleser” (The Reader) in my German class this past December and immediately thought of Alison Goldfrapp in the role of Hannah Schmitz - without any knowledge that a movie adaptation was being made starring Kate Winslet when it was given to my class by our teacher. As much as I find Miss Winslet to be attractive I think that Alison would’ve been a better part for the role, going from her appearances in her music videos and the stern yet sensual body language she uses. Anyone who has read the book might see where I’m coming from with this comparison.

Alison, have you ever considered acting in addition to singing? If you have, then please excuse my ignorance - as always continue to make great music! ;) Danke Schoen meine Lieblings Saengerin ~ ! ;)

  53. Alison, I wrote you lyrics to a song. It’s about men using women and then moving on - thinking they’ll be forever broken.

I hope you and Will can use it - give it a wicked tune. I’ve intended it to be an UP piece and think it can be a lot of fun when you both work it.

I’ll leave the title up to you.

Opens up all sorts of video images to do with somevery sexy heels crushing some nasty dudes. LOL

    Here goes …

It’s not the way u do it
    Cause u’ve lost it
    Along the way

How can it be so simply put
Words broke me and I am apart
    Patches from all things past
    Make one incomplete -
    Broken but stronger

    Chorus:
    Now I’m not blaming u
I’ll just get some new shoes
    To get back on track
Get back, get back on, back on, get, get on
    La la la

    As simple as that?
    Actually, easier so
Use the ego for your next flavour
    You exasperated my world
    My life is simpler now
    With multiple new shoes

    Chorus:
    Now I’m not blaming u
I’ll just get some new shoes
    To get back on track
Get back, get back on, back on, get, get, on it
    La la la

    Men like multiples
    And I put on a
    Good show
    Makes me feel great
    Come see what’s
    No longer your flavour

    Chorus:
    Now I’m not blaming u
I’ll just get some new shoes
    To get back on track
Get back, get back on, back on, get on
    La la la
