Goldfrapp - Blog

hellolovelies

Hi everyone !

i shall start with ‘thank you Micheal for the music’ !

hope all is good with you and you’re coping with or  loving the hot weather. I’m presently in my attic in london. Its a bloody furnace in here and my beloved cat keeps walking across the keyboard of my laptop !

well what’s been happening? i didn’t go to glasto but had some friends who did. They said Neil young was amazing and bruce springstein was really boring.  The rest of the people i knew that went still havent been in touch so i hope they are still on the planet and alright ?!

i’ve broken my foot , yeh really, walking of all things, trying to keep fit is dangerous!  i have to wear what looks like a ski boot or some kind of fancy foot wear from starwars for six weeks.  It’s the left foot so i have rented an automatic car which means i can still get around when in the west cuntry up at the studio.

we are beavering away writing  and its really coming along now!  There are days when it can feel a struggle but that’s just normal i suppose.  We just have to ride them out knowing that something will click again soon! its like magic and i love it!  i don’t want to say too much because it’s a process that i find hard to describe and i dont want to jinx it in these earlyish days.  i just wanted you to know that we are having fun and its going well.

I’m waiting for some headphones to turn up cos i left the others at the studio.  i’m going to record some  vocals here in my little attic that’s now got a gorgeous breeze blowing through it!  its a really beautiful evening now mmm think i might have to go down stairs and crack open that ice cold bottle i’ve got in the fridge ?

have a great weekendxxxxxxxA

  1. Ooh sorry about your broken bones! I recently broke my arm and it hurts like heck so I can somewhat sympathize with you. Can’t wait to hear the new album, the excitement is riding off of me in waves and simply reading this has me bouncing in my seat! LOL and the best of luck to you, and I would say break a leg, but then again, you’re already pretty close!

    Love, Jane

  3. So sorry to hear about your foot, Alison. Get well soon. 6 weeks will be up before you know it.

Good luck in the writing. I feel it’s safe to assume that it will be another departure from your previous album and a new aspect of your talents.

I loved your “bacofoil” by the way. Don’t pretend you didn’t know it was great.

    Love.

  4. Hey Alison, Will and crew!!! :-)

Thanks for the update Alison. Bad luck with the ankle: I myself have also been trying to fit in some exercise between the piano and the computer but I now have another excuse not to bother…..TOO DANGEROUS LOL!! But hey, look on the bright side: you now have more time for writing hehehe! (we can’t wait for the new music!!!)
I saw Neil Young back in the eighties and again recently and he is still fantastic live!!! Good to hear that he is sill rockin’!
    Keep well, lotsa love,

But it may be best not to go fell-walking in stilletos next time!

ooh, would love to hear the new vocals recorded in your attic.. feel free to e-mail me them.
Thanks for keeping us all up-to-date, and get well soon.

  9. Look on the 6 weeks as a positive - more time you can concentrate on giving yourself lots of space for the music. If anybody tries to drag you away then just smile sweetly, decline and blame the foot. Nobody could mind. Don’t let it put you off walking though - it’s a great way to centre yourself and get some focus back.

All the best to you & Will (& your mewing keyboard cosy, of course!)

  13. Shame about your foot Miss Goldfrapp. Just remember, the energy that would have been diverted to your foot can now used elsewhere, so every cloud and silver linings etc. I trust it will heal soon.

Pleased the writing is coming along nicely, I’d love to know what you have in store for us all, something completely different again I hope. I’m thinking medieval, court jesters, the dark ages, soil and mist, dark forests, bleak desolation, dark medieval times …

  14. Aw poor footsie. But no way can your story of how you buggered it be better than my story of sitting cross legged on my foot, standing up and taking a step without realising my foot had gone lead, then twisting it right under itself, collapsing in my hallway and then crying and laughing at the same time. 6 hours later, I then went to A&E. Good times!

Hope it heals up quickly for you. And you can always jazz up the moonboot with glitter and stuff.

  16. Here’s hoping you get better. Make the best of it and take the time to heal. Maybe it was fate so as to focus on the new work. Can’t wait to hear it - hope it is unique like all the previous releases. The past stuff will always be fresh and never sound old - that’s what makes classics.

I turned several people on to you guys here in the US. Once they hear it they’re relieved and thrilled. Here in the US radio is all Hip hop and Rap (so sick of that). People are looking for something refreshing.

Since your tucked in the attic working I been taking the time to listen to - now for something totally different - Metronomy, Roisin Murphy and the new Pet Shop Boys album. They’re trying new stuff, have a unique sound and are so refreshing. You Brits are so creative and talented keep up the good work. Most of all though hope you get better.

  22. Glastonbury was top quality this year. The weather helped but for some reason there just seemed to be a great feel about the place (even better than normal) and a lot of bands were on good form. “Neil Young was amazing but Bruce Springsteen was really boring” - yep, that’s pretty accurate. Hope we’ll see you there again next year. Liked the blue wellies last time!

  40. Fun game to play with errant kitties who insist on walking on keyboards:

    1. Let the kitty “write” what (s)he [I know yours is a boy but mine is a grrl so we must be inclusive] wants to.
    2. If kitty has not used the space bar, go back and insert spaces. Let your intuition guide you.
    3. Use spell check.
    4. Pick the first option that spell check gives you.

    Et voilà! Kitty poetry.

I’m sorry you are in a bit of pain. It made me think of all the good things you have brought forwaarad in my life. I’ve heard of great artists suffering for their art, but a busted foot is just a drag. I’d rather hear how good things are getting on–which, with a tip of my hat, you gave a wonderful aspect of your character. Thank you for the beautiful cover of “seventh tree’, the video, and the post cards, which I wouldn’t dare defame.

Have been a huuuuge fan for years now, your music is like a precious little gem that makes everything else seem really average and bland in comparrison. Anyway, enough gushing… can’t wait to see you live again, saw you in Cambridge and freaked my friend out knowing all the words - even to clowns! - even if we were in the worst seats, last row, balcony… when Train started I went mad! Love to you fabulous things! xxxxx

Nasty business with the foot/ankle/leg, never mind, I’m sure you’ll be in your stilettos in no time. Glad to hear that you and William San are working on the new album, I can’t wait! Mind you, hope you didn’t give all of your best ideas to Christina Aguilera, you have to keep those for you!

Actually, was that even true? Can’t believe a thing you here these days, but I blame the credit crunch and pig flu. Oh, and speaking of pigs, I’d like to hear the story of the time you were chased by a pig.

  62. Just last night, I was marveling over your music once again. I was coming home from work after an exhaustive eleven-hour shift, and was able to replace the mundane noise in my head with a couple of your beautiful, foot-tapping tunes. Two and a half years ago, I stumbled across Black Cherry and have been listening to your albums incessantly ever since. I am in Toronto, working on a writing project of my own. My apartment is also a furnace at this time of year, so I can certainly relate. I missed your performance here earlier this year but hope I can catch it the next time you’re in TO. Thanks for all the wonderful music. You’re an inspiration. And so sorry to hear about the foot. I wish you a speedy recovery. All my best.

  68. Hi Alison!
Your blog is the best. It’s updated more often than I am even online. I love the pictures they’re the best! Post more!
I’m sorry to hear about your foot. That’s really bad luck that you broke it while walking. How did it happen - did your shoe give way or was it an uneven bit of pavement? If it was an uneven bit of pavement you could try and claim some compensation or something lol. Again sorry to hear :(
I’ve not been to Glastonbury ever. I don’t go to concerts often either even although I love music, although I’m going to make sure I do more. But I don’t think I’d ever want to go to Glastonbury because it’s too busy, muddy etc. I know I must be the only person in Britain who thinks this because everyone else raves about it. I would like it if it weren’t so packed and outdoorsy. I went camping once &I didn’t like it and I think Glastonbury would be like that. I like caravanning but that’s as far as I can manage(!) Oh well lol.
Bye Alison! &keep posting I lovee your new blog and you’re the best.

not to mess about sorry about the cat and I hope your foot is soon better too
I have one of those permanently, nuisance it gives out rolling on rock,
and the music is still good. Agonizing, alike writing, so get inspiration … Mike
PS I cannot type on keyboards even without cat in the middle . love
slippage at present on Wind Media off your disk, never understood this … how are musicians supposed to survive with millions of millions of copies rolling about computers ? I gave up and just put my book SSSSS on the Adobe com so at least people can read and bore while listening to Bruce Neil Tom Madness Judy and whomever is blasted into The Space next year as long as it does not flood Cheltenham of course ! best to both composers and the crew trying to make sense of the offbeat lyric

  71. Hey, Alison: I just discovered your blog to learn two important things:
    1) You broke your foot: My best wishes for a quick and thorough recovery;
    2) YOU GUYS ARE ACTIVE AND WORKING!!!!
I must admit that I just recently became a fan of yours but it feels as if this is been a lifelong affaire with your music. Just keep writing working and creating. I’ll be ready to enjoy.
And now that I know about your blog and stuff, I’ll be anxiously awaiting for your next concert anywhere near Miami…. or somewhere I can travel to.
    Best wishes,

  75. i was at my sons graduation yesterday when it was announced you could’nt receive your honorary degree due to your foot injury. sheila hancock managed to stand for almost 2 hours with an injury during the presentations and she’s old enough to be your grandmother. good to see fame has’nt gone to your head. reading all your fawning comments i expect this wont get posted. if it does i don’t expect a reply as you probably have an incoming hand injury or you could get sheila hancock to do it for you.

  76. Baz ,
1.its a persons health - picking up a piece of paper that in real life has as much use for her as toilet paper is not worth risking anything for . Ive had my leg in plaster twice - its not easy to move around and you feel ill at ease when some old coffin dodger like yourself walking around not looking where they were going will take you out .
2.as far as Sheila Hancock attending , so what ? I`ll make a Purple Heart chocolate medal for her to wear
    3. she wasnt making a personal appearance just for you , it was mainly for a University to rub its ego/bloated sense of importance

I dont expect a reply from you Baz as I expect you are to busy whinging about TV programmes , kids , mobile phones , Sky , newspapers , basically everything that requires a whine unsubstantiated by facts or common sense/logic and polishing your sons degree , still as there no jobs for him to go to , he could always write the reply for you .
