it’s been a crazy couple of weeks, non-stop since i got back from my brief jaunt in italy.  we shot the video for ‘rocket’ which will be with you soon.  it was a blast!  really hope you like it.

so, as you know, ‘rocket’ was out and about before it should have been and i just want to say that, of course we knew straight away that some silly bugger had stuck it up on the net, but what can you do?!!

obviously this wasn’t the plan and i’m sorry some of you on the message board were upset by it.  i just want you to know that it wasn’t our intention and was completely beyond our control.  unfortunately this seems to happen all the time these days.

anyway, i’m really so pleased that you’re liking the track.

we have just about finished the album, a little a bit of mixing still to do in the first week of Jan, but that’s it.   here’s a photo taken on my way to the studio which was close to the new forest.  it feels good to have made an album as well as making a film soundtrack this year.  if all goes to plan the album will be out in march.  this album is very different from the last, but i hope you enjoy it just as much for different reasons.   i’m really looking forward to playing the new songs live as a lot of them are so up and  jubilant.  even the revenge songs are kind of joyous!   its gonna be a blast!

we are still contemplating the new goldfrapp website and what it should contain.  i was told by a duo who make websites that doing band websites are completly pointless these days.  apparently no one visits them regularly because you can get so much info from so many other places?  what do you reckon?

i’m often asked about the lyrics  in ‘utopia’,  in particular what i mean by ‘facist baby’.  so i thought i’d try to explain it briefly, although it’s hard to be totally clear. the song Utopia is a sci-fi story.   i was thinking about ideas of perfection,  to design perfection, not allow imperfections and that being possibly a facist concept ? eternal life, designer babies and all that.   i was inspired by sci-fi films like bladerunner, thx-1138 and gattica.  also, i had been reading several books about utopian ideals.  the faber book of utopias edited by john carey is a good one for a nugget sized read on the subject.

anyway,  hope you’re all ok.  its been hell traveling around, some of my friends are still stuck in the chaos!   hope you all have safe and happy holidays and a fantastic new year!

my god its a crazy fast world! news gets out on the net soooo fast. we are still  here in the west country   mixing the album but in case you havent seen stuff on the web today the album  now has a title ‘Head First’ and comes out in march, the single titled ‘rocket’ is also out around the same time.

if anyone is still interested or still looking here,  i’m really sorry for my inconsistent blog writing, it must be really irritating ?! i’m undoubtedly crap at doing this on a regular basis!

so…. we have been back in the studio writing the album after finishing the score for the film ‘nowhere boy’.  its all been going great,  Will and i will be probably be finished  soon after christmas.  we’re doing a photo shoot for the album art work this week which is exciting, so i’ve been busy preparing for that.  also looking at who might direct the video for the first single.  there will be a bit of redesign for the website too, soon i hope.

we have packed up the studio in london and go back to looking at big skies and rooks fighting the wind in the west country for the remainder of the work on the album.

in amongst all of this i managed to catch the michael clark company at the barbican.  it was bloody marvelous.  a real feast for the ears and eyes!  also went to a party last night and danced my socks off, which was a great stress buster.

the beloved cat is recovering from a cat attack!  it looks like he put up a good fight but was bitten bad.  after a couple of trips to the vet, he’s now much better and purring away by the fire.

Davide and his lovely wife came over to stay from Denmark.  it was great to catch up with him and we talked about how exciting it’ll be to play again next year.

hows it goin ? we have finally emerged from an intense period of work and i’m pleased i can now tell you about it (as it is official).  we have written the score for a film called “Nowhere boy”.  it’s about John Lennon as a boy and stars Aaron Johnson, Kristen Scott-Thomas and Anne Marie Duff.  it’s Sam Taylor-Wood’s first feature film and it’s truly amazing that they gave us the oppotunity to do this. we are all really excited about going to abbey road  studios soon to record  the strings with the full orchestra.  the film is closing the london film festival and is premiered on 29th october at odeon leicester square.  now our work on the film is almost finished, we will carry on writing the  Goldfrapp album.

what a beautiful day it was today,  i hope there’s more of that gorgeous autumnal sunshine over the weekend.

anyway, its the end of the rainy saturday and i’m lying in bed.  i don’t have much to report really.  it’s been another week of writing in london and all is good.  so just a quick note to say ‘hi’ before i start getting ready to go out for drinks with friends.

im finally out of the robot leg, maybe i could hire it out or something?  fancy dress? could be quite fashionable if worn at the discoteque?. went to the premier of inglorious bastards.  tarantino introduced the film by screaming down the microphone like a crazy madman which was quite funny and probably gave us an insight to what being directed by him is like?  it started off well i thought and it looked great.  very witty in places, good acting and great music.  then i started getting bored, but im not sure why? mabe because typically of tarantino there was an abundance of comedic gratuitous violence.  it was all going nowhere and left  me feeling depressed.  ultimately the whole thing seemed completly pointless? anyway i was glad i went and limped to a taxi in my new shoes, my left foot looking like a bacon bun.

i arrived back last night from a week in bath,  missed out a day of swimming because a child puked in the pool and they spent 24hrs decontaminating the water.  we had a productive week and i think its safe to say this album is gonna be a lot more up than the last, reckon its gonna be really fun to play this one live.  dont get me wrong i loved playing the last one too, but this will be a different kind of fun.  i cant wait !

been off the radar a bit, we’ve been in london writing.  we’re  looking for a new manager, nursing broken foots (no wearing of morter boards) meetings, meetings and more meetings.  all good stuff though, all moving forwards towards creating the album and our future etcetcetc !

looking forward to putting on my robot boot and hobbling to the jeff koons exhibtion at the serpentine this weekend.   Had a lovely dinner with friends last night and ordering some aqua shoes and some snorkelling gear  today for my holiday in the greek islands in august.  oh my god i cant wait….getting in that delicious heavenly sea! yeeha!

been listening to that Empire of the Sun song ‘we are the people’ i love it and the video! and i’ve been reading various Murakami books, so into him at the moment.

i bought some shiny turquoise Pierre Hardy shoes from Paris to wear when my foot is better.  they are such a yummy color, the same colour i imagine the sea in Greece will be !

we are in the west country next week which is great.  it seems we get into a groove a bit more up there with no meetings and other stuff to fill up our brains.  i go swimming pretty much everyday too, love it, love it, love it! (thank god i’m allowed to do that with my foot), sitting in feilds gazing at the wind blowing in the trees lying on my back watching the clouds before going to the studio.  The photo is of Davide and i in my caravan at the Coachella festival in California last year.
